Hey dude. I need to do this lol. I tried removing the solenoid without removing the cover but it is stuck in there and I don't know how much force to use to get it out. If I remove the timing cover as seen on your workspace in your video, is there any small parts not seen ( springs, seals, I guess anything that would complicate the remove and replace of the timing cover) I am handy, but a rookie.i assume the solenoid would be much easier to get out with the cover off.. I hope you see this. Very helpful and great videos. Guys like you that motivated me to even becoming a rookie.thanks again

Flat rate mechanic, can you tell me if the infiniti magnetic retarder is removable and if it is in fact the same part as the Nissan retarder for the Maxima? Infiniti only sells the cover as an assembly with retarder and selenoid! I already spent 200 on a new selenoid because the old one was cracked!

Thank you! I had the P0011 code on my '02 Infiniti I35 and the car was running like crap. I was prepared to take it to the shop, given the challenges of removing the intake manifold. Apparently my oil level had gotten too low. I decided to change the oil first, since it was nearly due, and you had mentioned it specifically. After the oil change, it runs like a champ again, and the code hasn't come back.

on older infiniti's this p0011 code could mean low oil, just like you've found out. on newer ones '09+ this is most likely related to gallery gasket failure, which means the whole front timing cover has to come off...

This is brilliant - I can't figure why so many people thumbed it down. I have a 2.0 petrol X-trail in UK (Infinity in US I think). For several months I'd been getting two P1110 codes but the car seemed to drive fine apart from occasional idle lumpiness and stall - (no limp mode - so I just kept clearing the EML). After some Google time I finally got round to removing the solenoid (A right PITA when done in situ with big hands) (tip: a deep 50mm long 10mm socket puts a ratchet in the best place) and found it was real clean inside with no filter over the apertures and nothing happens with 12v applied on the bench - I now think it was duff when I bought the car used. After refitting it till the replacement arrives I left the plug off and got two P1111 codes - still no limp mode and able to acheive over 6000 revs driving uphill in first (auto). I'll edit this after trying the new one with the plug on and off at idle as I suspect a quick way to check is the idle speed might change slightly.

Little late to the game here but my 2015 Altima has p0011 and p0014. Camshaft timing issue. I’ve seen these videos showing that it’s the two camshaft sensors on the top. For bank A and bank B. That what you have in your hand is a crankshaft sensor. They are on the other side of the engine. Crank, exhaust and forgot the other. I’m trying to get clarification that the camshaft sensors are the ones on the top right of the engine and are the cause of the 14 and 11 code. So I don’t have to pull all them

I have a 2012 G37 which just started throwing a P0011 about a week ago. My fault. I completely dropped the ball on oil changes and it was not only super low, but very sludged up. I immediately added clean oil, a new filter and some SeaFoam. Drove about 300 miles and had that new oil changed. Added more SeaFoam to the fresh oil too. So far the P0011 keeps returning on each start-up. I pulled the passenger side solenoid and it came out looking as clean as the one you show in the video...I guess SeaFoam really works! Did the actuation test and the valve is fine. Still getting a P0011 though. I swapped the bank 1 and bank 2 cam sensors. These were actually covered heavily in sludge. :-( Still setting P0011 (vs P0021) so the cam sensors seem fine. I'm guessing the crankshaft sensor is fine as both codes would likely set simultaneously. (?) The car has never set P0021. I noticed you didn't mention anything about the cam sprockets. I've read that the cam sprockets can get packed with sludge and at that point, they require replacement with new sprockets. Is this true, or just an Infiniti dealer mechanic's opinion? Can the sprockets not be cleaned of sludge vs having to purchase them new at ~$500 each? I would think soaking them in carb cleaner overnight, or even for a few days, followed by a compressed air blow-out might do the trick. Looks like the intake valve timing control cover (bank 1) and sprocket are the next components I should remove, check and clean (if possible). Update: I fixed it yesterday. Turned out the encoder ring had slipped about 10 degrees. It’s pressed on to the cam phaser. I was able to remove it and reposition it. All is well now!

