Love this advice. When I first started, everyone told me to step away after every putt, reset, etc. I did putting games with two putters and you have to make both in order to advance (to simulate pressure). I was okay at putting, never super confident. I played a round with my state's champion in leagues and asked him what to work on with my putting. He said my stroke seemed inconsistent. Told me to grab all the putters I could find and bang out 100 putts in a row from 15 feet, trying to hit the same spot every time. I went from ~30% at 25ft to 75% in like a week. My confidence in my ability to hit metal in C1 skyrocketed, and my form feels natural and consistent. I still play a 2-disc putting game to simulate pressure, but cranking out mechanically identical putts over and over for muscle memory is *good*.

One of the best putting vids I've seen...and I've seen a ton. Great job. Always good to find new insights that aren't overcomplicated. Many little nuggets in here to try. One thing to maybe add in the 100 putt exercise, use 2 spots from the same distance. It can be relatively close, (a foot or 2 between) but enough to where you have to re-set because you're at a 'new' spot. This reduces the temptation to just auto-pilot the throws one after another from the same spot.

A collected, systematic method. A lot of people don't realize how much work it takes to become good at things like this. Practice, practice, practice. This is just like practicing basketball. Shoot, shoot shoot. Track progress. It's fun to make games, too. Shoot 5, 10, 15..if you miss 20, back to 15, miss 15, back to 10..etc. But I really love this approach..I'm just now getting back into disc golf, and before I'd practice with 3 discs..not quite as efficient, but financially it was what I had to work with :D Great video, can' t wait to finish it later!

His technique is so different than others I have studied. Those I've watched line up their shot, pull back slowly then release in the same spot that they lined up their disc originally. Brodie starts out with the disc up around his eyes before pulling back. It works for him, and shows that it is all about a technique that is good for you.

I like the mini games aspect. I have also devised something very similar. Where I have to make all of my practice putters before I can go inside. I will be putting these to good use. Thanks Brodie. You sure have come a long way in a very short period of time.

Nice Vid, Brodie. I'd been leaving a bunch of my putts short lately and hadn't considered how the "early release" could be contributing. Played a round yesterday focusing just on the release timing and was drrrrrillllinnng. Thanks dude.

That's some awesome advice! The 3 disc game sounds like an awesome way to put pressure on yourself, that's a cool tip. It will be awesome when you get that lav mic for stuff in the garage and just all your videos in general.

There was a putting drill floating around here somewhere from years ago that involved something like this. You took 3 strides (6-7 feet) from the basket in 3 directions and set up stations. You putt X number of putts (10 was the number in the video) using your main putting style at each station then move on to the next station. If you make all of the putts at a station you putt the second time around using your secondary putting style. If you make all of those you take 3 strides back from that station and set up a new one. Repeat. Its a practice that requires some room so its more of an outdoor one, but depending on how things go you end up putting from different angles and lengths in a couple of different putting styles.

I appreciate you couching your recommendations with the disclaimer that you haven't been playing long - very humble! But honestly don't worry too much about it, like, your views are valid as well.

To be fair (as someone who VERY casually plays the game) - it took me about 4 years of casually playing whenever my way more skilled friends (nobody's pro, more like intermediate/advanced am) would invite me out to get to a point where I can consistently make 15 foot putts on flat ground - that 4 year period literally started four years ago. The only difference in my experience between then and now is that 4 years ago, I was playing maybe a course *maybe* once every 4 months, and in the past 8 months the one friend in my "bubble" that I've seen consistently actually owns a practice basket (and a shitload of putters) , so we'd just chill with a few beers and throw at the basket. Similarly, my overall game has improved because he keeps dragging me to courses wherever we are (we end up traveling to a few of the same spots outside of where we actually live) and making me play way more often...I went from playing once every 5 or 6 months to playing 6 times in the past few weeks, and the increased play frequency honestly made more of a difference in my game than any amount of thinking about it did. It really is about repetition and understanding how it *feels* to throw a disc correctly for yourself - it took me years, but recently I had kind of a breakthrough and have had that itch to go and keep honing certain shots so they work.

Advice here is spot on. Boils down to one word (actually just one syllable)... Reps... I've just started this sport (discovered both my sons and I like it), but I've played plenty of other sports, and whether it is "normal" golf putts, free throws, baseball pitches, soccer penalty kicks, or anything... Reps is the way. My current plan as a brand new beginner is to get several different putters (ideally check feel at a shop), work with them and identify a favorite, and then drop some money on a 10-pack of that model & start doing the reps. Thanks Brodie.
