Excellent video. Theres a lot of videos on Mangroves but not many people actually talk about how to care for them. I just bought 2 and have them in my hang on back refugium. They are not doing the best. I'm not sure if their grow light hits them sufficiently but I don't have any other way to get the light above them (it's more off to the side). I surley get spill over from my AI Prime on my main tank. The grow light is a 5W that is aboveish them and a Chaeto ball that, is doing lovley that I run at night. One thing I did not know was about spraying the leaves. I will start to do that. Hopefully it helps them. I know they have plenty of Nitrates and Phosphates and have the perfect substrate. 🤞🏻 Hoping they bounce back after regular daily leaf spraying.

As much as i want this tree, after some research i gave up to have one. It seems a 4inch deep soil is the minimum depth. But then after few years it will need more soil than 4' and will outgrow the tank.

Wow, a specialist with one stem and 5 leaves dropping some knowledge bombs on this one! Listen son, I had one unfortunate Mangrove forgotten stale and bone dry for 10 years not growing or shedding a leaf. Then I popped the pot into my freshwater tank and plant just exploded. I gets fuck all light, it extends beyond my 18W florescent tube, so don't make it a bigger deal than it is. I never sprayed it, ok maybe once, because it had thick layer of dust on it. It's a hardy plant and will grow practically everywhere.

Yep, I think it’s a myth that they need saltwater to grow. Mine has grown very healthily on freshwater alone, and I also haven’t sprayed it a single time so far. A very hardy plant indeed. All mine seems to need is lots of water and sun.

because usual freshwater climates have cold winters where they wont survive and they easily reproduce in brackish water but in freshwater they have to do less salt filtering so they grow much bigger, from personal experience they grow amazing in freshwater

that's not a red mangrove, red mangroves don't excrete salt through their leaves, it's impossible. Their roots prevents salt intake. That's a different species or the mist from your aquarium may have deposited it their by error. Either way it's not a red mangrove.

They are able to as they have specific glands, the transporter molecules move the ions out of the tissues between the veins and salt glands into tunnels between cells. When sodium and chloride reach the salt gland, the tunnels function as one-way streets, moving the ions into the gland then secrete it out onto the surface of the leaf.
