I had a so called "professional" come take a look at what was causing the leak in my 05 Mustang and he had no idea. He referred me to a shop and they offered me a quote of over $350 for labor and my car needed to stay at the shop for over 3 days. But Thanks to your video I was able to fix the leak myself and save Hundreds!! Thank You very much!

I have been having this issue with my 2009 Mustang for the past year. I really appreciate you posting this - including the instructions for removing the cowl. I don't generally mess with car repair, but your instructions were very easy to follow. Managed to get the fix done in about 10 minutes. Also good to hear that I can remove the flapper valve completely without breaking something else. Thank you so much.

Thanks so much, Jim! This fixed our water leakage problem in our 2009 Ford Mustang. Such an easy fix. We very much appreciate it. If anyone has problems with the screws, just use pliers to bring together the bottom portion of the plastic screw housing, then unscrew as you hold them together.

My son (US Army) called me from Fort Hood to say his 2006 Mustang GT started leaking on the passenger side after 3 days of heavy rain. I thought heater core but it looks like its what you describe. thanks for the video!! UPDATE - so we did what you suggest and we found the rubber flap/trap filled with crap and a lot of standing water up to the cabin air filter. we cleared it and REMOVED it and now its draining great. we cleaned out and bleached the air filter to get rid of any bacteria. thanks again. PS: we did not put back that rubber flap/trap it seems like a waste (Appendix).

"Ok, but will it work on my 2005 Mustang?" LOL Just kidding! Thank you SO MUCH for this video, Jim! My car started leaking from underneath the dashboard after heavy rain, and the guy at the shop told me "I don't know, I have to take it apart and pour water on it to see where it's leaking." Really? You're a body shop and you don't know? I had a gut feeling he was trying to take advantage of me, and it turns out my gut was correct!

The water was definitly getting in because of the drain being plugged up. There was a bunch of dead twigs and leaves stuck in there and in the chamber. I was able to fix this problem on my '06 Mustang in just about 30 minutes! Thank you so much for making this video!!

Great video. Solved my problem. I had half about an inch of water on the passenger side of my car and I could hear the air system hitting water when it turned on, I thought is was the recent wind shield replacement causing the problem. Sure enough, those rubber things were plugged up and my cabin filter was full of mold. You probably saved my electrical system as well since it was leaking so close to the fuse box by the passenger side door, thank you. I bought a shirt. Now just post a video about how to get water out of your interior carpet!!!

Thank you so much Jimthecarguy. I have been dealing with this problem for 8 years. I have a 2010 Mustang and have taken it into Ford Dealers and had them run a bunch of tests and they said there was no leak. When I first got my Mustang it happened and they thought I had left my convertible top down and wouldn't pay for the damage. I even took it to a auto shop to have them fix the problem. Today after 8 years I found this video and just fixed it in 10 minutes. I wasn't able to take the whole piece off like you did because I am not mechanically inclined at all and couldn't figure out how to move the windshield wipers. I was able to get my hand on the rubber drain and remove it from the passenger side where the leaks always are. I wasn't able to do the drivers side at all because of the wipers but if it still leaks I can take it in and tell the mechanic how I did the passenger side. Now If I can only get Ford to pay for the bubbling paint on my hood and trunk I would be all set. But thank you very much!

Hello, if you are still having problems the filter is in the bottom of the frame if you look down you will see under the frame the filter. You can pull that out. Make sure to buy new ones and put them in at risk of rusting and water damage

It had gotten so bad, that I was about to take my car to the shop today thinking it was a a.c. issue, or something. Decided to check out KZread first, and this was the very first video I saw. I had the same issue with my 91 Miata. The rocker panels would collect water an slosh around. I discovered the drain vents were clogged so I would run a ziptie into the vents and the water would drain out. Thanks again for this excellent video!

thank you so much for posting this. I just got my 2005 mustang 2 weeks ago and it has been rainy this past week. the first time this happened I thought it had something to do with a deep puddle I ran through by accident, but it happened again today when we had some hard rain. I will be trying this solution first thing in the morning. I'm glad it appears to be a simple fix. I love my new car and was worried I was going to have to send it to the shop already.

I just bought a 2007 mustang gt and have already replaced a fuel rail pressure sensor within a week of owning it. It started raining a lot recently and noticed tons of water leaking from the top of the passenger side. Watched this video and sure enough the ENTIRE bay where the filter is was filled with water. I barely touched the rubber grommet and all the water drained out. Was really happy it was an easy fix. Thanks for the video. Subscribed.

