In this video, I'm showing you how I form a curved concrete sidewalk or walkway. You'll learn what I use for my forms and where to get them.
Forming a curved concrete sidewalk is easy if you have the right forming material and the basic knowledge of how to do forming for concrete.
This video will teach you everything you need to know about building the forms, setting them in place, making sure the curves look good, and setting the forms to grade using a laser level.

Keep up the great job on the videos! Being a novice I enjoy the technical support! I have made a curve using stripes of Masonite siding. They are flexible and cheap!
cool video mike, big help great idea using the vtek to curve the walkway thank you for the video
Great video bro. And using spray paint to do make shift lay out was brilliant
looking forward to the next one!
Nice set-up. Just Fyi cut a board the width of your walkway and use that as a spacer while you our setting the forms it will make a whole lot easier to maintain your width. Instead of having to keep pulling out your measuring tape all the time to make sure you our at the right measurement.

A story pole 😬
I use 8th inch hardboard for winding and radius sidewalks. It bows a little here and there, but your finishing skills takes that out.
Great sidewalk video its loaded with information and gave to me quick. Jim Green Bay WI. Thanks.
Great video Mike! I use Masonite to round the corners because you can get a pretty tight radius if that's what you're trying to do. I like the idea of PVC trim boards for a long gentle sweep, but I only do concrete work occasionally anymore. I'll keep that in mind if I do a job like that.

Yes they do. Thank You!!
Very useful information
I am a cabinet maker. I get pre-finished 3/4 maple plywood scraps from work and that is what I used for my curved walkway. That I just formed 2 days ago.
Love all your videos! Do you cut control joints the next day on stamped work? How do you make the control joints look good on those long, sweeping curves?
Great informative video. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you.
Great information.
Good job men..
Hi Mike so with just using the mag that's ok to stamp without steeling it, I e been using the steel for years and it something you get used to, but buy looking at your finished outcome your work is unreal
Azek board is the ticket. It is expensive but if taken stripped, cleaned and stored properly it works awesome. I've found out we need to put forming pins approximately every 24"-30" apart so the board doesnt lose its shape while pouring and finishing though. That would be my only complaint about Azek. You're jobsite looks awesome! Keep up the great videos and work!! 👍☝️

I’m curious...since I live in upstate NY and it gets very cold in the winter...I saw you use foam under a concrete pad before at the LL Bean. Would you ever use such foam under a curved walkway?
i always wondered about using pvc trim...of course i watch THIS video AFTER purchasing the 1/4 plyboard😭. plus my circular saw will probably splinter it. thnx for the video-subscribed

Thanks for subscribing. Yea, the pvc is really easy to use. We re-use it for many pours. I've had some for over 2 years.
I do the exact same thing Mike.
Your guy luke was beating the hell out of that stake 😁😁😁😁😁😁😁

I use PVC too.
We use plastic forms that have removable metal clips that we pin in place and then they clamp onto the stake for our grade

We used to use the azak also. Just prefer to use our new ones now. We use the azak when we have to cut a piece

I like to use the pvc forms but to get my curves smooth I like to use 1/2” pvc pipe just to make sure there are no flat spots in my curve.

Good idea Clay. Are you a subscriber to the channel yet?
Would 1/4 plywood work for something like this? I already purchased it so was hoping to use it. It's just a one time use maybe two times. Doing my own home.
@MikeDayConcrete

It will, that's what I used to use.
Where does the sidewalk end at? Is there a road there or driveway?
Would half inch plywood ripped to 10 or 12cm not be great option also. I bet it would bend enough. Or 3/8 plywood.
Have them guys cut a two by four the width of the side walk and then set one form to its curve, then use the two by four to keep the distant's all the way down on the other side while screwing and putting the other form in place as they go, instead of using the tape measure over and over and having to check the width. Cuts your time by a third and keeps a precise measurement across the forms, while forming small jobs like this !

Got it, thanks.
We use masonite. I prefer plastic but I am not running the show ;) I like to cut a "keeper", which is a 2x4 the exact width of the side walk, that way after I establish dimension on the house-side form, I just put the keeper perpendicular to the form on the inside and butt my down hill form against that, putting all the stakes in the second form across from the high side stakes. Then I set height on the high side, and just use a level at each stake to establish cross pitch on the low side. It's a fast way to do it, and very hard to fuck up.

I do the exact same thing for public walks. Get the back side up first and set it where you want; duct tape the level on the form and the front side is a piece of cake. 🤙💪

Can you just use like a 5/16 inch wood paneling and just rip it down for side forms?
@MikeDayConcrete
4 жыл бұрын
You can, yes. We've ripped 3/8 plywood and used it before.

@@MikeDayConcrete okay great.
Was this about febrezz on your back paw patrio on your forehead amd hair clipp on your nose 👃
I'm not a concrete guy, but why wouldn't they pour the driveway first and then pour the sidewalk so it matches up to the driveway edge?
Not bad for first timers...😆

Can’t find the answer to this question anywhere. Pouring a patio with a circle void around a tree at about 3’ diameter. How would I edge this concave curve? Would I use a normal hand edger but tilt it so only the tip is working the concrete?
