    Thanks for the amazing tip! But I noticed that you put in the dirty filter back inside, why?

    Great question! Definitely install a new filter. That filter was relatively new. It only had a couple thousand miles on it. If I could do this video over again, I would definitely install a brand new filter to eliminate any confusion.

    I would run it both ways so it goes through all of the ducts. If you only choose one, choose the ac. The ac is what causes moisture in the ducts, rusting in bacteria growth.

    I have paid the dealer to switch the air cabin filter several times, but to no avail. Obviously, I need something like this. The dealer (Cadillac) will do this for a charge, but they're probably doing no more than what I saw here. I am going to use something called Ozium which is used by hospitals just like Lysol. I have heard that I should remove the air cabin filter in order to not trap the chemical and allow it to circulate the system, then replace the air cabin filter with an aftermarket upgraded version. I have also read that the air fan speed should be on low (and not max) for optimum benefit. I live in Fort Lauderdale, so I need to get this process down.

  • @HowtoandReviewsOfficial

    @HowtoandReviewsOfficial

    2 жыл бұрын

    There are definitely slightly different ways to do it regarding fan speeds and such. I don’t think it makes any significant difference. If you spray disinfectant through the ducts, odor creating bacteria is eliminated, and the smell is gone. Don’t overthink it or lose sleep on small details. Send a can through the ducts and you are good to go.

    Good video and I learned something! I did this earlier but my results were just fair because I was missing a step you showed here. After watching your video, I realized that the air vent setting should be rotated thru like top vent, foot vent etc. Question: Any Lysol disinfectant is okay or certain ones?

  • @HowtoandReviewsOfficial

    Do you recommend running the heat for a while before hand? I heard it helps to do this before so any moisture trapped in the vents evaporates and so the Evap can dry off. I think most of us leave the ac on and that’s what causing this at least for us in south Florida.

  • @HowtoandReviewsOfficial

    @HowtoandReviewsOfficial

    2 жыл бұрын

    That’s a great point. For cleaning it out, I do not think it would make a difference. The bacteria creating the smell that’s in the vents is already established. Introducing the Lysol is what will eliminate it. During normal use, air conditioning and recirculation are the main causes. They result in moisture in the ductwork, which supports the bacteria growth. Back to your idea, it would probably be beneficial to run the heat at the end of every drive to clear out any moisture or condensation in the vents, preventing the problem from occurring. However, that Would be pretty ridiculous and it’s not practical.

  • @HowtoandReviewsOfficial

    @HowtoandReviewsOfficial

    I personally would recommend not turning on the AC. The AC recirculate‘s the air in the car and does not pull fresh air from outside through the cabin air filter. I did this about six years ago and the smell has not returned. Work great!

    The purpose for cabin air filter suck air from internal cabin not outside. There is an intact duct under the dash where the intake cabin air duct is located. You have to spray lysol inside that duct

    The condenser is aluminum, so it will not rust. Also, it is typical for it to have water in it (it’s function is to remove moisture from the air), which is why it has a drain line.

    Sounds great. If that works, that is the way to go! Typically, the bacteria causing the bad smells is in the ductwork, and spraying the lysol through the system is required to eliminate the bacteria and the smells.

    Lol! You are correct. I re-created it. I had already done this procedure five years previously (at the time of making this video) and the smell has still not returned. I made this video when the pandemic first started and products like toilet paper and Lysol were impossible to find, so I decided not to actually empty the priceless can. The filter was also pretty new. Didn’t need replaced. But, in videos since then I’m sure to actually perform the task.
