How to fix potholes in a stone parking lot

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Chris shows us how he turns a driveway filled with potholes into a smooth surface for the upcoming car show. He uses his Kubtoa LX2610 with a LandPride GS1572 to loosen and grade the compacted stones.

Nice video. I use a heavy rake to rip my road up a few inches especially around dips and pot holes and then use a box blade down into the exposed gravel to level the road out. It’s worked well in the past as long as I don’t pull too much aggregate on the first pass. I like your idea of using the grader instead of a box blade for leveling the road. I may get one. That said, Using the rippers can be tricky since you can easily dip too low and pull too much gravel and soil up if you have some short swales or sharp turns. The heavy rake prevents me from doing that. I can also go fast without too much worry and always run back and forth several times.

I fixed countless potholes, well, I'm lying, I just end up moving then around the roadway.

He did a good job, but he lacks understanding about the drainage aspect and how potholes form. Love his term "grass creep" i'm going to use that from now on.

Great maintainer for the farm or large personal driveway. If you're doing this everyday or as a small business a harley rake will produce a nicer finish.

Have you run a harley rake in stones before? that's not how we would typically see it used.

@@MessicksEquip It definitely doesn't sound conventional and isn't ideal for the operator, but it's certainly a superior option to a grading box for addressing grass creep and potholes. Grading box is better for adding or overlaying.

After doing this for more than 30 year's, the right way and permanent way. Would be to get all the gravel up and lay down a filter fabric and relay the stone. Yep it's expensive, but it's a permanent fix. That'll never have to be maintained or top dressed with gravel, ever again. That's how highway construction is built. Filter fabric, stone, then asphalt.

Have you done this on a very steep gravel driveway? I can't keep gravel on the steepest part of mine.

Where is the back blade, or was it not necessary for this operation? The reason I ask is I just ordered the same box blade. If it doesn't come with the rear blade I need to cancel.

No offense but I put absolutely Zero-faith in drainage through your stones. Ideally you want a 4% crown or you asphalt it for a 2% crown. Or you 6-8 inch pipe subsurface the water with riser-inlets b/c French-drians always fail. You'd want risers every 40ft of the areas you want drained with as close to a 4% crown as possible.

4% slope same as 4 degrees slope?

@@lcee6592 Crown & slope are the same but degrees is a different form of measurement. You can convert them to match, like 4% slope is less than 3-degrees. It's just easier to use slope because you're using rise over run, or rise/run, or 4% = 25 inches over & one inch up.

Filter fabric base, it'll drain just fine. No crowning needed.
