How To Grow A Mango Tree From Seed - 44 Months
I know it has been FOREVER since my last update. I have had several setbacks since November 2019 on this tree but it finally looks as though it could actually make it!
As an FYI, I had been asked by several viewers to start a Mango Tree from Seed Series and since I love growing from seed, I figured I may as well give it a go! In this video, I will provide you with an update on the one started on 7/21/18.
This update marks it's 44+ Month Point.
I do plan on keeping you updated on the seedlings progress from now until it either perishes or flourishes into a fruit-producing tree.

Your updates always give me a sense of meaning in life (struggling with suicidal thoughts). and I know it’s weird to say that. But just watching you grow all these beautiful trees over the years and also you getting older too. there is something about that just make me appreciate life more. Thank you so much for giving your time to make these videos :)

I have an avocado tree I grew from seed that's 46 months old now and your mango story sounds like mine with my avocado. It's finally starting to have multiple strong growing branches after fighting some sort of fungus every year and coming out on top this past fall. Hopefully we both end up with fruit eventually!

I like your patience in saving and keeping the mango plant... alive and not give up! First, the plant is tropical and itself has a hard time to adjust to unfamiliar environments. If we give it the time to survive in unknown surroundings, I believe it will give us a lot of joy to watch and discover...!

I think mango from seeds are just finicky like that, I started one ten months ago that was doing awesome. I brought it inside for a week and it lost all its leaves, then later when I repotted it lost all its leaves, then it had a bunch of growth so I pruned and it lost all its leaves. But having said that it is by far my favorite plant, it’s like a child to me now

What if you tried planting it in an air-pruning pot to help the soil remain more even with watering and drying? It may also promote a better root system to support the top growth. And I would add IV Organics to the potting mix to help the roots be healthier. That should help the mango feel better and handle changes better!

I love your mango series! I’m currently growing a mango by following your videos and they’re about 20 days old and sprouting! I have a question, my mango tree is in my room and doesn’t get much direct sunlight from my window since it faces Northwest, I don’t have any plant lights, will he (I’ve named him Bob) be okay? Or should I move him to a sunnier spot? ❤️

Rob, are the mangoes supposed to be in direct sunlight or indirect? I have 2 that I planted from seed back in June 2020 and they’ve only grown about 12-14 inches. The 12 inch one has grown sideways instead of straight up, and it’s started to lose a lot of its big leaves recently. I don’t know why. I had brought it in during our “winter” here in Florida but now it’s somewhat warm. The other one has a few bad leaves, brown or spotted and is sprouting new roots on the side

  • @RobBackyardGardenerr

Mango trees require full sun, meaning at least eight hours of direct sunlight on most days. Their flower and fruit production will suffer if they don't get enough light. That being said, young trees are mmore vulnerable and may require some indirect sunlight until they mature a bit.

I just started this project a month ago with the numerous mango seeds I ate from a box in a span of 2 weeks. There were 14 in a box. Right now, I'm on the final stage (5 more days) of transplanting the last 5 germinated seeds on a 20 gal tub. There are roots, but no leaves on any of them. Surprisingly, all 14 seeds germinated. Some slow, others at regular pace. Those that have been transplanted have shown no progress of growth but it's only been 7 days. I live out in the west coast. It's warm this week but very disappointed with the weather a month earlier due it being in the mid to lower 60s F. Sunny but cold wind. Regarding your mango tree, my understanding with plants is they don't like to be moved. So I would buy some cheap plastic or wooden sticks from home depot and build a quick, small scaffold like structure and lay a plastic transparent or translucent sheet over it for the winter to shield it from the snow while letting the light in. Nothing fancy, just enough to get through the season and easy enough to remove for the rest of the season.

@@alfrancis8 About 95% of them started growing to about 6 inches. Some took two weeks. Others 1 to 2 months oddly. Unfortunately, an unexpected fog started happening and it lasted for 2 months that lead to disease spreading to all the mango plants and killed most of them. The rest that survived didn't make the wet and cold winter. I'm willing to try again since I enjoy these plants. If you live in a warmer area where there's hardly fog, go for it. I recommend you try at least five so you can pick the best one to focus on. Good luck.