Thanks for the great video. I'm in need of some more help. I ended getting the code P0014 on my 2009 Maxima. Said bank 1, so I roll uped the sleeves and started getting to it. I have to say that's definetley a pretty big job not impossible but not easy. Anyway I got to the camsahft cover and removed it. Then I removed the 10mm bolt holding the solenoid/actuater, tested it like you showed us. It wasn't dirty or had no sludge. It had worked by adding power to it. So this leads me to the next part in that cover. Which is the Exhaust Valve Control Magnet Retartder. Many questions on that. I really don't want to install everything back until I'm 100 percent that I don't have to replace that part. I brought it to a local mechanic he put some sort of tester to the harness part and he said it seems to be working. I asked him how would that Magnet retarder go bad. He really had no answer. So here I'm left with the car all apart and not sure what to do from this point? How would that part go bad? How can I do a test to verify that it doesn't need changing? I actually brought the car to the first mechanic that's worked on my car before when the check engine light came on. He ran codes also and said the it was the Magnet Retartder. The second mechanic says that part rarely goes bad and it should be the Solenoid/actuater. In this video I believe you said that you didn't want to talk about the Magnet Retarder, so it sounded like you might have a video about that part? Please help, the dealer didn't even know what that part was. I found that part on line for $150-$175 plus shipping. But when I called them they didn't know much about that part either. Do you have a source that sells the kit with it? Please help.....Thanks!!!!

Yes and No..... No meaning I ended replacing the solenoid myself with a used one from the salvage yard. But I had tested it like this video shows. Long story short the P0011 code was the worst thing that had happened to me with a car ever. I couldn't get the car to run right. I took it to 2-3 mechanics and they couldn't figure it out or fix it. I finally took the car to a technician for Nissan at the dealership and yes even they struggled. Had my car for days. I got lucky they fixed it is what I felt. By far Nissan is the worst car ever!!!! Only problems from day one. Less than 100k miles and I have replaced everything. Fast forward 1.5 years had no issues and again the car is throwing the dreaded P0011 code. My recommendation is to definetlly bring it to a Nissan dealership. These other guys couldn't fix it. Best of luck!!!@@mfmf3713

Where they cheap solenoids? Always best to get the recommended naturally more expensive OEM products. I'd be interested to hear how it turned out since I popped a P0011 code about a week ago and my car gradually slowed to a sputter over a few days?? I guess this is called "Limp mode" a preprogrammed defense mechanism Infiniti's have in place to prevent further damage. Thanks 👍

@@urielreyes469 because it is the vtc cover. it has the 2 sensors built into it from the dealership. the problem actually lies in the magnet inside the cover. that big looking wheel is called a variable valve timing retarder. not sold seperately. must buy with whole vtc cover. expensive.

Ok well initially I got a p0011 and p0021 code. Motor kicked and bucked. (about two week before this, the cam shaft sensor went south and car stalled, replaced the sensor and motor was running fine) Topped off my oil, cleared codes and got the p0011 back., though motor acted normally. Got an oil change and installed a new VVT solenoid on the passenger side ( it appears that the P0011 is for passenger side , right) cleared code, and periodically I still get the code, with motor acting normally. My oil pressure is about 15 psi at idle and 50-60 at speed (based on marks on gauge). I'm at a lost as to what to try next.

The Flat Rate Mechanic Nope didn’t do that. Start car, warm it up in N at idle Then hold car at 2000rpm for 20 secs, right? I took the tension cover off to see any gasket material around the galley cover, but couldn’t really see anything ( charging up my borescope to see better). What do I ask for at the dealer?

@@cfauvel That is correct it took me so many attempts for it to work on a similar car I thought I was going to have to bring it to the dealer. Clear codes and do it several more time. If not change have the dealer do a valve timing relearn. Only the dealer level scan tool can do this. If still have a problem after that you could be looking at a worn time chain or bad timing chain tensioner.

  • @michaelayeni177

Please help. I just bought a new car and this code of P0014 was coming up on my 2014 Kia forte EX What happened was that the car stalled when I was going about 30MPH on the highway. I pulled off to the side of the road and tried to start it. The car did not start. Instead, what i got was a SINGLE click when trying to turn the car. I then continued to start the car and when I opened the hood of the car I noticed trails of smoke coming from the engine. I was not able to locate the source of the smoke. All I can say is that the smoke was from the right side of the engine and that it smelled like burning wires. So although I bought the car as-is, the dealer was nice enough to look at the car since the car stalled just a few hours after buying the car. Now the dealer wants to replace the starter. I don't feel that this is the issue because the car stalled. I would be BEYOND glad to receive any help.
