Today's video is about orchid hybridization, and in particular in the attempt in producing some winter blooming orchids using two wonderful parent species: Cattleya traianei as a seed pod parent, and Rhyncholaelia digbyana as pollen parent. I am explaining the reproductive anatomy of the orchid flower, how to choose the parent species, what goals to achieve in the hybridization process, and the pollination technique. True hybridization is between two different orchid species, whilst the pollination between two different varieties of orchids of the same species is a crossing: however the pollination technique is the same and of course you can get wonderful orchids also by pollination of different varieties of the same species, as well as through self-pollination (the pollination orchids using its own pollen, as the orchids are hermaphrodite plants).
