To ellaborate further on this issue. There was video replacing the selenoid which is apart of the emissions but I removed it due to poor quality IMO. The reason why the message pops up is that there's an issue with the EVAP system. This consists of the Gas cap, Charcoal Cannister, Evap Selenoid, and Vapor Purge Valve. All problems are dependent on the code that pops up usually it will start with the P0445 code as an example then you know you have an emission code. What I demonstrated in this video is the cheapest option as the seal on my gas cap was essentially dry and had cracks in it. It's an old video, but I made it public again for help. This may warrant a video to be created just like my DL8 TO DL3 conversion video explaining the reasons why it happens but nonetheless, i hope this message helps everyone.

Now i dont want to suggest this but this is what i did.... I didn’t have a OBD scanner but if you disconnect one of the terminals on your battery and flick the high beams on it will drain the power from the Computer clearing the code out basically thats what i did and mine went away never had the light comeback and i could remote start it again. Hope this helps you!

Arturo Baez Nope, just flip the high beams on when you disconnect the battery so any power drains out of the car and reconnect within 3-5 minutes and it should disappear thats what i did and it worked for me!

The computer stores information from the certain amounts of miles. The guy making this video doesn't seem go know a whole lot about fixing this issue. P0455 pd is the error code that usually comes with it and it means you have a gross fuel leak(gross meaning a lot). First thing you do is crawl under the gas tank and fuel lines and see if you smell or see a leak. Next is to check to purge solenoid to see if it holds vacuum . If it's not holding vacuum. Then that means the solenoid is stuck open and burning extra fuel. Lastly is the charcoal filter for the evap lines next to the fuel cell

oh boy, I hope this will work for my 2003 Ford Windstar. There was this one time when I went to get gas where I lived and I filled it up all the way. and I drove off, get this, without putting the cap back on the car at all... I know crazy right? well, when I got off of work I approached my car and noticed that my fuel cap was opened and missing ENTIRELY!!! I thought someone sapped my fuel and I was stranded. turns out that I'm just a goof lol. anyways here's alike. have a good day

2005 was a super shitty year for Chevy trucks. I hate my 05. My 98 is way more reliable.

Can this have any lasting effects on the car?

I have a 09 Silverado and I’m having the same issue but I can’t seem to find a cap that works. I’ve ordered multiple caps claiming to be the one for my truck but non of them fully seal. Could it be an issue with the filler neck threads?

Most likely your problem isn't the gas cap if you have tried different ones and have the same issue. It sounds like the solenoid is bad or the canister. Get the engine code checked and see what code it is throwing.

It is aligned to the Evaporative emissions control system, so it'll trigger the check engine light.

I replaced mine yesterday, today the message showed up again

I feel you, I'm in the exact same situation right now. Whenever someone rides with me and it dings"tighten fuel cap" I just say "don't worry, that's normal" 😵‍💫

after putting new gas cap on, and you turn it three clicks, is the cap still able to turn further while turning it clockwise?? I want to find out if my cap is bad. i don't have the message type in my car the car is not equipped with that type of message.

Disconnect the negative battery cable for at least 10 minutes, then reconnect to see what it does...

Buddy just because this worked for you doesnt mean it will fix our problems there are many reasons that warning is popping up. A pinhole in has filler tube will cause same problem buying new cap wont help.