OK, this morning I headed out to my car after watching the video for the second time. I'm only 5' tall, so, I did not think that I could reach the little filter's, I happen to see one of my guy friend's, and asked for his help with reaching the little filter's. Found them, and they were clogged to the max! We ran the hose of water through to clear out all of the leaves, sticks and dirt. At first, he did not think that I knew what I was talking about, I told him I just watched this on KZread, I know what to do. :-) Thank you so-o-o-o much, you saved me a lot of money, not to mention stress. I also gained knowledge. OH, I left the little filter's off. :-) Thank you again jimthecarguy :-)

Holy Crap! I have been trying to figure out why I am getting all this water on the passenger side front and rear floor for a year. I had a new convertible top put on because I thought it was that. That did not solve it. I used silicone all around the front windshield. I even thought it could be coming in from the bottom of my passenger door or passenger window. I drilled holes in my passenger side floor, front and rear just to give the water a place to go since I could not figure out how to solve it. I was at the end of my rope so I came to KZread figuring it was a long shot. I can't believe it is as simple as this. Jim, I cannot thank you enough. I want to sell the car. It's beautiful, but no one wants a car to swim in. Thank you so much Jim. Great video!

Thanks for the info. It's been raining pretty steadily in L.A. for the last few days. My 2007 Mustang started leaking on the passenger floorboard and I felt that I would have to spend at least a few hundred to have this problem resolved. Found your channel and you described my exact problem. Immediately went outside while it was still raining, took off passenger cowl panel, and was greeted to a pool of water underneath. Took a pair of needle nose pliers and located the rubber drain valve at the bottom of the pool, pulled it off and about two quarts of water drained onto the ground. Thanks for saving me a load of money, not to mention probably days of aggravation. I owe you.

FYI, I had the same water leak problem every time I went through a car wash with my Mustang. Water would pour in through the front passenger-side air vent and flood the carpet. I discovered the water leak was caused by the clogged rubber drain valve at the bottom of the compartment where the air filter is located. If you clean out the debris that collects in the bottom of the compartment below the air filter and unplug the rubber drain valve, some people just remove the rubber valve and leave it out, your internal water leak problem should be fixed. It took me two years to figure this out. Hope it helps you enjoy your Mustang!

I did it this way for years on my 2006 mustang, then I realized you could just reach under the cowl (to the right of the battery and a little back) and pull that plug out without unscrewing the cowl top. Works on the drivers side too (which is great because then you don't need to take the wiper arm off.

Thank you very much. This happened to me after a major thunderstorm and everyone is telling me that I blew my heating core. I did the research and a process of elimination and found this solution. Thank you so much. Saved me a bundle.

God bless your business. I did exactly what you stated and they were clogged. When I pulled the left one out about 2 gallons of water came out. It was already retaining water. My daughter had taken this to a repair shop and they were charging her 700 dollars to replace the cowl and labor cost saying that was the cause of the car leaking and charged her 50 dollars for an assessment. Honestly thank you very much. Pray blessing over your family and business.

I have a 2012 mustang also.. the floor behind the drivers seat and under seat is wet, especially after it rains. Some on passenger side behind seat as well. Doesn't seem to be any up front though. Car is starting to smell now. I thought it might've been window seal.. did you pull these out and leave them out?

  • @JerseyShorePorsche

    @JerseyShorePorsche

@@3vuesaturn I thought it was a window seal at first as well. When I took a look at the problem highlighted in the video, the filter was packed full of crud. I cleaned it out thoroughly but decided to leave the filter in place, so far so good. Ill have to check it out in a few months again to see if it begins to build up again, but I assume it hasn't been cleaned out since the car left the factory in '12 so it might not be a problem in the near future.

I was debating getting rid of my 2011 Mustang convertible because the dealership told me it would be $1,400 to replace the whole top which I didn't even think it needed. It took about 5 minutes to pop that piece off and just like the video sad this whole thing was full of water there's even an algae growing on the cabinet filter. 10 out of 10 thank you very much man!

Thank you so much for this video! I just noticed the water on the passenger side of my 06 Mustang. I had no idea as to what was going on. I used up a whole roll of paper towel's soaking up the water. I saw where it was coming from, but had no idea what to do about it. It is finally raining here in California, and this is what happened. Happy about the rain, just not in my car. :-) On my next day off, I'm going to do this, thanks again.
