I've been waiting for one of you guys to prove me right or wrong about this method of speeding up splitting time.......... and you proved me right. The Guards are there to clear the wedge from stuck wood and Eye bolts are to fragile to take the pressure some jams may exert. The best I've seen so far is a small pipe welded upright by the Control valve with a welded T pipe set inside. An adjustable 2 section rod mounted of top of the Cylinder and a Hose Clamp on the inner rod to catch and rotate the T, striking the Control Valve handle to release it. Even this design presents a problem. If the Control Valve needs replacement the Welded vertical pipe will need to be cut off until repair is completed.

The bolts broke because the rope pulled them around at an angle. I don't think the rounds would have done that, I could definitely be wrong on that. No mod is perfect that I have seen either. Old Speeco models have an adjustable end block which make a ton of sense to me, but probably not economical to produce in a timely manner for the manufacturer

An idea for you on a table/catcher for your splitter is that there's no need to buy that expensive small one from TSC. Just get 2 scrap pieces of 2x6 and bolt through the mounting holes, one on either side, then you can put regular self brackets on both sides and put whatever scrap you have on top (plywood, lumber, etc; I used scrap pieces of deck boards I had left over), for half of what 1 shelf costs at TSC!!

For your paracord your idea isn’t bad for sure little nicer actually. I’ve seen several people just tie the string around the backstop and go to the handle. Same setup your using but not have to worry about the eyebolts.

Why don't those splitters have an adjustable cylinder anchor or an adjustable stop for the block to rest against? Based on the length of wood you are splitting.

@@CentralMinnesotaFirewood Kind of crazy to think that you can split blocks with a splitting maul that is 6 pounds, and splitters are 25-30 ton, is there that much force from a hand swung maul? I use a 6lb and 10lb and sometimes the 6lb splits better.

Put a tee and a needle valve to use as a bypass bleeder on the rod end of the cylinder. Bunch of mods to overclock that bad boy. Crushed the tip of one of my fingers on that exact model of splitter btw, careful for both the bolt on the side of the splitter head and where it meets the rail. And put that popple right in the compost heap, makes more ash than heat. Also tends to smell like burning diapers for some reason lol

@@CentralMinnesotaFirewood if you're not comfortable, probably best to leave it alone, hydraulics can be super dangerous. I'm no expert either or I'd help you out, I'm only comfortable enough with it to break my own stuff lol

just strap a piece of 4x4 or 6x6 or some stacked/nailed/screwed 2x6 or 2x8 on the foot to get the length you want .

Definitely an option. I didn't like the idea of a spongy pine block on the end, If I had my head screwed on straight this would have worked well even with the round that got stuck...

50-60 cords in sales and then the hard decision to reinvest in a 75% time savings.

With family, football coaching, and a fulltime cabinet shop, if i can get to 30 cords up might be a miracle at this point. But yes the reinvestment is a huge thing in time savings, and what is needed vs wanted

@@CentralMinnesotaFirewood I get the time constraints, as Chris has often mentioned in his videos one can always make more money but not more time. so if one could even double production if not triple in the same amount of time?🤔 and I also understand money restraints as well and making do with what one has or can afford on a new venture.

@@CentralMinnesotaFirewood Thinking outside the box, you mention football coach maybe a team outdoor weight training program plenty of fresh air wind sprints back and forth to the trailer with firewood rounds under their arms, wood splitting etc etc.🤪
