Fastpitch Softball Catchers Training - Megan Willis

Спорт

Produced by Fastpitch.TV - Catcher Megan Willis teaches basic training for fastpitch softball catchers. She gives key tips for all the basic rules of catcher. You can purchase softball bats at SoftballJunk.com.
SoftballJunk.com is a great resource to find the perfect fastpitch softball bat just for you!

Willis shows softball girls easy ways to work all the factors of catching so that they can be successful behind the plate. She teaches the right way to receive a drop ball so that the pitch will be called a strike more times than not. She also teaches the right way to receive a ball so that the umpire will think that it is a strike and it will be more efficient than framing a ball because umpires are more likely to notice.

She also teaches the correct way to block a softball so that the ball will always stay in front and will not pass behind the catcher and the runner will not advance a base. She shows how when blocking the ball to stay rounded to the plate so the ball will not bounce off in another direction.

The last thing she teaches is how to block the plate so that the runner will not score and the runner will get out when she is trying to score home. These tips for catching will help form a good catcher and a way to win a good softball game.

This is good but I am currently a catcher for my highschool so ive had plenty of experience in the game and I must say that I don't agree with how she talks about blocking home plate. I have used this method for a while now and I have received 3 concussions and my softball career is close to an end because of it. PLEASE encourage catchers to stay out of the base path when a play occurs at home. Trust me!

What's the difference between what she is doing to "block the plate" and "obstructing the runner"?

  • @cate0843

lakehouse10061 It's only obstruction if the catcher is in the baseline before they have the ball. She is starting in front of the plate and stepping into the baseline as she receives the ball.

lakehouse10061, it is that's you start in front of home plate so you won't get called for obstruction.Any ways I used to play first base so I was called for obstruction,I don't get it either.but I am a semi pro catcher
