I’m really confused. I admit i haven’t watched the whole video yet but now are we supposed to build the bridge? Where do we go to get these new qualifications? So say we had a levels in languages, but we later decide we want to work in medicine, how and where would we actually get the qualifications to become a doctor? I’m 14 btw :).

I started a couple of weeks ago and I am learning so much and the workplace atmosphere is friendly and happy. The management is significantly better than my previous job, it makes all the difference in the world.

This is great advice for career transition. A wonderful way to take a peek at other options is to job shadow someone in the role you wish to target. This approach is often really attainable in larger companies. The connection and line of sight to the role is great to get the job seeker setup with really meaningful questions for informational interviews.

A simple formula. A few weeks ago I told my subscribers how to know if it is time to change careers or just a venue in the one you have. So now you know you have to change careers completely. What do you do? How do you decide? In a nutshell I advised to first list all sectors of work fields. IE Medical, social work, law enforcement, business, technology, trades. That gives you the general interest of where you want to be. For example--all business for me is out. BUT, you may love the art of the deal. Then you list the jobs in that sector. IE trades ---electrician plumber mechanic. Business--marketing, finance, stockbroker. Medical--nurse, doctor, physical therapist. This seems simple but it works. You just narrow down sector then narrow down all jobs in that sector. Then you make your plan how to get there. Most people when they want to change careers just go into panic mode. The formula above makes it simple and stress free to see what you want to do next for forty hours a week. Hope this helps---Charles

Hi Linda, I’ve really enjoyed watching your videos and appreciate the great content. I’ve been in the insurance industry for 10 years (salesman 3yrs, client support analyst 6yrs, business analyst 1yr) and have always wondered if my lack of a university degree has kept me from progressing/advancing (and ultimately stuck in the $50-60K salary range). I completed a 3 year BA program in 2010 but did not meet the minimum GPA requirements to graduate. How much weight does an interviewer actually place on education for an applicant who has 10 years experience in the corporate world? I would appreciate any insight/advice you could offer. Thank you.

i am from a biology research background and want to switch to IT/data science....but I don't want to spend time and money going back to school for education...this frustrates me and I don't know if this change will be even possible seeing how extremely picky employers are nowadays :(

For your field of choice you will certainly need to bridge the gap. Additional certifications will be absolutely necessary. There is no way around it.

Unrelated to the video, but do people usually get a raise with internal transfers/sideways career moves?

Hey linda, I have a question for you I hope you could help me so I just get to the state and I work with car dealerships but I get a termination. How can I get a new job should I mention I get a termination? To be frank with you I don't do what to say at my job interview I get rejected 3 times

only tell interviewer what they want to hear. just say you are still employed because that's your best chance of being hired. honesty is for connected white folks. you have to hustle to land a job these days.

Hmm why were you terminated? The big tip - try to position the termination away from your personal performance (eg economy challenges and were let go)
