Thanks for the video! This is the exact mailbox I ordered to replace our old non-locking box. This shows me exactly what I'm going to have to do. Great video! I was wondering, what ratchet and size did you use to screw in the bolts? I have yet to own a ratchet set and need advice as to what to buy for my home/car/truck maintenance. Thanks!

Sorry, but I don't remember what size rachet and bolts I used. I used lag bolts for sure though.

What is the thickness of the braces piece of wood used? And dimensions? Thanks

Wow... wood? I thought they would sell a mounting plate or kit of some sort, but wood? I was hoping I wouldn't have to resort to that either. Thanks for the video!

Does this mailbox come with a post?

Should a put some barrier or just spacers between the 31" 2x6's so they dont rot as fast

If you're not using pressure treated, yes you might want to paint them at a minimum, which is what I ended up doing. Thanks for the comment!

This is great, but I don't have all of the wood working tools. Can I just attach it onto the existing post? We're also in lock down, so I can't exactly get to a home depot!

Thanks for the comment. Absolutely, you can attach it to the existing post as long as its secure. We have a stay at home order as well, but Home Depot is actually open and we've gone a few times safely with masks. Stay safe!

A PO BOX is the ultimate solution but that costs money and gas. I'd use this for unimportant mail though.

Good video! Nice to see that you can put an outgoing good size parcel in the box. But how do you get the mail carrier access? ... Does she get her own key?

No. The USPS will not access the box through the key. Only through the top flap to deposit mail. If you want to leave mail in the top section you can but not parcels.

I am waiting to hear from the post office. But my if is concerned ht attaching it lie you did will make it too tall to fit Post Office specs. Any issues?

Does the mailbox have to sit on top of the wooden base? Is there enough room under the box to place the base inside of the mailbox bottom. Just like most standard non-locking mailboxes.

MailBoss designed this particular box so that the mounting hardware isn't accessible when the mailbox is locked... So, unlike a traditional mailbox there is no "skirt" that gets screwed to a plank around the perimeter - the base of the mailbox is flat with pre-drilled holes in the base where you install the mounting screws from the inside. This may vary by mailbox brand, but is pretty common for "secure" mailboxes like the MailBoss in this video since it makes the box harder to steal.

What kind of screw did u use to screw the box to post?

I used security lag bolts that came with the mailbox.

So how does the postal carrier pick up outgoing mail when you put up the flag to indicate there's mail to be picked up?

There is a metal clip inside the door you place you're mail.

How does RTS work? I assume you would just have to take it personally to the post office/Dropbox?

You can leave it in the top drop down as it has a small clip inside to hold envelopes and it has the red flag you can raise up to indicate outgoing mail. However I would absolutely never use this today since people will see that as a sign there's something in there to steal. I personally hand everything to the postal worker myself if I see them in my neighborhood or deliver to post office or drop off postal bin in the neighborhood.

@@BooyaJoe Another thing, I've never understood mailboxes out in public like that, I use to live in a residence that had mailboxes out in the public sidewalk just out in the open for anyone to steal mail. Yikes, never again, I either have my mailbox on my property and/or if it is on the sidewalk than it will be locked up just like yours. Also, did you inform your other two neighbors to install one as well?

Yeah. Everyone was experiencing thefts in the neighborhood and after we installed..everyone else started installing. :-)

These exact mailboxes SUCK...a screwdriver bends the hinge and they pop RIGHT open leaving you a Tangled mess and no mail ...they just EVERY ONE of these on our street....exact crappy box

so is the mail thief serving time?

Sadly no
