Always good when you just moved into somewhere to buy ingredients for your cupboard/freezer that are versatile and don't really go off that quickly. So dried pasta, rice, herbs and spices, canned veg, jars of pasta sauce, frozen veg etc. It's costly up front but good to have to hand and it cuts costs in the long run as you're not reliant on fresh produce for every meal (a can of chopped tomatoes, some frozen/canned sweetcorn, basil and oregano, some dried pasta = quick, cheap, healthy dinner). Plus Tupperware that can go into the freezer, so there's a supply of leftovers when you're tired or in a rush

this was SO helpful!! i just transferred and am living on my own with no meal plan for the first time. can you show your favorite single serving meals or favorite meals that are larger to have leftovers of but don't go bad quickly. for example, i love my mom's bolognese recipe and i can make a huge quantity without it going bad for a bit. it's a few hours of cooking and then im set for dinner for a week +. i'd love to see if you have any recipes like that or single serving ideas too! cooking for one can be hard

If you have a big enough freezer, you can freeze uncooked meats for another time, so you can stock up if there's a good selection or you're planning on hosting a dinner party in the near future (I find meat is the priciest bit of my grocery shop so aware that stocking up on meat isn't in everyone's budgets, especially as meats don't really have deals unless the meat is about to expire in the next day or so). The only thing to consider is that the meat should be thawed as much as possible before you cook it so that it is cooked through properly, and once thawed you can't refreeze it.

Caroline, let me put you on girl: marinate cubed up chicken in soy sauce, get a bag of frozen stir fry veggies, cook it all up with some pepper, garlic powder, chili flakes and serve over white rice or pad thai noodles. SO delicious and super easy!!!!!
