I have an idea! Kidnap the families of every player in the game. Which ever teams wins, gets their families back, while the families of the losing team are locked down in a resort for an entire year. It'll be a nice resort and they'll be treated wonderfully, but you won't get to see or talk to them until the next all star game.

They should make same rules like in 90 or early 2000, with hack a shaq counter. That would fix games so much. And tell refs to start calling travel etc. and not calling their hurt feeling, allow players to taunt each other a little. But they wont do that, cause it would make 1-2 season looking terrible, cause with def most players % will go down rly bad, imagine if team avg pts per game would go down from 120 to around 100. Todays nba is about making great players by allowing them to score sick numbers by all means possible. NBA now is about quantity not quality and fans who dont remember how nba was before that are ok with that, cause they dont have comparision. I would rather watch SAS (in their ugliest playestyle) against DET (championship) than any other today NBA game cause they all look almost the same. Yeah i know that SAS - DET game could end in around 70 pts on each team, still more fascinating game than todays 120 avg game

I haven’t watched the all star game in full since 2011. This game is what you would expect the players to do in a lighthearted scrimmage behind closed doors. This level of play isn’t meant to entertain the general public.

It would be cool if they grouped them in 3’s and did a mini tourney of games to 21. All the guys would play full games, make it single elimination and the last team standing wins. You could have a guard, wing and big on each team. I’m sure it’ll never happen, but would be fun and different and tourney style might make them more competitive. With such short games too, I bet we’d see guys going hard. Especially like the underdog teams fighting to stay alive

yes it never made sense to me why we begin voting for all star participants mid way through the season. Let the players play all 82 so we can see who really deserves to be in the game, and then have the game take place prior to the finals, sorta like how the nfl handles the pro bowl.

Look at how many snubs there were this year alone

The All Star Game reflects what the NBA has largely become over the last two decades. A game largely missing Defensive competivness with few real stars on D.

Just keep having the vote for Allstars and in the record books it will say the players were All stars but shut the game down. Shut the dunk contest down. 3 point contest is the only thing watchable

I'd at least eliminate the allstar game for 1 year to show the players that their embarrassing performance caused this. And force them to play in 1v1 or 2v2 tourney instead

Fans should boycott everything.

The dunk contest and the ASG need an overhaul badly. Not to mention the skills challenge too. The only event worth watching is the 3 point contest

Then why have the game at all? The fans mock it, the players clearly aren't into it, so why bother? You could get injured at practice too, or training at home, or dozens of other scenarios. So why bother? At least in the NFL where contracts are not guaranteed I can understand it. These guys are fully guaranteed, playing a MUCH less physical game alongside their buddies who aren't going to put them in a sketchy position in an All Star game. Let alone I've watched All Star games for years, back when they actually played hard. Not once did anyone get seriously hurt. And that was in a much more physical era where guys went at each other. A little bit of effort isn't risking much for these guys, and it stops them from spitting in the fans' face who pay to watch this garbage every year...

Why not have the in game tournament final game be during all-star weekend?

Winners get an additional W add to their team win column. Increase the number of all-stars to 16 from each conference and have each conference split into 2 teams (no replacement for injured players). Each team has a captain that selects from the pool of players to join their team (maybe Captain selects the 5 starters and coach selects the 3 bench players). Then have interconference teams compete against each other with the winners on both sides going to the ASG finals. Also similar to what you stated could follow a point system similar to Fantasy Leagues to better reward defense.

Make all star bonuses contingent on whether or not they win the all star game. Bet they’ll compete then.

Idk if this is a good idea. Would love to see what others think. Maybe there's something I haven't thought of if they did this. Move the NBA Cup to All Star weekend and remove the All Star game. Make the in season tournament a double round robin instead of a single round robin perhaps. Then have the semis be on that Friday and the final be on Sunday. Have all the festivities that we normally have for an all star weekend. Then make all stars something on paper. They may have to tweak bonuses and stuff like that for it to work for them but unless there's something I haven't thought of, I think it can work.

