Goddammit. I really don't know if I should laugh or cry at this. Most annoying thing to me is that the whole Goth gf thing has been reduced to a fetish, to a shallow desire. Almost no one actually knows where the Goth subculture derives from, what music Goths listen to, but thinks everyone in the scene has mental issues and are into kinky stuff.

Right there with you. Then you have to remember alot of these women that dress goth now are nothing more than basic b*tches in night mode. They don't read a lick of Gothic literature or actually grasp the concept of the traditional subculture. An example, they consider the rapper Lil Peep to be Goth.😆 There are real deals and then there are these.

True, but on a certain level is also useful to separate the aesthetics from the artistic side, since dressing in sexy and/or victorian dark clothes is something that doesn't require much thoughtfulness, compared to the musical, cultural and entertainment side (and I find hilarious how many of the greatest innovators in gothic rock and metal at some point rejected the gothic label to keep more on their originality, like Siouxsie, Andrew Eldritch, Theatre of Tragedy, Paradise Lost...)

That dude is hilarious but what they say is true. The AMOUNT of basic dudes (not hating, just saying) on dating apps that come to thirst over you for just dressing like that is astounding. I dated a dude that was ashamed of me for the way I dressed in front of others but loved it when we were alone. A lot of men objectify goth and dark alternative girls as some forbidden fruit to show off like we are some freak or we become the at home girlfriend because they can't stand other people opinions about them. It's frustrating. If you want to date an alt girl just because she is an alt girl, please don't. Be polite, caring and supportive.

what's even worse is the amount of basic dudes who, in person, will say "i want a goth gf," and then are literally disgusted when they see an *_actual_* goth person. what they mean is "i want a bell delphine-esque e-girl who fits almost all societal norms and is not a part of any alternative subculture." i can't tell you how many times i've been harassed over being alternative, by the same guys who pull the "i want a goth gf" card.

Ngl I don't mind alt girls but this whole categorization thing about being goth or emo or scene is just another way for people to latch onto an identity as a means to feel apart of a group even tho nothing of substance or importance actually drives these people to be together. The fact one can identify as something that started as a rebeling of fashion and social norms then at that time becoming a representation of the youths changing ideas from the elderly at the time for then the same said fashion and social norms to then become the new normal and now we are celeberting it as if those same ideas hold weight (given that the style has vastly changed) AND now since we are falsely attached to this identity we're implicitly agreeing that liking similar music and fashion styles indicates something about that persons personal compaitibility to us and also something about their character? Mucho stupendo señor.
