How to Handle Fey Bargains? Basically Feywiild, ep.5

Ойындар

Basically Feywild, Episode 5
The main reason why we want to have the Fey in our games is the fact, that they break reality. They don't need to oblige to all the rules that govern us, mere mortals. We, the DMs love the fact that with a simple trick we can simply re-shape immutable parts of the world, and our players... well, the crazier it gets, the better, right? A deal with the Fey can be pure chaos!
In folklore tales you can often find a warning: NEVER talk to fey. It's to risky.
In this episode I will talk about different types of contracts that you can strike with a Feywild creature. We'll go through different types of contracts, talk a bit about who can propose a deal, how other deals are made in 5e and in the second part of the video - we'll also take a look at several examples of contracts and language traps that could constitute a contract.
Chapters for this episode are outlined below in the description.

What is Basically Feywild?
In this series you'll find regular, bite-sized chunks of knowledge about the fey. Where is the Feywild? Or when is it? Are pixies and hags relatives? Is a bargain with the Fey a good decision? How to use your own folklore to create Fey that will be unique to your game?
Fair warning: This is fan content. We're not going to be canonical here. This series is meant to inspire you and give you ideas on how you can incorporate this Wonderland into your game. This is not an official rules rehearsal :)
Feywild is a plane in the D&D multiverse, but I see it as a universal land of the strange and uncanny, so disregarding if you are a player or a GM, you might find this series interesting.
Hi, I am Timor Sol, and I create stuff for TTRPG, especially for D&D 5e. I have a strong passion for both learning and sharing, and since there's a need for Feywild content - here I am. I've read dozens of books on the Fey, from earlier edition books, through monster compendiums and bestiaries, and ending on the unofficial fan-content and 'simple' common literature. And now I want to share. I'm going to start with basics and guide you towards the more interesting, crazy parts of the Feywild. Just don't go crazy ;)

That is such a great book! In all honesty it might be the best Fey-intrigue or simply court-intrigue book I've seen/read. Also, the images, the layout... Everything's top notch!

Awesome video! I appreciate how you didn’t just say Fey should deceive you into making bargains with hidden consequences and you have to be careful what you say as their sense of morality is different than yours, but you actually went through the effort of providing examples of what those bargains might be and how a Fey might actually trick you into a deal without you knowing.

Would a Fey noble be able to grant a Kenku with the gift of original thought, or would that have to be an archfey? As you may know the Kenku were cursed to not have there own voice, no wings, and there ability to have original thought. Could fey give a kenku the gift of original thought?
