I escaped having to do shoulder surgery 2 months ago, as I kept doing my external rotations and other exercises for almost 8 months. I was about to give up, when it finally worked (4weeks before surgery). I am now doing strength training again, and I will agree with step #3 (I haven't tried #1 or #2), that correcting the form for each exercise and keeping the arms closer to the body through the range of motion prevents unnecessary injury.

Always great content. PT’s have you start with the bands by your side cause it puts the shoulder in a position where there is no impingement or if someone had a labrum tear it’s the best spot to be in. These movements are great for those who need more progression. Not saying it bad or your video is bad cause I think it’s great. Just throwing some background info out there for those who don’t know

Missed the most important. Lying face down on an incline bench. Shoulder blades trying to squeeze together. Neck in neutral position. Raising light dumbells up till your elbows are beside your ears. (Superman flying position). Keep initiating scapula squeeze. (Shoulder blades together). Dumbbell Shoulder rotations are rubbish. Face pulls are number 2!!!!

I stopped doing cable external rotation after about a year of training it, and moved to the elbow on knee version after seeing Knees Over Toes Guy talking about it. Face pulls have been a bit weird for me, never felt good on my left shoulder which is the problem for me which started on this journey (yes I've been to physio. Whatever dysfunction/impingement is there hasn't been cured...). KOTG said 10% of bodyweight is good to aim for. I'm stoked to kinda be there using 7kg dumbbells, 4x12. Almost ready to move up to 8kg. I do have really under developed traps. My lower traps are more defined since doing Y holds. Now I've discovered prone reverse holds and I can't wait to develop more mid back (yes I train back, lats take over I guess).

There is a reason we tell people to do external rotation with the arm in a non elevated way. exercise nr1 increases the chance of impingement issues and/or irritation of the bursa because elevating your arm, weather it's forward or sideways will thighten the structures within the subacromial space.

I've done lots of shoulder work with bands. As an avid snowboarder, I've torn both cuffs over the years - not bad enough for surgery but definitely bad enough to end a season and not have arm mobility for weeks. I love working out the pain though. Hurts like hell to exercise it but over time, got LOTS better. I'm going to put these exercises in my routine. Thanks!

This are really good shoulder strengthening exercices, but only the first exercice keeps shoulder impimgement to the minimum. Doing any of your recommended exercices with an active lesion will most likely worsen the lesion (of course we are talking about most common cause of shoulder pain here, depending on cause everything can canche). Once recovered, as I said, really good exercices, but this might worsen some people injuries.

Just try lifting your arm over head with your ribcage or chest tilted downward (like the phone in had position) Then, lift your sternum (chest up/out) arch mid back "Backwards" now try to put arm over head. Should see what I mean
