Being the fact that she is NOT a native speaker, she had to learn the language as an outsider, therefore she notices things that native born speakers totally overlook.
The way she compares the syllables to pearls is so beautiful
Oh my! This woman is a genius! Even after a few moments saying then French "euh" sound and positioning my mouth to that "french position" and speaking in French, it does sound better! Incroyable! Merci beaucoup! *_*
My favorite French word is "les oiseaux." I don't know why, it just feels good to say it. :)
I taught French in a high school where there was a foreign exchange student from Italy. At the first of the year, he didn't know how to ask for a drink of water in English. By the end of the year, amazingly, he spoke English without a trace of an accent. So yes, Géraldine, some people do lose the accent. On the other hand, I have seen elderly people in America who have retained their strong native accents. For an example, I know a male German and a female German. Each one came to America after the war. The lady speaks with such a thick German accent that I can scarcely understand her, while the man speaks perfect English sans accent. I believe that certain people just have a "knack" with foreign language or another subject.
As a native Spanish speaker I found the R sound so hard to achieve. The whole video was pure gold! 😄

Both ladies are so charming!
Both Geraldine's are so valuable and I think ONLY M. Metz communicates the essential observations and remedies fir Americans. My story of woe as far as bad French instructors is amusing, but Geri cleared up my own questions.
this program is so precious , I learn so much and overcome some of my fears of French pronounciation, Ms. Geraldine and your lovely guest. when I hear someone on the French Tv program speakers, the pronounciation is so clear and so lovely.
As an American I've frequently been complimented on my French pronunciation, not amazing, but usually, "Pas mal du tout." However, whatever aptitude I have was due to listening then trying to repeat the words aloud correctly numerous times. This video was great because Geri presented a number of "rules" of pronunciation of which I was totally oblivious. I loved the comments related to English speakers ending syllables with a consonant sound as opposed to the French speakers ending syllables on a vowel sound. That is so audibly apparent but I'd never really put that together. Merçi.
In 42 years living in France I don't think I've ever used the word "serrurerie" ! A hard word to pronounce for many non-native speakers is "écureuil".

I guess you haven’t read “twilight” the novel :-)
Thank you to Geraldine for introducing us to the work of Geri Metz. A very revealing discussion on the differences between English and French especially 'open syllabication'. Geri also puts humour into her studies which helps us all to enjoy the subject more. Also very revealing is that Geraldine was completely unaware of the phenomenon of 'mute e' in spoken French. In a nutshell this one video will help us all to appreciate the task more clearly to speaking better French. Un Grand merci aux deux Geraldines. Paul

Paul, do you know how I can contact the Geraldine who talked about phonetics today? I do not see her url address anywhere nor an email address. I feel I need to work with a phonetics teacher to improve my spoken French. I’ve tried to take phonetics for years. Even at Middlebury Language School, I was repeatedly not allowed to enroll in the phonetics class that was offered to some students, which upset me and held back my progress in spoken French terribly. Any help you could provide in reaching her would be greatly appreciated.

