You can have lots of fun with these!!
It’s a plate to protect the magnet, if you keep the clamp on the magnet at all times when not in use you don’t need that plate, but if you don’t keep the clamp on it when not in use you put that plate over the magnet to protect it. They cover that in the instructions when you buy a Bitz jig.
