Folks, retired tech here. Do NOT use standard power steering fluid in this generation 4runner! He is using the wrong fluid. This vehicle calls for a Dexron ATF fluid which has a different set of detergents, friction modifiers and set of performance standards than standard PSF. This is what is taught by Toyota technical schools and cited in all manuals as well as being listed right on the reservoir cap. In the short term you won't notice anything but you will cause long-term problems. Also, please use quality fluids and not the cheapest house brand you can find- there is a difference and these fluids experience long service lives and strain.

Use Dexron 3 Automatic Transmission Fluid as previously mentioned, yes. Demitsu PSF Universal Power Steering Fluid for Asian Vehicles is was the Car Nut Guy says is originally use in Toyotas. It is much more expensive. Nice procedures in video.

Nice work! I use Valvoline MaxLife ATF. If you remove the reservoir, you can clean it out with brake fluid. Your daughter is a great mechanic! I use a MityVac and suck the fluid through the return line. Easy peasey and no mess. Again, nice work Thanks for the video!

Best method if you don’t want to buy a pump or vacuum to extract the old power steering fluid out. If you have time, stating the size of the hose that was inserted into the power steering hose and the different types of power steering fluids that could be used would be helpful to those individuals that can’t find those info. I will be using this method soon. Great video.

This may be a little racist? or stereo typical, but most hick americans think mercedes and bmw's are trash but i think thats because they dont know which ones to pick. like the inline v6 3 series are the best in my opinon. we own a 2008 sr5 4x4 4 runner our selves and i love that dang truck. Really good choice in a SUV. I need some more asian friends. Yall rock

thanks for the helpful explanation buddy! Next time you buy a new container of fluid, if you cut a "V" or triangle shape into the foil seal, it sometimes helps a little bit with controlling the flow of liquid so you don't spill as much. not so shitty! lol

Just make sure you don't run out of fluid in the reservoir otherwise you will get air in the lines

Next time you need to add fluid from a gallon container , pour it into a plastic cup 1st , THEN , pour it into wherever you need to pour . Use the type you get at McDonalds for a Large drink ) You wont make such a mess . Works for Coolant too.

@@3hmongchannel762 Incorrect. As a retired technician I can tell you that these are not the same fluids. Dexron fluid is a hydraulic fluid with a combination of cleaning additives as well as friction modifiers and must meet certain standards under stress. Standard power steering fluid does not meet these same requirements. There's a reason they teach this in Toyota technical school, print it on the reservoir cap and put in owners manual and service manuals. You will not notice an immediate difference but you will cause long-term problems.
