Great video. It would make sense to remove the filter before spraying that way most of the Lysol doesn't end up in the paper filter.

True, but if you have this odor, filter probably needs to be replaced as well, so just leave old one in, then replace after Lysol

It was actually my body odor from doing a detox. Infected everything. Had to start life over. All clothes. Everything in my bedroom tossed including bed. Don’t know what to do about the car. It’s driving me crazy. The stench is so potent it sticks to you instantly.

This is how to manage the bad smell. When you're about five minutes away from your destination turn the heater on and set the fan speed on high. This will dry out any condensation in your air vents. That condensation buildup is what's causing the smell

Nice truck! This would definitely work however I would do it before a car wash because leaving any of those chemicals on the exterior surfaces especially in the sun could fade, crack, damage plastic and painted surfaces. Also I'd hit recirculate and spray some under the dash where it pulls inside air.

I hope this works. My Tacoma stinks when the heat gets hot after a bit of driving. Not only does the truck smell but I smell it on my clothes. I’m ready to get rid of the truck.

FIY- Found a leak on the roof rack screws. This lets water in after rain or washing my highlander. Humidity set in and creates this awful smell.. I have done this Lysol, but I'm relearning how to after your video. Thanks

Mine smelled when brand new, I thought it was all the brand new hoses and stuff but I’ll try this

Just tried this on my 2014 Silverado, same Lysol and everything! Can’t wait to find out if this works. Thanks for this video! I’ve been dealing with stinky musty air for 3 months and it’s been driving me crazy. Those store bought solutions you put in your car and roll the windows up and it sprays is the biggest lie in the world. Those made it worse!

So the smell doesn't come back . When using a c turn off before you get home then run reg fan to dry out Moisture in a c unit . Minute or two!

Hi am in India and today I will check for lysol... thanks for the video. A question I have a etios sedan diesel engine car. Please do correct me if am wrong. I start the car put out on close mode. On the aircondition to full and keep the windows open??? And after spraying I wait for how long to off the ignition.? Then I take the car for a round with the windows open and blower on.. with out switching on the aircondition.. ?🤔ok sir? Thanks

Ive seen videos of people removing the vent cover to clean it up. Is that unnecessary? Can we just spray the vents from up top

Rob did you change out your HVAC filter behind your glove box. Walmart sells a FRAM one with Arm and Hammer deodorizer in it. Food for thought.

Do a KZread search on Ozone generators for your vehicle.

This is just a temporary fix, after a couple days the smell will return. The only way to get rid of this smell is to probably clean the vent and air ducts like how you have your home vents and air duct professionally vacuum and brush.. Also you can disassemble the air ducts and vents passage.. But disassembling some parts of the air duct will help decrease the smell by a small percentage only. But disassembling any vehicles ducts or vents is very cumbersome and tedious labor intensive. WORK. but to each his own.. good luck.

You don't need to but it'll have a strong fragrance for a little bit

Sometimes Lysol can leave an overwhelming smell when you spray too much and it looked like you used a lot. How has it been after a couple of days? Did the bad smell go away and can you still smell the Lysol?

Great question. It's not bad. I asked Jesse and it didn't bother him either. Leaving the windows down when applying the spray I think helped a lot. It was really strong at the first application. It's much less stronger than those old school pine tree mirror air fresheners too.

I tried this fix and was excited about it. So simple and smells great initially. At least with my car the smell came back within a few weeks. Thanks for the hack, wish it worked. But sharing so others know it doesn't always.

Change your cabin air filter. Spray the new one with lysol and or you favorite smell good. I used the oil from a wall plug in...just open the top and drip some of the oil on both sides of filter. All my friend do it. Cars smell great and it last a long time....and you dont hv to deal with air freshener trees or those lil things youd clip to your vents. Do the lysol through the vents from outside again...but you hv to use at least half the can to kill bacteria...do this and the filter hack and youll be good to go..

Taurus The Barber Little tip. Next time, try not to put oil scents on filter, oil will block air flow, but if it works okay for you, then it’s fine. Oil will make filter not last as long though

I learned that I had my air circulation on too often which lead to the condensation build up and mildew growing. Not sure if that’s the same cause you might have but something to keep in mind. I hope this helped a bit

Sir, is ok to use dettol disinfectant spray if lysol is not available?

The #1 problem is EVERYONE runs the HVAC on RECIRCULATION, big mistake. Run Fresh air 80% of the time.

When you do Max A/C , it automatically turns on recirculate. I agree with you 100%, but trying to get a wife to not use Max A/C will be a losing battle lol

@@gericomatabang1117 yes. Works!. It came back tho. So here's how to prevent it in the first place. The trick is to not let humidity build up in the vent, which creates mildew. So what I do is, every time I run cold AC during a warm day, I either run regular temp (non circulated) AC on for a few mins before I arrive at my destination or once I park, I roll down the windows slightly (of course in safe areas or your own parking lot) to avoid humidity from building up. Hope it helps.

He Rob I ones had a bad smell in my car I went and buy a new In caven filter. Call the K&N filter. It goes inside the glove compartment.

Yes otherwise the disifemctant will stop at the filter and not go through all vents

@@evinjones2282 Yes I did. I completely forgot I posted this. It was actually dead baby mice that were behind the cabin air filter located behind the glove box. After getting those out and heavily sanitizing the whole space inside there; it fixed the problem. Hopefully you don't have the same problem I had but it is definitely worth a check.

I’ve found that Massengill works best.

You might have some rodents leaving in your vent lines..took my 2018 tacoma to the dealer and they found that my cabin filter was chewed up and left some poop there..it’s a common problem dealership told me..they replace my cabin filter and disinfect my vent lines..they have a solution for it which they have to put some wires throughout your vent lines but cost about $550

that is really pricey. We have critters in socal but the filter wasn't pooped on. it was very dirty though so I changed it. video on the way of course. i know they eat the wires too and make some big bills for some people. thanks for the info.

This method only works temporarily. You’re going to need to get evaporator cleaned up

It didn't for 2 years but I usually run the vents with AC off before reaching my destination but I ran defroster a lot due to the colder temps we've been having. I think they have a TSB on it but I couldn't locate it.

A week after trying this in my 2019 Tahoe, my AC system failed. I really didn't have that crazy of a smell, it was faint, so I tried this...I wish I would have just replaced the filter with one that is scented. $1,300 bucks later...smh

You might want to emphasize that you shouldn't sit inside the vehicle while you're doing this. I realize you didn't, but the video editing makes it seem like you did just that.

Bad idea...Lysol is flammable.....your AC system has a fan motor that is more than likely mounted in the air stream that you are spraying that in.....
