How to fix Microsoft Wireless Mouse 1000 scroll wheel jumps
Ғылым және технология
Short video guide of how to fix Microsoft Mouse scroll jumps.
You'll need:
- Phillips screwdriver
- Isopropyl or ethanol concentrated alcohol
- Cotton swab
- Small pliers (optional)
Steps:
1. Disassemble the mouse. Look for hidden screws if it doesn't open.
2. Apply alcohol to the scroll wheel contacts. Visible amount of alcohol should soak inside.
3. Scroll for a while in both directions.
4. (Optional) Tighten wheel contact plate enclosure for stable electric contact.
5. Let it dry for enough time. Wet wheel contacts wouldn't work. You can use hair dryer but only in cool air setting or the plastic may melt.
6. Assemble mouse back in the same order. Check for polarity on battery module (+ is red).
7. Done!

I came here by mistake. Stayed to watch the cat and listen to the music.
6 years later your video stands the test of time. I had the same problem and now its fixed! Thanks!!
I have had trouble with this mouse for years with it jumping up when scrolling down and just came across this video, absolutely amazed how quick and simple this was to fix, mouse is like new again!! Thank you.
Mucked about with software settings and drivers for ages before trying this. Mouse now fixed! Brilliant.
Valuable and timely advice from experienced mouse expert helped greatly to get work done. ;)
I put up with a jumpy mouse for years. Not any more. Thanks so much for taking the time to post this. To help out folks, such as myself. I really appreciate it. :-)
I had the same problem and was just about ready to replace it.... then stumbled across this video.....!!! It works again! Congrats man....
Best tutorial ever!, i tightened it twice but later realized that the the wheel bacame hard to scroll, so i grabbed a piece of metal and tried to undo a bit the tightening, now it works like new, thnxxx
Great work man! I even didn't see any dust or anything else when I cleaned it, so I got worried but after I assembled it back, it worked at the first time! Thank you very much!
Well done. Great quick video. The cat side kick a bonus
Very good video. Nicely done . Crisp and to the point.
I love the way your cat watching you curiously and calmly.
This helped me fix 3 mice here today at work. Thanks!
It worked just fine! Thanks a lot! And nice cat, by the way.
Worked as a charm, much better mouse now, thanks!
Mouse started giving me super annoying scrolling problems after only ONE MONTH. But hey, this video fixed it! Six years later and this is still paying off. Now THAT is a service to the world!
Hello from Brazil, this video was the definitive solution for me. Thanks a lot
upon taking mine apart, the issue was the rubber wheel was rotating around the plastic center - so am adding glue there after washing those parts. Great vid - thanks!
Thank you man! Had the same issue and took less than 10 minutes to get it fixed.
Thanks for helping me find those hidden screws! And also for fixing my scroll wheel.
Thanks for this video. I felt appropriately nerdy actually fixing my own mouse today!
Thanks, exactly what I needed to get my scroll wheel working again. This did the trick!
Nearly ordered a new mouse...but this along with gluing the rubber scroll 'tyre' to its 'rim' as it was slipping, did the trick, thank you! Saving money and the environment 👍☺️
This video helped me finally find the screws and open it!, i managed to make it work again (just needed cleaning inside from dust on click points), thank you so much!
You saved my mouse's life. Thank you a lot!
Thank you so much. Totally fixed the jumpy scrolling problem. Most appreciated.
The scroll works perfectly now !! Thanks a lot for the video
Thanks for this vid. For me it's the "Tighten this thing" that solved my problem. Now I can scroll like a champ again
In addition to cleaning, I also removed the *white rubber wheel* and placed *two turns of duct tape* underneath. The first one facing down, the second one inverted, both glued to each other, so that it won't spin around it's base without sticking. . This resulted in a much, much more reliable scrolling experience. Thanks for the instructions.
Thankyou very much for the guide. my mouse is fixed!!! the axis of the rolling wheel was broken, I opened up the mouse case as instructed by this guide and AAglue the axis back in place. now my mouse is up and running again. Thanks a lot!
Thanks! Great tip. Had the same issue here, and now it's working perfectly!
Thanks man you saved me a lot of time! Didn't need any tightening, just used wet (ethanol) wipes and compressed air. Nice cat! :3
Thanks, man! Worked like a charm! BTW, love your cat!
Wow! It sure does work man, was frustrated with the scroll jumping. Thanks for the video..
Tried this witha tiny amount of Handy Andy and a paper serviette. Mouse now works much better. Thank you.
I'm Brazilian, your video helped me a lot! Tank you very much!!!
The hidden screws solved it for me. The problem with the mouse was the rubber tyre was slipping on its axle and it wouldn't scroll single clicks. I managed to get the wheel out without disassembling anything else. I took the tyre off and refitted it with some glue. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you! Second time your video saves my mouse.
Thank you for this, mine works like a charm again!
thanks!! i fix my mouse finally!! my wheel was broken but looking at your tutorial i was able tu glue it and fix it! thanks!
Thanks! This video helped me quite a lot to fix the mousewheel scroll bug..
Thank you very much!! I was suffering some months with this mouse.
Super helpful, thanks 🌸
Thank yu for the post! Helped me a lot!
Thanks for sharing! I was planning to buy new one but after I watched this! Gotcha! It works!
I had fix my mouse by this video. Thanks a lot friend.
That fixed my problem. The scrolling was going back and forward. I assembled it after just 20 minutes and it didn't work at all (I didn't know it was probably still wet). I let it there for about an hour and then did another test. It now works perfect.
i have the same mouse with the same problem, now works perfectly. Thanks a lot
This worked like a charm for me! Thank you so much! :')
very usefull video. I also disassembled the scroll sensor to clean and put one more battery in the mouse, now it last for a year.
I search how to open and know i have fixed my wheel! Thanks for the vid!
Such a well behaved cat, and so attentive. I couldn't see how to pull it apart and nearly did some damage before finding this. After cleaning the mechanism with isopropyl I found my issue was slightly different. The rubber tyre was sliding freely over the hub. The wheel came out quite easily without removing the circuit board. I used a bit of contact adhesive inside the tyre to stop it sliding.
Very helpful! I fixed my jerky Microsoft Mouse 3500. Thanks a lot!
I was about to purchase a new mouse. Tried this just now. And it is working fine. Thanks a lot. Keep it up. (Y)
Great video it helped fix a MS Wireless 1000 mouse! But I noticed that the white rubber was sliding on the plastic wheel. I removed the white rubber and used a small rubberband on the plastic wheel then reinstall white rubber. Now it works great!
Thank you so much for share this, i was able to repair 3 mouses with scrolling issues :D
thankyou soo so much, I was going crazy with the constant jumping :)
Guess it works better when a cat is watching.

