You did such a nice job filming I thought you had hired a camera man! I'm glad you explained that-I enjoyed your reflective talk, & I teared up a little. You do have so many blessings, a wonderful family, your health, and I am guessing an awesome church family, but I'm pretty sure you bring a lot of joy to a lot of people with your humor, wit, and creativity. Keep inspiring us to get out there & explore!

You are seriously a trooper man! Doing all that strenuous hiking consecutive days in a row really pushes you to the limits.A lot of 21-year-olds can’t even do what you do. I’ve never been to the north rim before but it was really nice to see through your camera. It does seem a lot greener than the other rims. When you were showing the old footage from 2013 and you went back to your current footage you really see the difference in the camera quality over the last five years. Anyways brother thanks for sharing your adventure and congratulations on completing all these grueling hikes

Weather can really make a break a hike like this! So much logistics goes into it. We have never been on the North Rim - much greener than the South Rim. No direct sunlight is good when hiking for so long. Awesome that you did that hike with Kayla - happy birthday to her! Fantastic accomplishment Randy, especially given you had just done a similar hike on the South Rim 3 days earlier. Hands down and hat off Sir!

Now that I did, I want to come back and do some hiking there . Unfortunately, I live in Germany, so not this easy, lots of planning and saving up required. Thank you so much for sharing the beauty. How much time do you figure filming it adds? And its great that you share your philosophy of "feed the spirit with nature " as I do... Wish I could still hike that much ! It was great when I could ! And maybe I will again, with the help of the Fuzzy one.

That's a great question. I'd say the filming in general adds about 10% to the time and 5% to increased distance. Obviously, easier to pull this off when I am alone, less exasperating my guests. Hope the health and hiking returns!

Yet another good hike video, thanks for all the info. I’ve been looking at the north rim, it looks great. I think the hike down and back in one go is perhaps a little too much for us. Do you use decent hiking shoes? Yours almost look like trainers...cheers.

The nice thing about this is you can go down as far as you feel comfortable (to still make the more difficult return) and it is all incredible. And yes, I've always preferred hiking in gym shoes. Thanks!

Hey Steven, that general rule holds pretty true. You can probably move a little quicker going down and the final stretch might take slightly over an hour/mile. Sorry, I should have noted my times, but it was a full day. Kind of sunrise to sunset - with about an extra hour on each end.

Hey Ed, thanks for the kind words! Man do I love the Grand Canyon. On both of these hikes I kept the camera gear very simple. I just used my compact Canon SX730HS with the built-in mic. For the tripod I attached the camera to my JOBE gorillapod. Nice and light and was able to put the whole contraption in my pocket. Hope you can get out there, my friend!

Randy, I knew there was something else I wanted to say, but didn't think of it until just the second I posted. Have you ever tried to figure how much you add to your hikes by walking back to retrieve your camera? It must be a bunch, though we're all grateful for all the footage we get to see.

We have 4 more units to visit in order to visit all 418 - Camp Nelson, Canaveral, Dry Tortugas and Big Cypress. About 43 people have ever visited all 400+ units. Next project - National parks of the world. Hahaha

Or add some great state parks! Start with one state and move on! My suggestion: start with one state on each coast, then move on; Utah in the west & Pa in the east (my home state). Coral Pink Sand Dunes would be good start in Utah & Hickory Run (the boulder field) & Ricketts Glen (waterfalls) won't disappoint you. Enjoy & stay safe until the trails reopen.