Geraldine is generous to introduce her students to Geri the scholar.
One Geri was so good but the two Geris together proved incredible. The insights were really profound.
Fabulous talk. Thanks so much to the two Geraldines.
I love your presentations Géraldine, and I’ve discovered another secret about French women.. the first of course is why French women don’t get fat.. you had a lovely explanation in a pervious presentation.. 😱can’t remember it en Français.. about not heaping ones plate and definitely not gobbling ones food.. I’ll go back through my notes.. But the other is why French women, and men look so good! . that is when speaking French, one has to use one’s mouth!.. it gives all the muscles of our face a good workout and thus stops the wrinkles and sag!! A totally enjoyable way to tone up..😘😘🌻💞
Thank you so much Géraldine for this wonderful video with Geri! I've really benefited from it!
I was perked up much by the rhe dialogue between you, Geraldine and the The American Lady, who contributed much to my knowledge and understanding between the 2 French teachers - on FRENCH AND THE OTHER AMERICAN - both engaged as teachers of French language
Wow!!! What a wonderful interview with the 2 Géraldine...It has given me some hope , of mastering french one day, it's the language that, i find so hard to master...gracias por los buenos consejos sobre la fonética francesa...👍🇪🇸🇬🇧
Merci Géraldines pour ces lectures. Il'est difficile à maîtrise accent français. Merci! Comme Une Françaises
Wow... this lady is amazing....she really knows her subject, her points on how the French hold their mouths during speech and especially when she talks about how the English end words with consonants and the french do it with vowels is really eye opening, I had never thought of it in those terms..... thank you Geraldine for this super lesson.
I wish they’d taught me all this in school especially no accentuation, more monotone speaking. Thank you.
I'm also using IPA to learn how to pronounce French and I find it so helpful.
I couldn't take my eyes of this video. Truly amazing!
So enlightening! Thanks!
Best teachers ever! This lesson was SO helpful, merci
Fantastic! Geri is amazing! Thank you for arranging this video!
Thanks to you both, I found that extremely interesting and helpful. What an amazing, knowledgeable and friendly teacher Geri Metz is:) I'm just one of the many who struggle still with the French 'r'.
Thank you, Geraldine! This is video is a master piece. Congratulations!
I would like to see another video with you too. THIS WAS GREAT!!!
SO INTERESTING! I love all of your videos!!!
Merci beaucoup! I learned so much and am excited to begin practicing these new ideas. I love watching Comme une Française. I learn something on every episode!
That was a fantastic lesson! I spoke German for the first 20 years of my life, so English actually is my second language. I had 3 years of French in High School, in the mid 1960’s - which was a very long time ago. I didn’t ever have occasion to speak French, but I have always liked listening to the language in song. When I went to Paris for the first time 15 years ago I thought, oh wow, this sounds absolutely nothing like what I learned in school! So when I returned to Paris for a 3 week visit 2 years ago I thought I better improve my French language skills ahead of my visit. That’s when I found you, Geraldine, and thank you, I’ve been learning a lot. Now today, Geri, this is the first time I’ve heard the French and English languages from a new point of view. That was very illuminating! I will now pay attention on how I form my French words. Thank you very much! I will check out your channel!
So so good! Geraldine you deserve more subscribers because this is so helpful! 🙌
thank you Geri & Geraldine... fascinating information Geri... we know this intuitively but never break it down. I also enjoy your attitude Geraldine, to embrace your accent & be proud of it.
this video is a must see .........every minute packed with so many useful information.
Thank you so much Geraldine for introducing us to Geri. It was a fantastic video! You are a true gem Geraldine, I am so happy that I found you.
Great episode! Loved it!
Merci pour tout Géraldine!
Merci! This video was so helpful.
Merci beaucoup Géraldine pour ce leçon! What a wonderful insight to how to speak like a French speaker, so appreciate this knowledge.
ive been waiting for this, merci beaucoup :D
Been watching your videos for almost an hour now (they're so good, I'm in a rabbit hole!); I've been studying French by myself for the past 4 months with a whole lot of YT videos and one grammar book, but your chanel is a drink of cold water on a summer day! I'll probably be able to start speaking (to myself) in order to improve my pronunciation soon. At least speaking, listening and reading are developing somewhat; Writing is...not.... Lol. Merci beaucoup, Géraldine, pour ça enseignement! ♡ bonne journée!
You too are a delight to watch - such radiant and beautiful women - and the tips are so deeply insightful and helpful... Thank you! K ))))
This was very informative and joy-filled at the same time. Merci bien.
so interesting conversation! i have just discovered your channel and it assists me every day now in my french learning process. Thank you so much for your will to share your teaching experiences. I appreciate it so much!
Really excellent episode Géraldine. Many thanks. And thanks to Geri Metz also.
so great!!! Geri is DELIGHTFUL
