How to Forgive | A Monk's Perspective

How to Forgive and Let Go | A Monk's Perspective
Are you still holding on to things from the past? anger, resentment, hurt, bitterness, grudges.. If so, then this video may be for you. As monks in the monastery, we often perform an "asking for forgiveness" ceremony with our brother monks and teaching monks. This is also done with the lay people within the monastic community as well. I wanted to share this so you can get an idea of how we practice letting go. Of course, there are many practices that we use to forgive and let go; however, this is just one of them. I hope this is helpful and maybe you can apply into your daily life. Enjoy! #monks #monk #forgiveness #minimalism

Thank you Ven. Nick It is interesting the timing of your video coming into my life at this point and time as I am struggling and feel betrayed and it is very burdensome and energy draining. I don't know how to apologize to people who want nothing to do with me and am conflicted as they have betrayed me. my parents gave up on me when I was 14 and I have struggled finding support systems but found one with the Aikido dojo I belong to now. My marriage of 10 yrs is over and I have been dealing with an ugly divorce that has broken me to the point that I think I am going to give up fighting for my half and just walk away. It's bad enough that she cheated on me but to take everything and try to destroy my career with lies has left me feeling like I'm in a Twilight Zone episode. I feel overwhelmed and at times wish I could just get lost in meditation for eternity. I am at a point in my life where I am finding myself having to start all over again after loosing so much but I have my dogs and a trailer to live in. I don't have running water but have been able to purchase bottled water. I look forward to your videos and always seem to feel better after watching them. You are in my mind a true blessing to this world and I appreciate you and your videos.

Ego is powerful without correct understanding. It difficult to explain this in a comment. If you feel sad, or angry its because of an attachment or i can say that you did not experience what you expected. But this video is a great reminder that this is the time for me to let go of them and clear all this negativity; not because I tolerate what this person did to me, but simply because my soul deserves peace to finally move forward. I was suffering in my relationship for years now. I forgave the the person but still somehow I could not let go of the negativity from my head. I was finding answers how to forgive myself and let go. I found this video and I realised I have been projecting my anger to my parents and sister unnecessarily telling them always they did this to me.deep inside i know I am not that person. I went to my mom and apologised and I feel so free working on myself. I have always been grateful for their efforts but I found today it never reflected in my action. I asked for forgiveness and their response was very subtle. they just want me to be happy. I will keep working on myself on this issue and I hope I no longer attach to my anger. Thank you Master Nick.🙏 You made me a better person today.

This was extremely helpful. Thank you, Venerable Nick. I've been really thinking and dwelling on why an abuser, well, abused me. You bringing up your parents and such, how we can hurt people who are close to us made something click for me - It was because I was the closest target. Not because I am inherently a bad or evil person, but because I was nearest. I might not be ready to completely forgive her yet, but, I think this has brought me a bit closer to letting go. Thank you a million times over.

It's hard to let the past go. Past mistakes, past bad attitude of others and my reactions to it. But it means that I can go forward, analyse and learn from past. Forgiveness is a big step which is hard and a little painful until you understand, that this comes from ego. I understood with time that the more you focus only in yourself, the more problems you have with past. To let it go means to focus on others and not only in your ego

Powerful video. What you shared regarding your family tradition was truly beautiful. Regarding the essence of your video, I have concluded that forgiveness is not in order but letting go. I am doing this by working on my mind to have "the right view" on the matter. It takes work and I must remind myself at times but I am doing and will do it, because, candidly speaking, while they are family but to be as healthy as I can be, I am better off without them. It may sound harsh, but consider two things: One, you do not know my story (no disrespect intended), and, two, not everyone is a benefit to you, but a detriment. And I firmly believe to he healthy, we should commune with those who add to us, not take away. Blessings to you and your family.

I got the notification on this video last night at a time when I was struggling. All I saw was the words “Let go..”. I took it as a spiritual sign, a mindfulness sign, let go of a lot of emotional baggage and was able to move on with a distasteful task. A very timely “happenstance”.

Thank you so much. I have been learning to let go of unhealthy friendships, negative thinking, holding grudges and anger. I’ve been mediating and allowing myself to open to more peaceful feeling. I’ve walked away from people I felt have judged me for the past 10 years. Never felt myself around them but I know they are not evil, just our connection are not in sync? I wish nothing but the best for them and learning to forgive myself from all the defensiveness I felt all these years. No anger or hate - just let go and now I’m more at peace. Thank you from heart for your videos.🙏
