I experienced the same thing. My partner was shutting me down further in disagreements he didn't realize I lacked the ability to communicate like him which was one of the reasons our marriage failed. Fast forward I have worked on my communication skills and done a lot of healing I can better handle myself emotionally in disagreements.

9:36 - Show That You're Not Overly Sensitive. I used to be overly sensitive when I was in my 20's and going into my 30's. I was easily offended and took things personally. I was aware of how sensitive I was because people close to me would point it out. But it was not easily fixable. No matter how much I tried, I continued to be overly sensitive. BUT time helped me. As I grew older, I became more confident in myself and less insecure overall. Drawing healthy boundaries with people truly helped in seeing myself as myself and not through other people's perspective and lens only. Sometimes people are biased too. They see what they wanna see, even those who are close to you and say they love you. No one's perfect, right? As I practiced drawing healthy boundaries, I started appreciating myself and liking myself more. This gave me the confidence to seek LESS validation from people. Sometimes it takes time, so don't give up on finding your true self and who you are! Appreciate and find out who you are, flaws and all. You're worth it! You deserve to be loved and appreciated - especially by you. ❤️

Being angry is not "toxic" it's being human. If you are angry about something that he has done, you have the right to express your anger. For instance, if a guy is lying to you a lot it's normal to be angry about dishonesty. If you never express your anger when he is lying to you then he'll continue to do it. Speak and show anger and walk away. It will let him know you're not going to put up with being mistreated. I learned this from my own experience, more men will have respect for you because you don't allow them to walk all over you.

🖐️ Hi Stephan, good to view you today. I agree with you that men are brought up not to express their emotions. I was in a rare relationship where my ex-husband was the talker and I couldn't express myself equally. I learned later that he had some severe insecurities. This led to me shutting down and eventually resenting him. He was also very controlling. I did a video on communication, seeking to bring awareness to help someone with a similar situation. Communication is something I struggle with verbally, and it's ongoing self- work. I always welcome and appreciate you sharing your knowledge with us! 🙏🏽❤️

I told him I care about him and respect where he is coming from. He’s healing from women that have hurt him. I allow him to vent and I am being a good friend. I actually find it very attractive if a man is willing to be open and honest with me! I’m definitely not one to judge anyone or throw things back up in someone’s face. I think that this is real childish and no one has time for playing games. I’m definitely looking forward to meeting the one GOD has for me and I pray that he is willing to open up to me emotionally!

You’re right. Healthy communication is possible and couples have to the skill in resolving conflict. Imo, I have to be mindful and assure him that it’s safe for him to share his emotions with me and I won’t weaponize whatever he shared with me in confidence and vulnerable state. It takes conscious effort and practice to be fully aware without using the information they shared with us. This goes to all relationships. I asked my man to call me out if I mess up and then choose the healthy route. Thank you.

Hey Stephan, Thankyou so much for this video, perfect timing. I was talking with my partner, after 2 days of silence as I had a boot camp to attend to. So I lightly asked him to tell me when he misses me (even when am extremely busy as I enjoy talking to him even for a few minutes) ...then he laughs and says Saht. Saht (pronounced sat) is a slang in Zambia to mean No. He has used the slang in the past to mean a strong negative No in serious conversations which I ignored. This time I told him I don't appreciate that slang+it's use and that he should apologize. He said am too serious and I told him I will laugh when you say something funny. He ignored me for like 10 hrs, then I told him we should communicate, express ourselves instead of ignoring each other. Then next thing I got was an apology text. I told him thankyou for saying sorry and that was the end. What did I do wrong that I can do better next time?

Ive experienced different levels. My ex would cry & dump his emotions on me. Eventually it did end with me throwing it back on him because of how draining it was (& I feel absolutely terrible about it). Now, I’m watching this after meeting a very reserved and emotionally guarded man. There’s got to be a balance in between.

