    You are awesome Nate , just bought a 2005 Mustang convertible with 88,000 miles and a 4.0 v6. Love this car. Didn't buy it for the gas mileage since I only drive 44 miles round trip for work. Bought it because I wanted a Mustang since I was 16 in drivers ed in high school. That was 44 years ago, now I finally have one!! Mustangs rule!!! Really like yours, sweet ride.

    @@nef003 When you roll in neutral your actually getting worse gas mileage than if you leave it in gear and engine break.. you use no fuel at all when you're in gear and foot off the gas.. you throw it in neutral and your fuel injectors kick back on and keep the engine running at idle which is burning fuel.. Just keep it in gear at all times like a normal person would and you will notice a difference in your mpg..

    @@erito23gamingpower99 Modern automatics have their own ECMs. They learn over time to work better based on your driving style. Supposedly automated manuals are even better as they are now the most popular for semi trucks. The better models are tough for an expert shifter to compete against with a standard manual.

    Lighter rims and low roll resistance tires might hrlp more than dumping the spare. However quality tires are so durable and bad roads easy enough to avoid it seems pointless to carry a spare anymore. Except when you want to drive where you'd rather avoid any risk of a very high tow bill.

I have a 2018 Honda Accord 10 speed automatic. And it’s the 2.0T and I get 35 mpg on the highway. My rpm stays at 1200 rpm to 1500 rpm cruising 50-60 mph.

    Low gear ratios are good for city driving as well, low gear and if you are easy on the throttle, the less strain the engine has to turn as well. Being in North Carolina, most of the gas stations here contain 10% ethanol fuel. I prefer to get the ethanol free gas in 93 octane myself. I just had the 4.10 gear swap done and noticed it has maintained 23 mpg on the highway and about 18 in the city.

We found a pristine red pony package (his fav color) for 3k that was a trade in and he loved how mustangs handles on the highway from driving mine. But I agree with if you're trying to get into performance that you need to expect to pay a little more for fuel. HP has to come from somewhere, right? More air, more fuel, more POWER!

    @@morebrainmoregains3234 he does a LOT of highway driving and that helps a ton. Other than that, little stuff. A mild MPG tune, slower throttle response, thermostat and housing, slightly more aggressive gear engaging/ earlier gear engaging, torque converter lock up earlier and on decel, taller rear end, MPG engineered tires as well. We are looking into doing fiberglass hood and trunk to lighten it up possibly in the future sometime, maybe after market lightweight rims, but money is an object so in due time

    Get a permit and make your own ethanol. Or order it shipped. Less energy than gasoline but cost difference is more. Be wary that it attracts water from the atmosphere which corrodes every bit of metal that it touches. You have to be sure of how to guard againstts it. I am not. Engineering Explained did a video on this and mentioned after running on pure ethanol there was a higher water content in the oil. That must be protected against then one can enjoy a cleaner running and longer lasting vehicle.

    My 09 gt/cs gets about 23mpg. 3.55 gear ratio, cold air intake with 91 octane performance tune (no 93 octane is Oregon). Nothing crazy for performance mods yet. If you use it as a daily driver and complain about gas milage, use 3.55 gears. Best way to increase mpg. Then go nuts with mods when it becomes your weekend warrior. Btw, the average mpg calculator in the car is crap. Only accurate way to measure mpg is dividing trip miles to gallons filled.

I also don't have the little screen displaying mpg and the buttons for info and stuff are blank in my car... I've been noticing this a bit more but still no clue as to why. Someone inform me? :D Edit: It appears to be the fact that my car is not the performance package :P

I end up filling my tank just about every 5 to 7 days due to the fact I drive her nearly 2 hours a day on weekdays. It's hard for me to not lead-foot my Stang to 3k RPMs sometimes due to the fact my dual Pypes exhaust makes this satisfying wistle sound at that point. • @NateRider

    @NateRider

    6 жыл бұрын

    no, high gear ratio's are the worse for gas mileage. The higher your gear ratio is, the more the driveshaft has to turn for your wheel to turn once. I have 4.10 gears, so the driveshaft has to turn 4.1 times for my wheels to turn once. That increases your rpms and makes your engine work a lot more

  • @waynebollentin989

    Nate Rider it most cases this is true. But it really comes down to the set up of the car or truck. Tire size, weight, power band of motor. If you have a heavy car with a tall tire and say 3.08 gear or lower going to say 3.55 your gas mileage will be better because the motor won't work as hard. It always comes down to the set up of a car and what your trying to accomplish. You are giving a good rule of thumb. Great all around gear is 3.55 but It still comes down to your application and trans.

    Your giving bs info showing the mpg avg. I know what your doing and your trying to trick people thinking your get over 40mpg. Your foot wasn't on the gas there for no load on the motor. That's why you showed that mileage. Once you have load on the motor it goes down. I have a problem with a few other things but I dont want to beat you up. I know your trying to help people but you need to learn little more on your subjects your doing first. Good luck
