The reason it works so well is cause they use a proprietary 484mhz communication band and language. Highly tweaked and optimized so no interference from any other wireless or EM source and very efficient. For instance the wireless pico wall stations uses a normal pancake battery and lasts 7+ years! That also includes their new motion sensors. Plus they built their stuff with super high end parts. The build quality statement is very true.

I used to work at a major home improvement store in the electrical department, and a customer asked me a question about a Lutron switch. I didn't know the answer, so I suggested calling the 800 number on the package. She did, they answered her question, and she bought the product. Lutron really does have 24/7 customer service with a live person. I use a Lutron dimmer for my LED kitchen can lights, and it works great.

It’s worth noting that Lutron’s Serena shades come with a five year warranty. Over the years, we’ve had trouble with three of our shades. In each case, Lutron reviewed a video of what the shade was doing and sent us a replacement. Also, Lutron’s support is second to none. For both switches and shades, they provide excellent wiring/programming documentation online and have 24/7 phone support.

I went with some of the Caseta in-wall dimmers due to the fact they didn't require neutral wires. We have an older home and some of the switch boxes don't have neutral wires where some of the more recently (within the last 10 years or so) re-wired when renovating do have the neutral wires. I didn't realize this until after I had purchased some Kasa switches and dimmers. I actually really like the Caseta dimmers when comparing to the Kasa switches I have. Very reliable, and even replaced a set of 3-way switches with one in-wall dimmers and a pico remote. That was a VERY easy install. I went the eBay route when buying my starter kit and switches, though, which saved a lot of money.

We just moved into a historic home (101 years old) and Lutron has been a life saver because of the auto sensing line and load on top of not needing a neutral wire. I bought over 100 of them and my wallet definitely felt it but I see it as a necessity. A few places in our house I went to zigbee devices because of a different need on those locations and also we have a detached garage in the back of the property that I use WiFi devices in because I cannot get any other signals back there. In old homes, Lutron is a no brainer.

Lutron is dope! Wish I had Serena shades but with 70up wide windows would spend a fortune. Instead we went with mysmartblinds roller shades (tilt) but I know for a fact that Lutron be way more reliable. But in terms of light switches I can easily say they are the best. For many spending extra for a bridge would be a con but long term that's the way to go, especially if someone wants to invest and replace most of the switches to something smart.

I don't recall the last time I issued a command and it didn't work and none of my switches have failed. We watched your videos, did a lot of research and considerations and eventually decided to use Caseta as the major and few others to support since Caseta does not have everything we need. They are so expensive but indeed more robust especially in installation. Other than that, we also use TP link for outdoor plugs and switch and Treatlife for fan/light. TP Link's app is really easy to use and robust, but the physical switch is kind of squeaky. Wyze's automation is a hit or miss.

I heard a rumor Phillips came out with a new inwall switch now so we can control our Fans or other items :)) big-time happy. So in other words it goes in-wall behind your switch to make it on/off remotely with Phillips ecosystem.

Hello, Im almost sold on lutron. One quick question is there any 3in1 switch? I want to control 3 lights independently with a single wall hole, 1gang size. All I can find are wifi but I want to use one with hub for the speed and offline control. I dont like nor want to make those 4 gangs wide switches.

Are there pico like remotes for wifi switches like TP-Link Kasa? -- I know this might not be the place to ask, but I've been looking everywhere and haven't found any options that are like certified/safe so was just hoping someone had an answer? (Other than lutron, just don't really know how I feel about how their buttons look)

I've imported a lutron starter pack to try out and had a problem with "ghosting" (when the lights are off I still see a faint glow). Have you experience this issue in your house? Any tips that can help me? And yes the bulbs are dimmable. Thanks a lot!

Just found myself starting to change my cheaper Gosund smart switches ( which worked completely fine ) to Leviton light switches which are a more pricey. I did it more for the astethics (they match regular light switches) than function. Any thoughts on Leviton smart switches compared to lutron?

  • @SmartHomeSolver

I haven't tried out Leviton switches myself. Somehow I missed them when I did that big comparison. I've had a lot of people say they like them and I also like the look of a regular light switch to blend in better.

@@SmartHomeSolver I'm running a mix of Z-Wave Leviton switches and just added some Lutron. My house is older and that has made Leviton's need for a neutral wire harder in spots. But it can give you a true three way wired setup vs Pico remotes in place of physical switches. Every now and again I've had issues generally after power glitches where a Leviton switch needs to have its service disconnect pulled to reboot it before it will work again. I'm planning on adding whole house surge suppression and I'm hoping that will help with that issue.

wi-Fi is never the way to go imo, even if you have the ideal network with hardwired APs every few rooms or so, you’re just adding unnecessary load, and points of failiure. For example, if you change your Wi-Fi password, all of your Wi-Fi smart home devices are going to go crazy until you reset them etc. Better to just go with a bridge setup, with Hue and Lutron, the bridges use Ethernet, so no fiddling with that, and no additional load on your network.

We just moved and we have a kitchen light switch that is in an inconvenient place. It’s on the opposite side of the room from where you enter. I don’t want to pay an electrician to move the light. Is there a way to use a smart switch to get a switch near the entrance?

  • @GreeniusGenius

    @GreeniusGenius

Yes, so with Lutron for example, you would setup the main switch where your existing switch is, in the inconvenient location, and then mount a Pico remote by the door, and then just link them together.

I work on high end homes. The default is always Lutron, generally RA3 now. Quite expensive but quite a reliable and powerful system. I was speaking to my electrician friend that does the installs as I'm doing my own home reno. He said he often goes into houses to replace budget smart home products and replaces them with Lutron. So therefore, I'm on the Lutron bandwagon because I don't like problems. For example, bought a Hue bridge and it would just not connect to my router. Lutron's: easy peasy.

I installed Lutron Caseta switches with the hub at our home in Ontario and loved them. I get up super early and was able to set up scenes as I walked around getting ready for my days. I am in the process of installing more of them in our new house in Alberta. Since I had the hub already, I was "in-bed" with Lutron already. So, I just continued. We have 3-way and 4-way switches in the new house. I am about $2k into switches and remotes already. Oh well...

I first purchased a refoss garage opener, the meross app was super ez to setup and use, then I got some smart plugs and added to the app, and now I have all the main light switches from meross, zero issues and super reliable. I know Lutron is the high end stuff, but it cost like 3 times more and I kinda wanna stick to only using a single app to control everything.