Girl, you just like to complain. You didn't want to be a girlfriend therapist, so you got a man who doesn't make you his counselor and that is also a problem too. You're simply an unhappy person.

This is so true. I took everything sensitive. Anything said I took it on me like it was me doing it when he talked he was just expressing himself. I have learned to not take anything personal. I checked myself to make sure that I didn’t say anything or do anything to offend anyone. But I do use a lot of humor, especially about myself when I learned that I don’t seem to get mad, I don’t have anxiety. I don’t cry like I used to. thank you so much. This is something I need to learn and to know that I’m on the right track.

Men express themselves when they are INTERESTED. He wants to hold back, he will be HELD BACK (LET GO FOR DISRESPECT), without me. Leave that ish for women with a SCARCITY mentality. TOOOO MANY men out here that are MATURE ENOUGH to express themselves. Let somebody else daughter raise him to be a man. Who has time to run a business and raise a full-grown man???? Get to the back of the line! SMH When the line dries up, I'll be alone before I become insecure enough to deal with these narcissistic behaviors. The Bible says "The blessings of the Lord maketh rich and adds no sorrow." He starts adding sorrow and I will withdraw my application in a skinny minute. I will have enough grace to communicate and if he doesn't change, it is a loud indication that he's not ready for me, and that behavior will continue to be sorrowful for me. I will not ignore this red flag of what I deem to be abusive behavior. PERIODT. Next topic....LOL

This is directed to Vita Dolce. Your comments were trash! Aint NOBODY got time to baby these narcissistic, immature grown boys! Period. Men need to step up and work for the prize, women. They are not the prize----this is biblical, GOD made woman for man NOT the other way around. I got out of a Narc manipulator relationship into a great relationship with a different race of man-------Black men, many, not all, need SERIOUS FUCKING THERAPY-----they got too many issues and traumas, most due to their own poor choices of not pursuing education but pursuing drugs and the streets then they get 50 years old and want to tear down good sistas that own they home, businesses, got retirement etc. And his azz come with envy and want to turn up and tear the woman down. Leave they azz alone!! Other men truly do know how to love black women and not stess us out. Let sleeping dogs lie in the vomit they created. I SAID WHAT I SAID.

Confident in who I am and what satisfies me and my expectations. You actually seem to be the crazy one because you have no clue about MY expectations and WHY I have manifested what I REQUIRE from my mate. Your comment is blatantly disrespectful but God bless you and your judgmental self....probably MISERABLE because you can't manifest and it's evident for being so critical of others.

Greetings Stephan, you're spot on about our energy being just as important as the words we speak. That goes for both parties for sure. Having dealt with a covert toxic narc for many years; before recently being divinely reconnected to my true king; had me on the defense when talking to him even when he wasn't acting a plum fool. Thanks for bringing that to the light so we can be mindful & make the necessary changes in the now. Be well!✨😊

Sometimes, when a man opens up, the things he says are traumatic and it might take the woman some time to over come her own thoughts and process what he opens up with, just like women aren't suppose to "over share" because it can cause a man to feel differently about her. But we do need time sometimes to work it out in our minds, so don't give up on us if at first we are like whoa, give us some time, especially if you broke our trust, work to build it back, don't just expect it to be there because you opens up and said sorry. We aren't superhuman.

My situation with my lover is he can’t communicate with me. We’ve been dating for over a year now and I know he isn’t raised to be expressive. But it’s gotten to the point wheee he didn’t tell me the decision of joining the Army. He told me about the Army on our one year anniversary lol. We haven’t spoken from the bomb he dropped on me. I needed to distance myself for my mental health. His uncle died suddenly this week so he has shut down on me more. I’ve been open that he hurt me from making a big decision without me and he’s shut me out of his life lol. He hasn’t told me anything about the funeral service or which uncle of his died. My uncle died this year too yet I told him how he died, when the funeral was, and I opened up about missing my uncle for dying suddenly too. I’ve played my role but this man can’t open up to me.
