How To Get Your First Software Engineer Job After College/Bootcamp

This is everything that you need to know to get your first software engineer job after graduating from college or finishing bootcamp. My first job after I graduated from college was as a software engineer at Google, and I've helped tons of other college/bootcamp graduates land their dream job after graduating, too. I'll go over how to make a strong software engineering resume, how to get job interview offers from companies you're interested in, and how to prep and succeed at the technical interviews.

In my experience, even if we have the best resumes, this doesn't always lead to getting an interview. The best way to land an interview is through connections and referrals.

@@onurislak That's what I mean by CVs don't get you interviews, people do. Yes, we should differentiate ourselves as much as we can in the resume (which is hard due to the format), but still you have to go out there and meet folks who are where we want to be. Once we are referred, we can differentiate ourselves through how we talk to people.

Why do people keep recommending only big tech or startup jobs like mid-level established companies aren't hiring. Of course you won't get any super big fancy salaries/perks and they don't always follow the latest trends, but the work is usually stable and can pay well. FAANG and startups aren't the only companies that exist. Insurance companies, banks, utility companies, oil companies, etc. need software engineers too.

100% possible, going cc then full university is the same as doing 4 years at a university. You’ll still get the degree from the last place you went to. My advice would be do all your gen credits at cc cuz those have a better chance of transferring, then once you transfer do 2 years focused totally on your major. I’m doing this right now.

  • @Sagaji_

I'd make sure the school I'm transferring to even allows transfers into the CS program, or how impacted it is there. At my university (when I was still a student lol), you couldn't just transfer in from a CC, you'd have to come in as a different major/undeclared and then apply in. If you didnt have a 3.8+, you didnt have a competitive chance at getting in.

Even if you arent able to handle it, you will gain valuable experience in a fast paced environment and get hands on experience in making projects by yourself. Plus you will meet like minded people. It is very daunting, but you arent alone in that experience. If you're passionate and want proper direction then go for it dude!
