Not surprisingly, I had this same leak after a few years of driving. However, I had a second water leak into the car in the same area that got a lot worse over time. I lived with it for a while, but it got too bad and was causing electrical problems that may have become chronic now. So for anyone who may see this, I determined that the water was coming in through the holes in the body for the cowl cover clips. There's some defect within the body that allows the water to go places it shouldn't and it ends up inside. I used a weatherstrip adhesive to reinstall my clips and that took care of it. I had to trace the leak myself and it took several days of trial and error, so I hope this comment can help people find and fix their problem, if they have this particular one, much faster.

@@princessjac95 RTV silicone should also work well. Luckily there are now some videos on KZread that show the problem if you need a demonstration of what's involved. It's not difficult and the fix lasted five or six years before I noticed any slight leakage again. I need to touch up my repair soon, but it's nowhere near as bad as it was. Since yours is the '05, I suspect the same problem exists. Just a word of warning that it's a good idea to check the floor pan under the carpet if you can. I never put my carpet back in once I took it out because I didn't care at that point, but I got some bad rust in a couple of spots, but that took a long time. It's outdoor parked so perhaps it saw more water than yours. And maybe the carpet will work in your favor there holding onto a lot of the water. But first things first, see about sealing those cowl clips and dry it up. Good luck.

My 2007 mustang does it too and have you had a mold problem or did you check your car for mold?

  • @ravagingwolverine

    @ravagingwolverine

    11 ай бұрын

@@wordandwater9027 I didn't have any mold problem as far as I know, but I removed the carpet from my car many years ago once the water leak became significant and never put it back in. With the carpet in, the potential for mold is much higher. Plus there may be rust under the carpet, so you may want to take it out to check for both rust and mold. The carpet removal was pretty easy as I recall.

Thank you very much. I've just bought a Mustang GT 2008 and this morning I found water under the passenger seat. I live in France and almost nobody knows how to repair S197 series. The nearest garage who knows is 200km away from my home. You saved my Mustang, you saved me bucks (euros here 😉) !

I never comment on KZread videos, but much appreciation for this video. We had a torrential downpour in my area last night and I had the passenger side leak occur. Checked the drain plugs this morning and they were totally clogged and the cabin air filter was soaked. Got everything cleaned up and filter replaced in under an hour, thanks again!

Thanks for this video! Three of the four plastic phillips screws wouldn't thread out, so brute force was needed using a plastic pry bar. Other than that, this shows what needs to be done. EDIT: The best way to do this is to insert a small flat blade screwdriver under the bottom of the plastic screw (below the panel) and push the screw up far enough to twist it out by hand. I broke two of them before figuring this out. Replacements are Dorman 061-055D.

Wow, just WOW! I thought it was something way more serious. I just took out that little rubber boot, and aboot a gallon or two leaked out. I live in a dirt area, so the boot was just nasty. Everytime I wash my car, or it rains, the water leaks all over the passenger floor, and my radio stops working until it all dries up. I'm so glad this was such an easy fix! Thank you soooooooooo much!

It can be more serious. I had this kind of water leak on my '06, but I was getting a second source of water which got a lot worse over time. I determined the water was coming into the car from the holes for the cowl clips. I used an adhesive sealer to reinstall the clips. Keep that in mind if you ever develop a significant water leak and the drains are clear.

As soon as I pulled it, water poured out all over the parking lot (and it was not raining). The thing was clogged with all this fine black debris. Hosed it down and put it back on. Thank you for this video. Before hand, I had just come out of the car wash and had the AC on and next thing I knew about 2 buckets of water dumped on the passenger floor. The mechanic first said it’s an AC clog but then turned around and said that same area you dug the leaves out of has a crack and that he can fix it for $650! I told him to hold off as he knows I’m disabled and not working and my doctors didn’t sign off on my being disabled so I have 0 income. He claimed he already began sealing it but didn’t finish it. All he did was put automotive silicon on the area with an alleged crack. Idk where $1 worth of silicone equates to $650 but he claimed the car sitting in the sun cracked that area over time. It’s a 2005 that was parked in a car port for a majority of the time we’ve had the car and we’re the original owners. Have any of you heard of that area cracking? Fact is he kept the 05 Mustang at his garage for almost a month and had it parked under trees that drop a lot of leaves and this was the second visit for about the same length of time so I’m grateful for your video and look forward to hopefully digging out a ton of leaves and, replacing the in cabin air filter, and cleaning the drains. Good to know IF there really is a crack present that I’ll be able to access that area and finish what’s maybe a full $10 tube of silicone and you saved me from having to sell a kidney and a leg to come up with the $650 he wanted from me to do the same thing.

If the cowl is quite full of water, you can hear it slosh back and forth on the passenger side when steering back and forth quickly. Pull the passenger side drain tube out the bottom and tons of water (and possibly all your debris) will drain out. The passenger side appears to be worse generally than the drivers side, but pull both and clean inside the rubber drain. If you feel around inside the hole (in the cowl) after the drain tube is removed and it feels clean you may not need to remove the top grate. If you remove the top cowl grate, make sure you get a cabin air filter first as that's a perfect time to do both. I'd recommend purchasing new Cowl Drain Tubes if the old ones are in rough shape. They direct the water and probably prevent some fumes from entering the cabin, especially on the passenger side which contains the fan.

She said “well there is a bunch of water here and in the back of the passenger sit too 😥 I stared wondering if I left the window not all the way up 🤔 a few days later we hv light rain and I was like “see no more water in, I must have left the window down 💁🏻‍♀️ Then last week we had hard rain and the car was soaked and wet 🙁 I saw your video but I didn’t hv the time to fix it, BUT; tomorrow we are expecting heavy rain 🌧️ actually a storm in Los Angeles so I had to make time and fix the water problem 🤗 I am so proud of myself because I was able to remove the cover and place it back, and I found out my air filter had been at least up to a third of it length under water, didn’t hv the time to fix it yet, but am planing to buy the filter ASAP and change it my self 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼 Thank you A Lot 😄 The car started running smoother and easier acceleration 😊

@@MartinsUsedCarsCollectiblesLLC This Mustang belonged to my Son ✝️ who passed away in a tragic hit and run 😔 He loved this car and am planing to keep it for ever and trying to fix small details by myself if possible. Thank you again 🤗

I've already had my drain channels cleaned like two years ago. Now it's clogged again. What I think I'm going to do is glue a screen to the underside of the vents, thus preventing any debris from getting inside in the future.

Had about a quart of water in that compartment on my mustang. There is also a compartment on the other side that should be cleaned of debris as well. If the other side fills it will short out your windshield wiper motors. Happened to me a few years ago. It’s also a good idea to cut about a quart inch of the rubber plug off to limit it from ever clogging up again. It’s definitely a design flaw to have the plug narrow as much as it does.

Can i just take the rubber piece off completely or should I just leave it on because it’ll cause other problems?

Bro. I pulled the plug and water flowed like Jordan River. I will open the top compartment to make sure no leaves are stuffed in there. 🙏🏾

Hopefully this will fix my water leak. Haven't had my 07 gt for long and today was the first time I had water get inside. It rained earlier at work and I guess it had time to dry up a bit bcuz there wasn't much that came in.