20 players get selected to the all star game by position. Have a 1v1 tourney by position ( pg vs pg, sg vs sg etc), 4 min per game (street rules, score and get possession/miss and the other player gets possession. The 10 players who advance play a 5v5 full court nba ot rules (5 min).

It’s really sad to see stars play harder in open courts and summer leagues rather than what should be the ultimate pickup game representing your conference. The fact players don’t have the pride to play decently is sad to see. When reporters asked what had to be done to fix this issue. The players just say they don’t know, which is funny since it’s such a simple issue that they themselves can fix. 😒

Throwing out a radical solution: Change the All-Star Game to an All-Star 3-on-3 Half-Court Tournament. The numbers work out perfectly with 24 all-stars every year. So 8 teams, 3 rounds. Round 1: First to 10 by 1s. Semis: First to 15. Finals: First to 20. No 3-pointers. Top 4 players in each conference are captains. They pick teams on TNT the night before. The key to making the game good is for the players to care. Shrinking the team to 3 players would put the egos back into the game. Especially once you get to the final game.

I think if they made it 27 under Allstars vs 28 up it would make it interesting. Old heads vs young dawgs...

What if there was one random rule every year. Next year there would be no 3 point line, the year after it could be make it take it. Maybe the next year blocks and rebounds could count as points or something. It could be worth watching just to see the players adapt and see a different kind of basketball.

They should do the All-Star game at the end of the season, after the Conference Finals. Finals players can be selected but are exempt from participating. Make the one week break a trade deadline break, and a couple days for a pre-playoff push for training camp. If they really want an event at that time, do something based on the young talent. It could even be a March Madness style event with short halves and money on the line (nearly all of those players would be on rookie deals anyway).

What the NBA needs to do is to solicit ideas from basketball fans - whichever idea choosen will get some good rewards like a pair of tickets, etc.

I think they should get rid of all-star weekend ENTIRELY! No more breaks mid-season, and no have reduced pay contacts at the end of seasons because of having no All Star selections. That would change players mind real quick.

they first needs to select the best player to the all star, they left some platyer that are really good... they have to select them base on the stats not the name of the player. and they have to pay a really good extra money to the team winner and the team that lose they have to fine them or something.

This was a game back in 90's and 2000's. Now it is a corporate activity designed to spend a day-off. The CEO, COO and the shareholders think that it helps bonding, but the employees just wanna finish it and go home.

16 all star players per conference. They pair into 8 pairs (via picking in order by who got the most votes). Have them play 2v2 street ball play-offs. Final game is between the best pair from each conference.

This or something like a 3v3 tournament with two teams from each conference. Make the 4 captains play knockout from half court to get seeding. Team 1 and 4 play first and then Team 2 and 3 play. After that the finals

Pick the 2 top teams in the standings to play each other as a regular game....no slouching.

The only injury of note was kobe breaking his nose which he didn’t miss a game for. It’s not like we’re asking them to play playoff level defense just play the same way they usually do in the ucla open runs or drew league. It can’t be too much to ask them to make the game have some type of competitive feel.

They also earn Max money and make enough money to live off on their guaranteed first contract if they did have a disaterous injury which has never happened in the history of the game. The NBA players are by far the most pampered players in sports. Moaning about playing 65 games to win awards and then this joke of a all star game.

I agree to those who said make it a 3-on-3 tournament style format. That will make me want to watch the all star game again.👍

Winner gives home court advantage to their conference in the NBA finals. Teams at the top of the league really don’t need more incentive to gain in the standings, so no matter what the record is, whichever conference won the all-star game gets the home court advantage.

Maybe move it at the end of the regular season? Make it count as part of the MVP vote. Get the top two MVP candidate pick their teams from the eligible list. Maybe if they have no teammate in the list … allow them even to bring in a teammate not in the list - who will have vested interest in helping them win. They need players who wants it.

