How to Fly an RNAV Approach | GPS Approach with Garmin GTN 650
An RNAV approach typically uses a GPS like the Garmin GTN 650 for guidance. Here's an LPV approach simulated with all the buttonology needed.

Hey man got my IFR license a few weeks back and your videos helped tremendously. You are hands down one of the best channels on youtube for flight instructions.

That is a GREAT instructional video and easy to follow. The time and effort you put into editing this video is much appreciated. Thanks! !! !!!
wow. Right to the point. Great graphics. Excellent instructions.
Wow, these videos are awesome. As a IFR in training pilot these videos really break it down into easy to understand segments. Great job with the entire video. Keep up the GREAT job!!!
The amount of value you provide for FREE on this channel is just insane. Thanks so much. So many of your videos helped me a lot.
You do a wonderful job explaining it in detail, I’m one of those VFR guys with 1500 hrs and just never got around to getting my cert. I will be picking up your online corse for sure!! Thank you CPT.
Very great video for simulators and realistic scenarios alike
Best rendition on using Garmin for gps yet. Fully explained.
OMG...You make it SO easy! Wow! So many instructors make it seem more difficult than what it is... That was SO simple.
LPV actually stands for localizer performance with vertical guidance.
I have literally no experience with aviation and I totally got it! very nice video. thanks
You're explanation is so talented .
Great job as always on all Your Videos.
Your videos are fantastic!
Amazing tutorials, thank you so much!!!!!!
Great presentation. Thanks
Thank you for this video. You are doing god’s work my friend.
Thank you Sir for sharing.
Thanks, would appreciate more GTN650 videos
Great tutorial, out of curiosity, is the reason for entering the hold direct due to gps guidance? If we were flying a VOR approach where the holding point was on a radial with dme, would we do a parallel/tear drop entry into the hold (I.e. wouldn’t know where my outbound leg is)?
Thank you so much my friend
Great video, any chance to have a video on RNP Approach ? thanks
Wow! I like it....
Glass cockpits Have really made our lives easier. I can’t imagine myself doing this in a steam gauge cockpit
Can you do an video on IFR xc Navigation log
When you release from the holding pattern do you have to start over in PROC?
I always thought RNAV was radio navigation what's RNAV with a radial arc can you do a video on that please
What gives vertical guidance in RNAV GPS Approach & RNP Approach? Anyone explain ? (Like it is ground based glideslope antenna in an ILS approach)
question... I notice your turn anticipate at both Zexon and Wikeb seem to initiate at about .9nm back from these intersections, and that the aircraft is travelling at 120 gs. What bank angle does this result in? And if the aircraft is operating faster, say at 160 knots, how would that distance and bank angle be affected?
I thought LPV stood for Localizer Performance with Vertical guidance?
I have done most of my experimenting with RNAVs in G1000 equipped aircraft. With the G1000, I (or the AP) am able to capture a GS at the IAF. But the GTN750 and GTN650 can only do that at the FAF. Right?

The GPS won’t stop you capturing the GS before glide slope intercept (the PFAF). Whatever your altitude is when capturing the glide slope, that’s when the AP will go into GS hold mode. Some people prefer to capture GS a bit earlier than FAF as you’re indicated
does this online ground school give endorsement to take the written test ?

Yes! It does. Upon completion of the course it will be emailed to you
If only I would have watched this I would not have busted my checkride
LPV DOES NOT mean "plus". It means Localizer Performance with Vertical Guidance.

Thank you, acronym’s are ok but many unexplained. We not informed. Those who know don’t share, they think they are smarter, but they had to learn somwhere.
DTK is direct track
Good presentation, except when cleared for the approach, you should not leave the previously assigned altitude until established on a published segment of the approach. IOW, being instructed to cross ZEXON at or above 2,400, the previously assigned altitude was 5,000 (which is obviously above 2,400) & should be maintained until ZEXON, at which time the aircraft will be established on the segment between ZEXON & WIKEB with a published altitude of 2,400.
