    Great review. I was debating on getting a traditional pressure gauge or a sonar one. Looks like the convenience of the sonar is really nice. Thank you for a solid comparison.

    this is a great video, and really answers the questions I had, there doesn't seem to be much from mopeka and the old ones are still for sale everywhere. I'm guessing they want to sell through the old stock but based on your video it seems like the new one is definitely worth buying to future proof yourself. doesn't seem worth it to save the money. thank you!

    I returned the first PRO after getting ZERO response from the manufacturer's support desk. They don't care about their customers. Got another and found I have to delete and re-sync (enroll) regularly as they will stay at 100 percent full. Good thing Amazon is easy when it comes to returning stuff. I am living at 9000 feet in the Rockies and the battery shows 50 percent after two weeks of use in temperatures as low as zero Fahrenheit.

    Will it work with a tank in a fixed horizontal position?

    Does the Pro sensor have a USB plug to connect via the power bank or throw other power supplies? How long does his battery live? I want to install the sensor on my car's propane tank 70 liters. It is cylindrical and located horizontally. Will this pro version sensor work? Thank you.

    the old version sucks ... I went through 4 of them , they all stopped working after few weeks, glad to see a new version , they probably know the old one has issues

    Me too. I found the tank had to be in perfect shape and even then, it was a 50/50 shot if it would work or not. Dielectric grease, repositioning, spacers, etc. made no difference.

    Do you know if this would work on a curved surface? My Travato has a built in tank mounted horizontally so the bottom is the side on a normal tank.

    Has anyone ever had there sensor fall off the bottom of their tank on the hwy? Wondering if some tape on it would help hold?

    Do you have to use that grease every time you put the sensor back onto the tank after refill? Also, If I only have one of them can I move it to my second tank when the first tank is empty or is it calibrated for use on only one tank

    I have the second generation Mopeka system with a pair of 40 lb tanks. It is a great system. My batteries lasted one year. Love Your RV did a review on this system and he had an issue with condensation on the tank sensor board that resulted in the shorting of the board and depletion of the battery in about a day. Did they waterproof the board in this version? Again thanks for the video, I didn’t know there was a newer version.

    I have been using the Mopeka System since generation one for 5yrs, and I have not had a problem with condensation. I live in the upper mid-west, and it does get into the high 80s in the summertime with 100% humidity. So it can get "Florida-Hot" here - but for fewer months of the year. Could the issue perhaps not be condensation, but simply the sensors getting wet. In an RV, the storage compartment for the LP tanks is open to the bottom. This is required so a propane leak will fall to the ground and dissipate, as propane is heavier than air. Is it possible that the sensors could become wet from water spray being kicked up into the underside of the RV when driving on wet pavement during a storm? That might saturate the sensors with buckets of water spray. And since the sensors are a clamshell type case with the seam on the bottom side (when installed), it makes sense that water could get in there. In my RV, I installed baffles under the sensors to protect them from becoming wet due to water spray. The baffles still allow the bottom of the LP compartment to be open for evacuating propane, as it does not seal off the compartment - only around the sensors. As far as I can tell, the board has not been waterproofed in the new version. However, there are aftermarket spray and paint on conformal coatings that can be applied to circuit boards if you live in an area where condensation is a problem. GC Electronics is one manufacturer of this product. Conformal coatings are often used on marine stereos to waterproof the circuit boards.

    @@RVProject thank you for the reply. The other guy lives in BC where it is very wet. I hadn’t thought about adding some water protection under the propane tanks. I’ll do that. I did add conformal coating to one of my sensors. Thanks for the update. I continue to adhere to your method of leveling my fifth wheel and haven’t had any issues since. So again a BIG THANK YOU!

    Do you need these if have gas stop as they have a gauge?

  • @RVProject

    @RVProject

    Depends on the accuracy and convenience you want. The Gas Stop works by pressure, while these work by sending an ultrasonic signal through the bottom of the tank. The Mopeka sensors can be read by either a dedicated LED display (optional purchase) or an app on your phone via bluttooth.

    That is why I put a trap in the lower part of the propane tank holder so if it fell off, it would not go bouncing down the road.
