Your videos are incredibly informative. Each one is a "how to" guide from start to finish. Gardening For Dummies... Precisely what a total newbie (such as myself) needs to be inspired, motivated and well informed. Because of you, I have pushed past my intimidation and prepared my pots for mini peppers, chilli's and cherry tomatoes. I even have grand ideas for building raised beds (next year) and growing blueberries... Although, I have yet to learn about varieties. Thank you for all the quality content you push out. I'm so glad I found you!

Thanks for the video. My grandfather grew many, many fig trees n NY when I was growing up. He always wrapped them in cardboard (or whatever was at hand) and filled the centers with dead leaves to overwinter. We had figs, figs and more figs growing up and took them for granted and did not appreciate them. Now I miss them terribly. I am in zone 3-4 and would like to find a variety to try. But I will wrap and insulate them like he did. Our yard was filled with enormous fig trees.

At least 20+ feet across maybe 7ft high. It sits in full sun only gets shade when the sun goes down, it actually creates its own shade my dogs relax next to it when they're outside.

That's awesome! Every time we plant trees, we wind up moving just as they're getting big. So this year I was like, "I ain't planting another tree for someone else!" ;'D and I bought a bunch and put them in containers. Obviously those can only get so big, but at least I can take them with me! Anyway, I had no idea that figs spread like that horizontally. I'm glad you shared that! How many figs you think you get off that bad boy? Probably more than you can eat, right?

The figs on her tree were not ready but tried another one on a newly planted tree were mildly sweet and pretty delightful

This is what I do in zone 6b. The figs are in 5 gal fabric pots. I cut slits around the sides of of the pot. “ see Lou Monti method “ dig a hole and drop the pot in and fill around the edges with soil. I double up heavy black landscaping material and place around the plant. Then I cover that with a 2 foot square of bricks. The heat from the sun heats up the bricks and landscape material keeping them warmer. Heat is what your looking for to get that fig tree growing. At the end of the season, I dig around the pot with a machete, cut the roots that formed outside the pot and pull up the pot and store it for winter. Use will get a larger more productive tree then in pots alone and you won’t need to fertile as much or water.

Thank you for always putting useful information on your channel. I do have a question, once established do you use fruit tree fertilizer or a 10-10-10? Also, I heard that figs (the fruit) only grow on newly grown stems so you need to trim them, how accurate is that?

Question: we have a very mature fig ( green with pink inside) it is very tall and huge trunk. We trim it down to single story house height every year. Can we trim it even further without killing it? It grows exponentially every year. The thing is out of control. This year, very little fruit is ripening. I think because there is so much foliage. We are in NW Oregon . Thanks for any help!

I just acquired a fig tree last year - the poor thing only had about 7 leaves on it. I went into a site to figure (pardon that play on words there?) lol how to best protect it from the winter. I guess I did alright because this year alone I counted 27 new sprouting buds which are now leaves and stems and I'm so excited about it! I name my plants - and since I love and have cats, I named it Figaro, which was the little black and white kitty in Pinocchio. Well Figaro is doing so well and now I've learned even more about Figaro from your splendid video! I'm very much looking forward to watching and learning more! Thank you!! PS. I checked out our zone and it said 6b, so I guess we're good!

Just purchased a Chicago fig. And after listening to you wondered if you have any thoughts on zone 5b care of the tree ? Do i need to bring it in for the winter? Garage or house? And i am planting in a large container. Thank you.

Great video! I have a fig tree from a stem we brought from my in-laws house in Italy...in Italy they produce tennis ball size figs...here not so much while the tree grows really large the figs only bud and that’s it...we live in zone 6a so rich soil, fertilizer every three months and plenty of water?? any other tips for my zone or to help produce bigger figs? Thank you for sharing! 🌱

Placed a fig tree in my yard 2 years ago, this year I have some fruit and the plant is only about 2 ft tall. I think it took a year to acclimate to the southEast Wisc. Climate. Really looking to 2024s growth for huge growth. Thank you for this video.

PS - last year my lawn care guy mowed over it thinking it shouldn't be there. Hense, got a new guy.

Did you say which side of the shed it was on? I understood about varying amounts of light conditions, but I'm wondering if the southern side would be better for cases of winter survival

I saw you videos after I bought and planted my shrubs (Choke berry & June berry) I put fertilizer around and under them. Is there something I can do to encourage the roots to grow and spread?

How come u said prune them, so they will branch out widely. How can that be if you are planting to plant plants around it? are you planning to go vertical?

How close is too close to plant a fig tree to the house? I've read that their root system can be disruptive and they should be planted too close to the house. Thanks!

I am wondering if I don’t prune my fig tree (allow new branches)., will I get a lot less fruit because the energy will be going into making the branches instead of fruit? Thank you!

Fig cuttings root very easy, FYI. My fig is now setting fruit zone 9. Trifecta is used here also. Dianne Gleaton
