6 Wild Caught Mikula Frontosa
Gibberosa are the bluest from the location-variant Moba/Congo.(Mikula Collection Point)
These fascinating Cichlids require large tanks.
Species Profile Cyphotilapia Frontosa
(Gibberosa)
(Wild Caught)
(125 Gallon Fish Tank)
(125 Gallon Aquarium)
(Cichlid Tank)
Info I discussed In Video ( Here are SOME Examples..NOT ALL)..
-Burundi - the fish body is pale blue with 5 vertical black bands, the 6th one goes from the forehead along the fish eye to the other side.
-Blue Zaire Kapampa - the fish has saturated moderately blue colored fins. The body upper part and nape are opalescent. The dark band between the eyes reaches the fish mouth. The fish pelvic fin and light vertical bands are also moderately blue colored.
-Kavala - the fish has 5 bands and yellowish membranes on the dorsal.
-Kigoma - has 7 stripes, dark blue cheeks which can transform to almost black. The dorsal is yellowish. The vertical bands are white or white and blue. The band going over the eye is rather stumped and it looks almost like a stain. Dorsal and fluke membranes are yellowish.
-Kipili - is a 5-striped type of burundi frontosa that simultaneously has black stripes just like Kigoma has and a horizontal stripe between the eyes - just like Blue Sambia has.
-Blue Mpimbwe - its head and fins are blue, besides with aging the color becomes more saturated and bright. Blue color of these collective species is something in the middle between Burundi and Nord Congo fish types color.
-Congo - the body color is pale blue with 5 vertical bands, the 6th one goes from the forehead along the fish eye to the opercle insertions.
-Blue Sambia - the head and fins are blue, the bands on the body are light colored set off with blue. There is a distinct dark band between the eyes.
-Moba Zaire - the fish color varies from ultramarine to light violet.
-Zambian and Tanzanian look so similar it is extremely hard to tell the difference.
All tanz, zambian, and zaires have a mask instead of a eye stripe.

I had a kapampa the water was a bit cold or at least that's what the thermometer said. I set the heater and went to work. By the time I got home the kapampa was belly up and so other fish. I lowered the heater and a few made it. I then got rid of all the mbuna and other types. Just 1 month ago I set my aquarium up and got mbunas, peacock, and haps, so far so good and the thermometer is way off. Heater is set at 73 degrees heater does not even read 64 so got a new thermometer and the water sits at 82 degrees. Now I'm trying to get a 240 gallon tank and make it lake tangayika only and mostly frontosa fish. Love those fish

I'm new to aquariums, but I think I have a Kigoma but I'm not sure. It's got 7 stripes but there's no hump. It's also brown/tanish color with dark stripes...no visible blue. Currently about 3 inches long.

Great video my man, please tell me what is a good lighting system for fronts? I looked into the radion rx30, but I dont have that kind of cash. love them when the whites are sharp and the blues are electric. Most videos I see have so much blue that it washes out the white and the fronts dont look good.

Really cant say...I would go with a good Led light...some choose Beamswork because they are cheap but I'm not sure. I know Aqueon has the optibright..I'm thinking about trying one of those. May do a review in the near future.

Great video, have a question for you. what do you keep your PH at in your frontosa tank. and do you do something to bring it up? Mine is at 7.8 and thats with crushed coral bottom.

  • @Frontosa4life

    @Frontosa4life

    5 жыл бұрын

Good question,to me it seems like 7.8 range(mines is there too) is tough to get past. I would say limestone holey rock besides crushed coral could possibly help...I have also used lace rock in the past.

They seem to be ok with opposite types of africans. When you keep a colony is when you may have dominance issues with males competing for females.
