    An oldie but still a goodie. I still return to this video to remind me, as a coach, to work and perfect the basic skills. Please remember that blocking the plate without the ball is dangerous and illegal. Also, times have changed where the armbands with pitchlists have taken over.

I just stood a distance behind the batter, where i wouldn’t get by her swing or bat fling. I was great as catcher and catching foul balls with the mitt.. the opposing team would always be out within a few minutes when i was catcher!

    I pull my head everytime the ball is on the ground how do I stop that

  • @brucemercer7753

    @brucemercer7753

    4 жыл бұрын

    You are fighting against instinct. Pulling the head is naturally what people do. Overcome instinct with thought. Think to yourself something simple telling yourself to look down. Something like a COMMAND you give yourself. Like... if there was somebody vnext to you who would immediately say LOOK DOWN or BALL or anything and they are ordering your not to pull your head. Except it is you with the Command or Reminder. The more you hear yourself think it when it happens the sooner Looking Down instead of pulling you head will replace the instinct. You can also try psychological REWARDS for when you do it right... like the Pavlov's Dog Experiment. Give yourself a small candy every time you for it right. Like 1 Skittles. Or keep track in your head and if you did it right 5 times in the 1st inning give yourself 5 Skittles in the dugout. Or M&M's or Smarties whatever you like.

    I think Catcher is more of a I WANT TO DO IT position than any other position in Baseball and Softball. YES. If you WANT IT you should go for it. Tell the Coaches I want to play Catcher and they will start playing you there to teach it to you. And if you change your mind ask to play at another position and they will try to teach you that. But I think because your instincts are telling you that you want to be a Catcher that you will like it there. Only the Pitcher and the Catcher get to touch the ball almost all game. Some positions might not touch it all game. It can be boring sometimes at other positions. But Catchers NEVER get a boring game.

  • @JStarStar00

    @JStarStar00

    Well 12U is usually the level they start having base stealing, all of a sudden the catcher becomes important. First off the catcher must be able to throw down to second base on the fly. If you cannot do that you probably ought to re-think playing catcher. It is not necessary to have a cannon arm and be able to throw like a rocket to 2B every time. (although that certainly helps.) But if you cannot even throw it down to second on the fly at all, the other teams will figure this out very soon and start stealing bases almost every pitch.

    We don’t teach framing. It’s receiving. And to be quite less movement the better and only revive pitches from river to river. That’s old school framing. Reaching around. “Baseball” style is better and prove. With a bigger ball.

  • @bradvanwey1915

    @bradvanwey1915

    Proven. The last 4 years and our umpires like the non movement. Plus , you set up the umpire in questionable calls are strike if you only receive river to river not every pitch. And work to the plate umps zone.