This video was so informative and interesting! I’m learning French and could never figure out the rhythm and placements of accents, which now after watching this video makes sense!
Excellent, incredible advice from your guest!!
I love this interview! Just learning French and I knew immediately you were using the mouth differently!! And to hear you speak of it is amazing! So true❤
Im sooo happy I found your channel, Geri! Ton étudiante, -Rachèl
I really love this 2 women😘😙😚 you guys made my french lessons so interesting😄😊 merci beaucoup.
Such an informative video, thank you for sharing your discussion!
Double MERCI.
Simply brilliant
Geri Metz , Such an Amazing professor , what she mentioned is really really useful , I want to thank her from the bottom of heart , thank you to and best of luck
Wonderful lesson!
Really good video. Thank you for sharing her with us. I definitely learned a few things but the remark about the pearls and how french rolls along will stay with me forever when Im working so hard on my speaking. Merci beaucoup.
So love this! Thank you!
Thanks very much. This is so useful.I have been studying english for years and now I am studying french. Those tips are very useful.
Merci beaucoup !!
Merci, Géraldine. This was such an interesting interview. What a charming lady, this Geri. I will definitely check out her channel. Fascinating subject. My mouth has grown too relaxed from speaking English. Quelle découverte!
Oh wow that was AMAZING!
This is so valuable! I should have listened to this earlier in my learning lessons. An understandable accent is better than an accent where you can't understand anything the learner is saying. I appreciate this as an English speaker speaking to foreigners in North America. I found, learning Portuguese, that finding my voice was one of the most enjoyable out-of-body experiences. These linguistic explanations are priceless! Merci!
She is brilliant!
Thank you so much, Geri, for explaining the Francophone embouchure! As a American learning French I've been trying without success to find this information, but it seems, like you say, to be a very unique way of thinking about it and I've yet to find someone else explain it this way. When I formed my mouth as you described already my English sounded more French! Haha Merci beaucoup.
Bloody brilliant.
Video géniale ! Bravo et merci les Géraldine...
Geraldine this was so helpful I wish I could actually sit down and practice this with an instructor. People CAN lose their accent. My mom is from France and now speaks english with a western US accent. I hope one day to learn the French with a French accent. i am sorry that i did not learn the French as a child. My mother spent a great deal of time to speak like an American. Thanks for sharing this do you have a link to Geri's channel. I didn't see it here.
Merci beaucoup madame
This was really great.
Loved it.
They did a really great job, that lady is amazing I wish I was there to learn from her. God bless all ya
The 'R' sound is still the hardest for a native English speaker!
i love this video, its so educational and eye opening! im not fluent in french yet but I can imitate brilliantly!!I guess learning.and imitating will get me there eventually!!😁😁
Interesting stuff, especially analyzing the pronunciations
Thank you Geraldines. This is so interesting for me. I'm originally from England but I've lived in France for many years and I have English conversation groups for French people. We have exactly the same problems with each others languages. For example, many French people can't hear the difference between the words chip, cheap ship and sheep, I get them to Watch my mouth and copy me. It usually doe the trick. As for me, every time I speak to someone new they ask "where do you come from"; I don't like it because I've lived in France so long and my whole life is here. But the music of French and English is quite different and the logic and way of thinking in our languages is often different. I have retired English teachers in my groups who know much more about English grammar than me, but they still say things in ways that a native speaker never would.

I love you both!
this rocks big time! !!!
It helps me so much to know you can’t always hear it! That’s how I feel with French!
Merci!🎉❤
Merci Beaucoup de Homme anglais!!!!
Really liked the video! Great and interesting tips :)
I learned something new about the curling of the tongue for the pronounceiation of the bowels!
The discussion itself was interesting, but what really drew my attention is how excited the lady on the left is throughout the video :))
So cool!
I was afraid to speak French; and I guess I am still am, but listening you is giving more confidence to continue to study it.
This video is so very helpful! Thank you to both Geraldines.

I feel the same as the professor who appreciated her. I am really going to check out your work!
Very interesting!
Thank you. You make a good team. This will be very helpful,
It seems to me the hardest vowel for French people to grasp is the soft "i" in words like "lift" or "little." They usually replace it with the "ee" sound. I think if a French person wanted to sound less French, that would be a good place to start. But, as she said, it's not a requirement, and having an accent can be even more endearing.
thank you :)
RRRRRRRRRRR is a killeR for me! Thank you for the fab video.
Do you have more videos on the syllabication? I definitely end my syllables with consonants and really need to improve my accent. Thank you and love your work you guys!!
