I would suggest you put numbers on the other side as well so it's visible to the postman as he approaches your box. Very nice design.

Looks great, two thoughts. 1. Would it have made sense to pour the concrete around the post and avoid having to use anchors? 2. When using rebar, it’s best to try and get it in the center of the pour. It’s a good idea to put something under it to hold it up off the bottom. 🙂

I would argue that if it was hit by a vehicle it would snap the wood and he would be screwed but the way it is it would just tear out of the brackets most likely and he could easily rebuild it if needed. I would do it his way to be honest. Some chicken wire would have been better then a single piece of rebar but its better then nothing I suppose. I also would have went bigger and deeper with the footing as if its hit the way it is it will probably just fall over with the concrete attached. I deep 3 foot hole pier with some rebar in it coming up to the base with chicken wire would have been best. If it is hit and what I said above happens then try the pier method on the rebuild.
wow looks amazing
Really nice Job!! There is so much you could do with that design...like putting a wood burning design on the bottom or putting an oval metal inlay there...the list is endless. Thanks for the idea!! (It looks great just the way it is Too!!)

Desmod is a dog - Humans are the owners or care takers - not the father and mother - If Desmond gets a tumor, the Human owners will humanely put him down - but if it was a CHILD to which they would be Mom and Dad, they would not make that decision, they would spend all their money including the new mail box to save the child and keep him/her alive. We all need to learn the difference - I have animals at home too -
Nice build! I would also add some sort of base and over coat to sustain the years of harsh weather.
Looks sturdy.

Yeah..........I just finished my $450 with composite decking boards and aluminum caps that I bent at work attached with stainless clips i made as well to hide all fasteners, and counter flashed. Planter box with drain hidden through the structure. Low voltage lighting to light up the raised numbers on both sides, and interlocked all wooden structure together with glue and lags. It's stupid dope and I inspired my UPS dude as well.
Great job i need to fix mine now lol I give it a 11
Looks fantastic. Could you please post a link to the solar light?
Unwarranted advice: i had trouble getting repeatable cuts on my miter saw until i started using stop blocks. I keep my miter saw on a mobile base so i can take it to a client's location so i just throw a sacrificial fence on the saw and clamp the stop block onto the fence. You get less tear out using the sacrificial fence so win win. Cheers
@justinandjessdesigns

Yes a stop block is always beneficial! Ours stays in the truck most of the time for jobs too
Very nice. Just subscribed
Nice box ! I would have put the numbers on the other side, for the mailman ... as he approaches the box, he would see the numbers. Unless of course the mailman doesn't have right-hand drive for curbside delivery. Good job! One thing I worry about tho ... it might be a wind-catcher; IOW's, it's not just a simple post, it's more like a wall, or a fence. Hopefully you don't have much wind where you are. You certainly did a lot more research, tho, than the average DIY mailbox-builder. Congratulations!

Very nice! I had one of these built last year + a matching fence. I've had so many compliments, but the truth is, y'all's design looks a little better! If I'd seen this one first, I would probably have requested this model. I used the exact same numbers, but I put them on both sides. Also, I mounted them horizontally instead of vertically. If you haven't already, be sure to treat the wood so that it doesn't turn gray. Gray doesn't jibe with that mid-century vibe. 😉 BTW, love that dog. 🥰🐾

Next time pour a Little concrete, then lay your rebar.. or block it and tie it so it’s floating and ends up in the Moshe of the slab. Also just put a moisture sleeve on the 4x4 and sink it right into the concrete and avoid those silly anchors lol On the note of using cedar pickets , you should def put an oil finish or a finish in general on it or it will be solid gray by this time next year and look 100 years old lol

Just preference, thought it would be easier to make fine tune adjustments for the exterior trim
Looks good, how stable did it end up being? I would've been OCD and likely did some cross-bracing on the two posts since they would be hidden anyhow.

it was at first but now that the concrete has cured and the soil has settled it's very sturdy.
Do you have electricity out at the mailbox? How did you run the corded power tools?
How is it holding up? I always see people say wood shouldn't touch the ground. I wanna do this but worried of wood rot

Fill in the wasp nest entrance hole and you'll be golden 😊
How stable did it turn out to be? Seemed like the base was pretty shallow, Id think a good wind would blow it over. Love the look of it nice work!

I’m going to do something similar but with 18”x24”x5.5” base…it uses about 4 bags of concrete so I should be good 🤣

yes. that's what the other channel that built this same thing two years ago did.
Any reason why using mailbox post spikes instead of pouring a concrete footing wouldn't work just as well for this project? I'm considering trying this unless there's a downside that I'm not considering.
I'm doing something similar but I'm putting the post in concrete - not doing the pad.

You did right by not putting the post in the ground because it will not rot and easy to fix if someone backs into it
I saw that you used a solar light! Can you post the link?
looks cool but I dont see it lasting very long being set only 3.5 inches deep. Wind and frost heave will be problem. Most posts are set at least 12" under ground. I go minimum 24" for lateral support.
@johnlee7085

Exactly. 3.5” isn’t a foundation. It’s a sidewalk. Even the old crappy mailbox had a one foot foundation. With as much face as this design has, I probably would have bent rebar into Els and built an inverted Tee foundation.