Diego Fontenele Great!
Thanks a lot man!!..you save me from throw my budget logitech b170!!...i’ve only used make up remover liquid just to clean up the dust around the wheel..thanks again..it works!!
Great video man! Thanks a lot!!! It worked!
cat : i thought you said mouse ...like reeeeeal mouse
Upon watching this video, here is what I did, i turned the mouse off and scrolled up and down very quickly for a few minutes. the idea is, if there is any debris on the wheel or contact points, it will fall off or just magically disappear :) this method worked for me, at least for now. By the way, the video is 8 years old, I wouldnt have guessed that its been that long. As far as I remember I'm on my third MS keyboard-mouse set. With the previous sets, it was the dongles that failed, MS dongles are big and not very mechanically sturdy. My other sets are Logitech with smaller dongles. Smaller dongles are more practical for laptops.

Trust me, this method won't last long. I've been doing this for a couple of years, every action lasts for a couple of days. And here the dusting of the problem itself is at the root.

Just did that and the wheel works fine for now. Let's see how long this solution will last
worked on my 'Genius' scroll mouse also, 2 of them. Thanks for posting:-)
Thanks, for the instructions on how to clean and fix this mouse.
This really helped, turns out the red wire was not slotted in with the duel metal connector. This helped especially for the back grip peel - off, because beforehand I didn't want to break it even more!
Thanks a lot, worked perfectly for me. If you consider the video to be too fast, use KZreads settings to play at 0.5 speed or so...
I don't know if it works yet, but the video is awesome. ... and the cat!
Worked perfect!!! Thanks.
I've used a bit of electronic contact cleaner... Same effect... Thanks for the video!
Thanks. Will have to watch it a few more time as I can't keep my eyes on what you are doing for watching the cat!

You can reduce the speed of the video in the settings, i did it (from 1 to 0,25). Now i can clean my mouse:-)
Huge help. Thanks for sharing!!
Thanks a lot!!! It worked perfectly. MS products are so different from those from Apple. I tried to fix a magic mouse...they make things to be thrown away, everything glued. It was so easy to handle this mouse and have it working perfectly again :-) So happy to have my scroll wheel back!
Worked perfectly! Thanks!
Yay! It worked! Thank you so much!

Thanks for share this tutorial, dude. I was having a similar problem with this mouse model, but the issue was with the rubber part of the scroll that was loose from the plastic wheel and when I was rolling it wasnt wheeling the sensor.
