Totally agree with you BB. Circular Quay Station is most definitely to best place to first aim for after arriving in Sydney. All that underground travel just adds to the grand arrival at the Quay. Even if you don't leave the station & get back on another train to take you to a station closer to your accomodation, first stop must be Circular Quay.

Really useful video. I am travelling solo to Sydney from the UK in June, so it's good to have a video to show the process and where everything is. When I am travelling solo, I don't like to appear like I don't know where I'm going or not know what I'm doing as it can be an easy target for unscrupulous people. Videos like this are so useful for when people go to new places.

@@christopherpoblete8562 It was really easy. You can use contactless to pay for your journeys. I had a preloaded currency card which I think was either Visa or Mastercard and it was accepted in the contactless scan in and scan out. Very cheap compared to expensive UK transport prices! I understand you can buy travel cards which you can preload but the currency card worked for me. The Sydney transport website was great for working out routes (such as where you change and which lines) and they seemed pretty frequent. The train to and from the airport was a doddle too. I much preferred the Sydney transport system versus Melbourne...the latter had a lot of disruptions and bus replacement services when I went.

As Sydney residents, the train really is the only decent way to get to/from the airport. It's reasonably priced, trains are generally reliable and it's comfortable enough. Just a short lift to get your luggage onto the train and then off again (we have to change at Central). There's only one station on our line which does not have lifts - but that has gently sloped ramps to/from the platforms. A small fraction of the price of a taxi.

Does that mean you go through Central twice? If you get off at central the first time you go through and catch a Bankstown train you can skip half the trip, however if it's too complicated don't worry the city circle doesn't take that long to go around.

Thanks BB, for the valuable hint. If you live in Sydney near a rail line and travelling alone, the train is probably the best option. Yeah it costs a station access fee (which goes to the government not to a private organisation BTW), but it is way, way cheaper than a cab or parking at the airport (and it also stops the riff-raff treating the airport as a shopping mall hangout). If you are going as a group, a shared cab fare is often better. But there are also mini-bus shuttles which are often reasonably cheap and door to door, and may be the best option for some locations. If you live or are staying somewhere along the 350 or 420 bus routes, (or want to do the backpacker poverty transfer to Mascot station) you can also use them. Back in the day, I used to park at Revesby on the airport line for interstate meeting flights (or to Melbourne by XPT and back by air). These days they charge if you park at many station carparks and don't use your Opal card to commute, or you are there for more than 18 hours, but I know of people who now do similar to me and get back in under 18. Even if they don't, the fee is still less than airport parking or most cab rides.
