    This process to take months of planning the final product is truly amazing. Thanks again to Lutron for helping with this video.

    So I understand the prewires goes to the top left of the window. Does this also apply to outside mount on frame, and outside mount above frame?

  • @TechWithBrett

    @TechWithBrett

    @RogerPhillips-yn8cf Great question. All of the shades have the motor and wire at the top left of the shade so if you are doing outside mount you could come 3" above the frame around where the top of the shade will be. The should allow you to then connect the wire and hide it. I haven't done this type but let me if you need measurements to help.

    Hey buddy I have another question, I know you said in the video you used a 16/2 gauge wire. But did you go with stranded or solid?

    Brett, this is a fantastic video. Man, I'm so happy for you and your family that you are in that new house. It looks absolutely gorgeous, bud. That must have been SO satisfying the first time you opened and closed those. Oh man. Hope you are doing extremely well, my man. Adios.

    I had a wired Serena shade over my patio sliding door. It worked flawlessly though I sold that house. The shades are HomeKit enabled, the wood shutters are not. Over time the shades need to be wiped off with a damp rag to clean them off and keep them operating silently. I had a HomeKit automation to open the blind at sunrise and close them at sunset. The blind has quite a bit of wire. You purchase the wall plug that clicks into the wire from the shade. Your electrician could probably shorten the length. Brett has taken it to the next level using the in wall power packs. It looks truly awesome! Serena even called after a while to get my opinion, which I told them we loved the shade. My only recommendation would be to make the wire shorter coming from the shade. Then have the option to buy the AC plug with longer or shorter length depending on what you need. I wish Serena would make a electric plantation shutter.

    Very cool and well planned. I bought Hunter Douglas silhouettes in our house because Lutron didn’t support our wider windows in the house. Cost a pretty penny but latest generation of PowerView works pretty well.

    Correct me if I am wrong, but are these shades powered by low voltage and then controlled over wireless? Do you know of any systems that also do control over low voltage?

  • @TechWithBrett

    @TechWithBrett

    Жыл бұрын

    Yes that is correct. The wire just provides the power and then the motors run on the RF Clear Connect system and that is how they connect to the hub. Doing my research I did hear about others running a Cat cable to each window that provided POE and the ethernet connection but I am not sure what system uses that.

    Some people say that if you have legal access to a copy of the material, keeping another copy on your NAS is okay, like SCOTUS. VHS and DVD wear out, so if you backup it format shift under fair use, you would be at the mercy of streaming.

    Where is the smart hub located? All wires go to the power supply, is the smart hub located next to the power supply?

  • @TechWithBrett

    @TechWithBrett

    Жыл бұрын

    Great question. The Smart Hub just need to be plugged into the wireless router wherever that is located. The wires from the power panel just proved power. The shade is what sends and receive the clear connect signal that connects to the hub. In my case it is just on the other side of the room from the power panel.

    So all the remote controls work on WiFi, not infra-red?

  • @TechWithBrett

    @TechWithBrett

    Жыл бұрын

    Actually none of it uses Wifi. "Instead, it plugs right into your router and speaks to all of your Caséta devices using Clear Connect®, Lutron’s patented wireless technology. Clear Connect works on a different frequency so it’s not dependent on the speed of your Wi-Fi network." www.casetawireless.com/us/en/caseta-advantage/smart-hub-advantage

    Correct, no wifi. Not infrared either. The control is via radio frequency (RF). "Clear Connect" is just their marketing term for RF, and it's at 868 MHz, limited 868 MHz, or 865 MHz FM.

    Say it is 20 windows x $500 per each window. Yes, $10k is a good chunk of money but very small to a new house build that might be $500k-$1M+. Pretty easy to justify in that context, especially considering that part of having a new custom home is the all the small luxuries you can put in to have a nice place. These things will work for decades to come.
