    This was so helpful, thank you! I've watched so many videos where people have made it so complicated and keep saying how difficult Cucamelons are to grow that I've been so hesitated to try it. After some failed attempts at the more complicated ways of getting them to germinate I will try what you said. Simply plant several in a tub and transplant the strongest few once big enough. xx

    I myself use multipurpose potting soil (tip: don't go for the cheapest one) and mix it with a good compost.70/30 is my ratio for these particular plants. Every week or two weeks - depending on how fast they grow and how big they are becoming - I'll add some liquid bio tomato fertilizer with their water (follow the instructions on the bottle). Cheers.

    Hi! I ve bought a packet with 20 seeds, but now I noticed that a single seed can spring around five stems from it. I can hardly manage to arrange all of them not to choke each other. What about prunning them? Or cutting some of the stems? Have you practiced prunning of left them grow freely? Thanks

  • @cityvegetablegardener2638

    @cityvegetablegardener2638

    3 жыл бұрын

    Hi, I’ve always let them grow freely. I think they’d take a trim as they are resilient plants. If you have so many you might as well spread them in a few areas. They are quite invasive though over the summer period only. The plants will be fine with each other but they might choke some other smaller plants.

    I had to pollinate mine, which is very difficult with the tiny little flowers and plants, without braking the little fruit off the stem. Are there some that needs pollination and some that don't? It doesn't say anything on the seed package, but if I don't pollinate, the little fruit just fall off and die.

    Wasalam, So, the fertilisers I use are a little bit of Manure or chicken pellets under each plant and then every week or two I give tomato feed or miracle grow and that's it. I think it's important also to let old vegetables and plants rot in the garden soil over winter to improve and enrich your soil over the long term. Sorry for the late reply. I didn't get any alerts from youtube.

    It all depends on where you live. Here in Western Europe (Belgium) it's no sooner than mid April to transfer them into your yard, as in April the weather tends to still be very moody, too moody for young delicate plants to survive and/or stay healthy. I myself place them under cut off 5L (transparent) plastic containers. I remove the bottom of the bottle, remove the cap and simply place it over the young plant until weather gets more stable. This is usually around the end of April, but before that I sometimes I remove the containers during daytime. When the weather is nice and there's a lot of sun, off goes the container (you don't want to cook your plants). When the weather acts like a bitch (excuse my language): on goes the container. During nighttime I leave the container on, as the temperatures here in April still drops a bit too low for cuca's liking (7 degrees Celsius and lower at night here, a bit too chilly for these young plants). Cheers.

    @@porschaliverpool9476 They should taste like a cucumber with a little hint of lemon behind it. If they have a bitter taste - which I'm assuming is what you were tasting - it means you waited too long to pick them. Don't wait until they grow too big. 2,5 to 3cm is ideal. Any larger and their taste starts to change, as well as their skin getting thicker. Did you know that, the more often you pick them, the more fruits the plant will produce? It's the plant's survival "instinct" to make sure enough seeds drop to the ground. Cheers.

    HI, Thanks for the million questions lol I'll try my best to answer them all. 1. They are self-pollinating 2. not frost resistant so they'll die over winter. 3. They are unlikely to be eaten by other animals. I haven't experienced it myself. 4. They are annuals. 5. Sow them in spring to get fruits in summer, yes. 6. Yes, I still have seeds. If you could email me on m.abdulaziz@gmail.com and I can arrange postage to Ireland. 7. They don't really need a very big pot. I have grown them in a 5-litre pot. In a 30 litre pot, you could grow 3/4. They need climbing space more than anything else. I hope this helps. If you have any more questions please ask!

    I'm sorry, but you don't say any specific about how to grow them: Soil Ph, soil and air temperature, humidity etc. I have 5 plants with hundreds of flowers, and they just fall off, no fruits at all.

    How long ago did you sow them? They can take over 2 weeks to germinate.
