That vertical tip (pause) is probably the best suggestion in my opinion
The knee over toe tip is a good one
Subbed, nice to meet you man.. I'm almost 40 and live in Oklahoma. Great kickflip tutorial.. that knee part is crucial
Thank you Rob, this trick tip seriously unlocked my understanding of the flick !!
Holding up to the knee and rotating the flip trick of vertical and creativity!

Perfect tips! thanks rob
FR that tip with the knee helped so much tysm keep the good work 🔥
It’s a good day when coyote rob posts a vid
this rly helped so much underrated af
one thing tht messed me up is trying to get all of the flick movement in the foot, when a lot of the movement is generated at the hip
hey can you make a tutorial for backside 180? i dont understand the trick very well
I dunno man I can kickflip pretty well and getting foot placement right is what unlocked it for me. your foot placement is going to be tailored to your particular timing/reflexes. i used to keep my flick foot closer to the edge of the board, bc i was so focused on just making sure the board flipped, but this meant i flicked earlier so they were very low and mildly rocketed. moving flick foot basically to where i normally ollie, once i was confident about how to flick and flip the board, drastically improved my form so that I was catching the board and getting close to normal ollie height.

This also has the effect of making you kick "through" the board and leveling out just because of the angle your foot has to travel to flick - the first pressure is towards the upper middle of the board
Getting board vertical is new tip. If it helps, I owe you a coffee.
another tip, put 80% of your weight to your front foot, the back foot is only there to pop, not to hold your weight

@@samuraiman7777 I put more weight on my front foot on kickflips too. Not sure if it's 80% but definitely more than the back. It makes sure my knee is in front of my flick and the board stays below me once I'm about to catch
How do you make sure your knee is in front of the board? Like should you be looking at a certain point or? Thanks
Do you have any advice for my bad habit of kicking the board in front of my moving direction. It levels out and stick to my flick foot really well, but since it's forward so I couldn't land with my backfoot.

sounds like you are one step away from a decent boned kickflip. try bringing your back foot up to your pelvis, like a hacky sack kick to your front thigh or a flying karate kick. after i tried this out for a while it kinda snaps into my feet nicely and i can bring them back down underneath me.
Remember to bring back knee up too :p !

hi rOb
It took me YEARS to kickflip and just as many years to learn what he's talking about here. All the people making trick tips claiming, "you just kind of like flick somewhere in the pocket, derrr" have done so much damage to skateboarding. What I figured out finally by watching people who knew how to kickflip well frame by frame was that you need to get the board into a 45 degree angle with the pop... then your knee leads straight out in front of the board at an angle parallel to the ground. Then by kicking out you level the board out and flip it at the same time. It helps me to have my toe pointed forward as much as possible too, you can't just flick off to the side like so many dumb tutorials tell you to... it has to be really straight... that the only way you'll ever get consistent at staying over the board, and able to predictably flip into tricks.

I agree with the bad advice impacting skateboarding bit. Too many turorials do the same shit and lack going into depth or explaining tricks properly. It's channels like Robs, Local Joe, and Dan Corrigan that really stand out imo because they analyse skateboarding and explain concepts.