Removing the all star game is an amazing idea. Adam should also add a roadblocks and terms for players association if they want to get it back (make them provide signatures to see how bad they want it)

Maybe a format like the rising stars tournament. 4 teams, shorter games. Select 6 guys by public voting for each conference. These guys will be separated on 4 teams, the coaches will choose the other 2 guys for each team and the reseserves. For instance, based on 2024 ASG voting: TEAM A - Lebron (W1), Durant (W3), SGA (W5) + 2 coaches selections + reserves TEAM B - Jokic (W2), Luka (W4) , Booker (W6) (omg that would be great, Luka and Book together hahaha) + 2 coaches selections + reserves TEAM C - Giannis (E1), Embiid (E3), Bam (E5) + 2 coaches selections + reserves TEAM D - Tatum (E2), Lillard (E4), Banchero (E6) + 2 coaches selections + reserves Make a semifinal within the conference and an interconference finals. The games could be on a point-based system. It's just an idea, but at this point, anything can be better than what we're having lately...

It's amazing to me they don't still don't have a HORSE competition on Saturday night. That's basically what the All-Star game has turned into anyway. Players clearly want to show off their shooting without exerting a lot of energy. Let the elite shooters go head-to-head in a tournament bracket. If you want a blueprint, look at what Battle at the Berrics did for skateboarding. It's some of the most nail-biting one-on-one contests you can find. Get a referee in there to make the games run efficiently, and people would definitely watch. If it gets popular enough, and the All-Star game keeps getting worse, move the tournament to Sunday.

Not to say you are wrong, but I personally enjoyed this year's All-Star Game. It's an exhibition game, I didn't tune in for a competitive game. I tuned in for half court shots and dunks, and I got it. Seeing if the East can pass 200 also adds a bit of suspense, so I have nothing to complain. But then again, everyone enjoys different types of content. Same thing with movie, music, and basketball games, there's no right or wrong, they should all exist. Like there's regular season games, there playoff games, and there's All-Star Games.

What I think could work... Get rid of the 3pt line for all star games. Give bonus for defense. Create some kind of benefit for winning the All-Star game.

I’m the same. Didn’t watch the game this year. In fact, I cancelled my league pass this year. For a number of reasons. I honestly laughed out loud when I saw the score. What a joke. I think we saw in the in season tournament, that money can make a difference. I would have a bonus payment for every player on the winning team. Starters get more. Before every point, the opposition scores that amount of money reduces. But the reductions I want a logarithmic scale. So for every point you concede between say one and 50 reduction is less than for every point scored between 100 and 150. I would have anything the team focused rather than individual focused. The amount of money could be $1 million per player, but if the opposition score 200 points you get almost nothing.

Make it like the the Rising Stars Game, try to create even teams or not, then make a tournament. if they're competitors? they'll play.

You could make it like the Aztecs played their version of basketball...winner wins all the glory and losers lose hard. Would definitely make the players take the game seriously.

Rank their performance (media + couches) and the bottom 10% to be officially retracted from ALL-Star selection, plus loose chance for any individual award or selection for the next year.

Here is my idea: EVERY player (including those that didn't make it to the all star game) in the winning conference get a 5% to their guaranteed pay for the year and EVERY player in the losing conference gets a 5% deduction. We would be seeing a lot of motivated players

How about NBA Allstars vs Euroleague Allstars, The Euroleague players would be hungry to prove that NBA Allstars aren't all that and potentially they might be scouted by the NBA if they play well, and if the NBA players have any pride they would up their game so they are not outclassed by the Euroleague players. Maybe the NBA should make the all-star game 40 minutes over 4 quarters and test out rules the league wants to introduce the following season. It's beyond saving at this point because the mentality of the players today has changed. If players don't care about the integrity and the fundamentals of the game then fans eventually will stop caring about wanting to watch those players play the game for good

My thought is try an all star game that calls back to old classic NBA days like the 60s, have old jerseys, enforce the game rules if you are the refs, get rid of the blasted 3 point line.
