You can use the rear brake for tightening the sprocket I just did it today, its a good idea to use a torque wrench to get it to proper spec. and for the riveting part, get a micrometer it takes a lot of the guess work out

Damn good job guys!! I'm a DIY, on my first bike I bought new in 2006 SV650. I'm really excited about learning how to work on this bike. I'm going in stages as per required maintenance. But my last chain replacement I only temp clipped it, and drove it to a shop to rivet on permanently. I just got a complete Vortex kit and I will be changing entire kit, I may still have a tech finalize the rivets...

I rivetted while it was on the rear sprocket so it's more level. If you rivet not break while its hanging at the bottom you risk flaring it angled so the area isn't circular which is bad.

I do not feel it requires a tremendoous amount of hand strength to do this. Remember if you hold the handle of the chain tool and the wrench at the end it will increase the leverage maming it easier.

Best practice is to set the axle somewhere in the middle of the available range of adjustment. This will leave you enough room to adjust once the chain stretches a bit etc... The only time you would want to set the axle somewhere other than the middle is when you need to adjust the length of the wheelbase to influence the handling of the bike. - Van

I went ahead and ordered one. but, the one i received had a recall on it. They were not heat treated properly. i used it, got the chain on right then it broke. RK America, paid for shipping to get the tool back to them, and when they got the new batch of tools that were heat treated properly they shipped me a new one. I bought the tool off ebay, but RK America took care of it with the recall. Very happy with RK, would recommend this tool because it makes the job very easy and the customer service is very good also.
