It seems to be a common question...why ship without instructions? If you’re not going to ship with instructions, why are they not provided on the site?

For others who are fretting this install...I installed mine yesterday without using a probe for the positive input (red wire to blue (fresh tank)). This is how it is installed in the video above, but not like a number of other videos or the instructions suggest. I installed the ground wire on a probe a few inches from the bottom of the tank, and located it below the horizontal height of the yellow probe (since I had seen some reference to this as possibly being necessary, but am not sure if it really is). I installed the red plastic wiring unit slightly above the yellow wire horizontally, and the ground probe was physically near it, but located below the red plastic unit. I kept all probes 10+ inches apart (as mentioned on some videos, but not the instructions), and it worked like a charm....but it's not actually all that easy to get these wires 10 inches apart All three lights light up when the tank is full, and 2 when ~1/2 full. I never had the water below the ground probe level, so I am not sure what happens if the ground probe isn't submerged at all...I'm kinda curious if that really requires a probe at all...I may test that. I'm also not sure if it would work as intended if I just disconnect the yellow bottom probe or if it means just that bottom light wouldn't work but the rest would...I may test that next, just because I'm pretty low on probes and need to wire a grey tank...I would like to wire it at 2/3 using the 2/3 probe, just so I know when to dump, but I am not sure how dependent the 2/3 probe is on the 1/3 probe being installed and submerged...I may have to just use the 1/3 and know that the light indicator means 2/3 on that tank.

Thanks for writing these comments!! So many of us are teaching ourselves how to complete these projects only using youtube and any instructions we get from the product/company. It is SO confusing (and time consuming to figure out) when things like having the red/power wire hooked up to a tank probe are shown on the instruction paper (without a reason why) but nothing is shown in videos like these. Also you're so right about the packet of 6 probes... it's great if they want to give that many, but they should at least mention somewhere that 1-2 are extras... So... you didn't connect the red wire to a probe, you just connected it straight to the blue (fresh water) wire? Also, for the white ground wire, I am a little confused about the whole set-up. So there needs to be a probe on both the fresh and grey water tanks as close to the bottom as possible. From these probes, am I correct to say that the wires need to be connected to each other and then connected to the white wire coming out of the panel? In a diagram I found, it also shows that white wiring system going to the battery bank and then off to the side. Is this a separate ground wire to the vehicle frame, or is the diagram just showing that the batteries need a general ground that we would already have (in which case, we wouldn't need to add additional wiring)?

Tonight I tested the system on a second tank using just a ground probe and the only remaining probe I had (They are needed in batches of 4, but are sold in batches of 6!?). Anyway, I could connect any one of the 3 level indicator wires to the one non-ground probe, and get the appropriate reading...all lights including the appropriate one, and the ones below it, lit up on the meter when any given wire was attached to my one probe on this tank and it was submerged. SO, you don't really have to have all the probes working. I tested my other tank by disconnecting the ground probe on the freshwater tank and can confirm that you DO need the ground probe connected. I still haven't tested what happens when the ground probe isn't submerged at all, but things work basically as expected when the ground probe is submerged, and I recommend putting it as low as is reasonable on the tank. On the second tank (with only 2 probes, one ground and one level probe), I noticed that I don't get an Empty reading when the second probe isn't submerged...this happens regardless of which level indicator is attached. I do recall seeing that reading on the 4 probe tank previously (before I totally filled it up), so I'm not sure why it's different on the 2 probe tank...but I have read online that the readings can be a little funky, as the system somehow retains a "memory" of the prior reading, and the current reading is "relative" to that reading somehow...My guess is that the overall resistance is being changed based on which probe is connected, and that the "relative" feature is what enables this to work across lots of different sized tanks. If so, the precise order in which I tested the 2 probe tank might be what's throwing off the ability to get an Empty reading right now...but I'm not really gonna fool with it much more...I'll get two more probes somewhere and make the grey tank fully functional, but for now I just have it working well with one probe that lets me know when it's basically full and ready to dump. Pro tip...didn't realize my tank wasn't fully level under the van, and runs downhill...wish I had installed the one level probe I have on the grey tank a little lower, since the location I installed on the rear of the tank reads 2/3 full when it's really full up front! oops!

Hi Brian, Can you help me to figure out where I should install RV monitor panel on 1985 Winnibago Chieftain 22 ft? Fresh water tank is located undeer the closet which is on the left side. I noticed the sensors are attached to the tank and five wires go up ro the ceiling. I have no way to find out where they are wired to in the RV. There is monitor panel in owner's manual. Electrical diagram tgat I found online is for 1990 Winnibago. If you can send me any information about how to find final location of wires for monitor panel I will be so grateful to you. I bought this motor home two months ago and it has been a lit if challenge to fix it. Thanks

My tank doesn't have an access panel. How would I attach the probes? Or is there a good way to install a panel?

Are you referring to the wire harness? www.recpro.com/rv-replacement-tank-wire-harness-for-sensor-probes/

Ok, I'm only using the fresh water tank. On the monitor, orange to positive, purple to negative, blue to red on wiring harness and white to white. Pump works (no light on the switch) but no lights on the meter for water level. Its over half full. Any ideas?
