How to install a 5 stage drinking water filter

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

This is a brief how-to video that shows how to install an APEC ROES-50 reverse osmosis (RO) 5 stage drinking water filter system in your house with a kit that allows tie in to your refrigerator. I've had mine for about 6 years now and have since installed several and recommended to others. The water quality is impeccable and filter maintenance is simple and inexpensive, meaning clean nearly zero cost filtered water for life. This requires some plumbing but isn't very advanced, a great project to get your feet wet (pun intended, but hopefully not, so listen to my tip on shutting off your house water main ball valve!)
Note: APEC did not sponsor this video, I'm just a happy customer having either personally installing or recommending a half dozen of these to family and friends. The products below may contain affiliate links which help support the channel.

Yeah, nobody wants to talk about that switch valve. I cannot find a video nowhere with 1000s of do it yourself guys who install these because hooking the switching valve up in correctly means clean water or pausing water. Thanks, Brian for following the standard and skip the switching them.

Skip the switch valve? What's a switch valve?

Fantastic video. Great practical tips, easy to follow. I didn't connect my system to the fridge, so I needed the manual for the very last steps to install the filtered water in the new faucet. Other than that, one of the best videos that I have seen. Thank you!

Thanks Brian. Can you do a quick walk through on how you did the basement install. I have zero space under my kitchen sink. I wanted to install on my fridge and top mount tap but was told that it was not possible. Would like to see how you did it.

Hey Marvin, thanks for watching. I will shoot a quick walkthrough tonight for you and post it on my channel. Installing in your basement is not as easy as teeing into your sink but it's definitely not terribly difficult, especially if you use a shark bite like I did. I will reply again once it's posted later!

Hi Marvin, I just posted a video to help out (see link below). You can mount it in the basement no problem, and absolutely no issue feeding both your fridge and sink top tap. You could technically feed as many sources as you want as long as you watch the distance and pressure drop, so just make sure the filter is installed centrally close to where your water will be dispensed. Hope this helps! kzread.info/dash/bejne/gYmTsZZ8p9zKdso.html

this was a good video. i have been wanting to buy a unit for a while. it looks similar to when i connected an ice maker. but i have a concerning question, not sure you can answer. why do you need it to connect to the drain? i am guessing over flow. i am asking because one year, my plumbing backed up and it came back up the shower and sink drains. if my plumbing backs up in a house, i am assuming it might go back up the filter drainage as well? and i would have to clean out and flush the whole system? thank you. if it it minor over flow, maybe i could run the drainage down to the floor to the crawl space. what are your thoughts. thanks again.

Thank you for the comments. You need to connect to the drain as the filter discharges water, it's part of the byproduct of the filtration. I believe it's something around 2/3 discharge to 1/3 filtered water. Most of these systems have in-line check valves which make return flow impossible, and if you wanted to make it very redundant you could buy another and stick it in line with the discharge (black hose) to the drain pipe saddle.

Great video. What size is that diamond coated drill bit?

It's a Diablo 1/2" drill bit, but just double check the outer diameter of the fitting that has to slip through the drilled hole, it should be an easy fit.

Thanks!! I am super nervous about the granite drilling and cracking the countertop. Can I install the rest of the system and utilize the filtered water before deciding if I DIY the counter drilling part?

Can you hook these up to outside sink or a water hose

Outside sink or water hose sure, you can pretty much put a filter downstream anywhere as long as you have reasonable water pressure you will have good results.

I'm not sure on the water quality, you could reach out to Apec and ask them about that, but on the pressure side you would need a water pump to do that, the inlet pressure must be comparable to city water pressure to have a decent output.

Background music very annoying. Needed more detail on what tubes go to what attachment points. Maybe do it outside on a table first to show details, then redo underneath the sink where it’s hard to see what’s going on. Great construction techniques/tips.
