I recommend this product . I have installed a few of these now and I would like to add one rider when using the Hoselink supplied wall plugs . When you have bricks that are hollow or have multiple holes in them don't drill with a final 12 mm drill use 10 mm final size and just drill a small section 3 or 4 mm deep with the 12 mm drill . The reason for this is that the Hoselink wall plugs are a tapered design and the bricks with holes may only be holding in about 15 to 20 mm of solid brick . In a 12 mm hole they don't hold that well . In a 10 mm hole with a short 12 mm start they jam in nicely and hold well . Solid brick is a different situation as the hole has grip to a greater depth . Also don't put your level on the side of the bracket as it's tapered . Put the level on the horizontal face of the hole that takes the support shaft and set it horizontal .

I am a fan of yr HOSE LINK And I HOPE TO WIN A BLACK HOSE REEL. I am 64 and Disabled, Widow, and would very much love this for it would make my life so much easier. Thank u so much.

I'm pretty experienced in DIY but still managed to screw this up. I drilled a pilot hole on 3mm drill bit then went to 10mm. This shot the holes massively out of alignment and I was left with holes out of level. Now I need to refill the holes and do it over. Can't believe I bodged it.

@@hoselink I filled in the holes and drilled new ones which were all perfect. Only thing was, a 3mm drill bit snapped off inside one of the holes and got stuck. I widened the hole to 12 mm at the face then drilled 3x 3mm holes around the stuck bit which loosened it for me to pluck it out with tweezers. Job done.

Ol' mate needs to invest in some cordless tools! :)

Looks easy enough, though I’m not a handy person and would stuff it up. Had my hose-link hose sitting in my garage for well over 12 months now as cannot do it. Have no one to help me.

Great video, what were the other holes for? Is it ok to drill in the mortar or better in bricks?

Hi there, sorry for any confusion the other holes are from a different installation on the wall. So please feel free to ignore these. In this case we drilled into the mortar as we installed at the exact recommended height. If possible we recommend both set of screws go into the brickwork. If this means mounting a little higher or lower then the recommended height this is fine.

Can it install on stucco house without cracking or chipping the stucco?

Is it a good idea to put holes in the mortar like that? Doesn't it create a spot for water ingress into the brickwork?

Hi Andrew, brick is the best choice if it's in good condition as it's stronger, but if mortar is the only option, it will hold as the holes aren't too large and they should not allow water in if the plugs are used. The bracket is also shaped in such a way that it creates a cover around the holes that will help seal them. I hope that helps!

Would this process be the same for installing on stucco instead of brick?

Hi Nick! Because Stucco is a render it will depend on what the substrate material is. If it is brick underneath then same process. If blueboard or similar would need a backing plate mounted to a stub. You can fix the bracket to it but the main thing you want to watch out for is not to crack the stucco so it doesn't chip off. When drilling first with the spearhead, only use the drill on the normal setting, not the hammer setting! Once you have drilled to the brick it should be ok to use the hammer setting and the 12mm masonry drill piece. can I use concrete screws to fix it to the wall instead of plugs?

Thanks so much for your question. We wouldn't recommend using concrete screws instead of plugs as the bracket is designed to use the supplied screws and plugs, which have been tried and tested and we can guarantee they will work when installed correctly. The risk with trying another type of screw is the reel might not hold and you would need to find a very specific size and type of screw to be compatible with our bracket design.

Thanks for this. Quite useful. But I don't understand why he drilled the two extra holes above the bracket. They are not used.

Please share what hammer drill you are using. I am not a handy person and upon a Bunnings staff advise I bought ozito 710w hammer drill and it turned out to be so horrible. I thought it would be as smooth as the one in video but it took ages for me to drill a single hole on brick wall!

Our technician uses both a Dewalt drill on a hammer setting and a full Tauras hammer drill, which is much easier. However, hammer drills can be quite big and not always worth purchasing for a one-off project. He advised the most important part of the installation is ensuring you have the correct masonry bits. Hi Andrew, sorry to hear you're having trouble. Our product technician has recommended the following: cut a piece of cardboard, make a hole and tape it into place where you want to drill. Start drilling slowly before increasing the pace. Alternatively, if you have a smaller masonry drill bit, you could drill smaller pilot holes to help direct the larger drill piece into position. Hope this helps!

What about other types of walls ie Hebel? Not the same as brick……. New housing isn’t always brick or timber!

Hi there! You can find this information on our website, or if you ever are in doubt, give our customer service centre a call! On our website you can have a look at the FAQ's with our reels. There's instructions for each type of wall under; Q. What surfaces can I mount the hose reel to and how? With Hebel: Anchor plugs with Sika Flex. Blow out any debris in the holes, fill each hole (halfway) with Sika flex 11FC, tap in the masonry plugs. Let dry overnight then attach the bracket. Hope that's helpful!

Hei there, why do you need to drill it 2 times? First with 8mm and then the second with 12mm. I wonder about that. Cheers

Our customer care team have advised the following: 'The first 8mm hole is a pilot hole, which helps keep the drill piece straight and accurate when drilling with the 12mm bit, so the masonry plug has a snug fit. A masonry plug that fits loosely can cause issues when securing the bracket.'

Why does it need to be installed 1.5 m away from the tap? Can we install above the tap through brick?

Great question Lydia, and to be honest you can pretty much install it wherever you want. But it's important to consider a few things and one of those is the length of the leader hose. But you can cut it shorter (that would look better if you install it super close to the tap) or you can buy an extension if you wish to install it further away than 1.5m. Feel free to call our customer service if you want to chat with a person about your installation concerns!

I have a Ryobi hammer drill and a masonry bit and I'm still having massive issues drilling the holes in the brick. Hoselink could be a lot more informative to customers about the size and type of drill needed.

Hey, I’ve made the depth more than 50mm, does it really matter? As it seems that my concrete wall depth is less than 50mm.(Around 30mm I’d say)

Hi Clive, we recommend the material you are screwing into can take the full 60mm screw to ensure it is secure. You can use Silka Flex to help secure the plugs in the screw holes or, alternatively, you can consider mounting on a metal post like this one: www.hoselink.com.au/products/retractable-hose-reel-post, which you need to concrete in the ground and the reel slots on top (no bracket required) or screwing on to a timber post. Hi! Yes, if you wish to install the hose reel into brick, then you do need a hammer drill for the installation holes. But you can also watch some of our other videos if you wish to install it on a timber post or use an installation post. There are quite a few options, but if you wish to drill into brick, then yes - a hammer drill it is! Great but Probably best to use protective work gear {glasses and gloves} for public videos? Drill bits are hot and brick dust/rocks can get into eyes. 🤔
