How to fix seatbelt - Car accident
Here's how to fix a seatbelt that is stuck and no longer retracting after an auto accident. I will show you how I was able to get my seatbelt to properly work. I was unable to fasten myself safely in my car after being t-boned by a hit and run driver. This video will show you how I fixed my broken seatbelt easily.

I'm not sure if you know this, but the reason seatbelts lock up like this is, inside of that seatbelt mechanism there is something called a pretensioner, very similar to the tensioner that you were messing with. The pretensioner is a one use device (like an airbag) that pulls the seatbelt TIGHT against your body once the cars computer system detects an accident. Sometimes the airbags go off with the pretensioner if the crash is bad enough, if the computer thinks the seatbelt is all that's needed, it will only fire the pretensioner. Remember, this is not what you feel when you brake hard, that is the tensioner. Once this pretensioner goes off, you will not be able to retract your seatbelt so whoever is repairing the car knows they need to replace the seat belt assembly. If you still have the car, go to the junkyard and get a belt out of a car that isn't damaged, because even though your tensioner still works, your pretensioner has already been used up. You never know when you'll need that pretensioner. It is designed to keep the forces down on your body in severe collisions by pulling you as tight as it can into the seat before the real forces from the crash kick in (that's why it's called a pretensioner), the regular tensioner doesn't react until the forces are strong enough to lock it up which is sometimes too late for the human body. I hope you end up replacing the whole assembly 😊😊 This is a video on how pretensioners work (all modern cars have them, not just Toyota who makes the video): kzread.info/dash/bejne/Yp6lsbF_o5yTZ9I.html

My (No accident History ever) Honda E 2004 seatbelt had been acting up for some time and would not spool out unless you played with it, and did small moves in-and-out (haha). But then it locked up! Went through several videos, but yours went straight to the point, easy to follow and fixed it like a charm. The olny bummer was when you were shooting putting it back together and your camera was out of focus, but I worked with it and ALL OK! Thanks much!

Mine is a 09 Civic coupe, seem a little different, it has some loose metal balls inside rolling around. I opened every screws all the way, only manage to make belt held longer out, but it won't retract. btw, I remove all 4 metal balls and threw it away.

My 2012 civic was involved in a small accident and the seat belt deployed and locked also lighting up the airbag light on the dash. To fix this issue 2 necessary steps are needed, 1st either replace your seatbelt with a good working one or send it to safety restraints company that rebuilds them they have to be charged with gas so that they can deploy the next time you're involved in an accident , step 2 you have to reach to your SRS module which is buried below the dash infront of the transmission lever onto the lower body panel and send it along with the seatbelt to the safety restraints they are the ones who can clear the crash data from the module then once this is done the airbag light will turn off, this is the correct way to do it. Nice video content but I also noticed your driver seat airbag is deployed what did u do about this ? This also has to be replaced for maximum safety alotherwise your airbag light will stay ON.

Excellent information and observation, I intend to replace the seat entirely.
