AMAZING INFO!!!!.... THIS VIDEO SAVED MY ENGINE! I had the same ticking after changing the oil on my MB S500 , using a FRAM FILTER, not the MB one! I went back in the garage, changed the new filter with the old original one and no more knocking.....I was starting to get mad about it!...THIS info literally saved my engine!..THANK YOU SO MUCH! Need to buy the MB new filter now!

Hi, great video man. I’m looking to see what is the cause of some weird sound. I think it’s from the engine but I’m not sure. I have a 08gl450. It only makes the sound at high revolutions. I have no loss of power or anything. Also when this started happening the check engine came On for p0420 and p0430. Do you think this could have happened to my engine? And if it did, is it okay to just keep on driving? I can still go on the freeway and get up to80+mph. I just can’t rev it really hard. Please let me know your thoughts. Thanks a lot! 2014 gl550 owner here.... car is smoking a good bit(oil smell) and seems to be misfiring. Just had a injector bored out and replaced and the shop says it's going to smoke and needs to be driven but the oil spot in my driveway( baseball size) and my knowledge of cars says different I think the turbo or seals for turbo are bad on driver side turbo. Any ideas ?

How did you manage to pinpoint the noise to a filter ?

We use liquimoly at the shop, it’s a German company, they make great lubes.

I use Ardeca-Lubricants, It's a Belgium company. Stick with 0w-40 or 5w-40 do not put the 0w-30 or even 5w-30. I learned it the hard way. The 30 is to thin. Liqui Moly is a good brand oil. I know allot of BMW owners uses Liqui Moly. I'm very happy with Ardeca and I have been using them for over 15 years in all my vehicles.

What filter is this? An engine filter?

Fair price for a engine swap and rebuild for mb

Did you need to do all this. What would be the outcome of continuing to drive it like this? How much longer could you drive it.

It won’t pass emission.

The headline of the video says knocking and you keep talking about ticking so what is it knocking or ticking?

Any suggestions for servicing a Crossfire? It's a Mercedes engine that Mercedes won't touch and produced by Chrysler but their techs won't touch it either. I got an oil change at a shop that apparently services Mercedes, BMW etc and now have a ticking in my engine. Oil is full, ticking is getting louder.

I never worked on CrossFire but I heard it’s the same MB engine, find out where the ticking is coming from and fix it before you’ll have to put a new engine in…

You don't necessarily have to use OEM parts always match it up and make sure it looks like the oem part who was that stupid that filter doesn't even match the OEM part

I have this problem now darn 6 grand to fix

the R 172 V8 is a trouble-free engine, I got 117 000 km on, nothing wrong. full Mercedes history. even the top pully noise is not to worry. it is normal wear and tear. the top pully will never pack up. also, the balancing shaft sprocket is not a problem. the 350 v6 is a huge problem on the balancing shaft sprocket. i did find that the exhaust flaps can be a problem. take out the accumulators, open the accumulators and see the spring inside, nip the spring with pliers so that it fits tight on top of the flap side top, it can slip out if not tight. my problem solved.

pay right once or pay big time !

ticking noise: I thought the direct fuel injectors were macking all that ticking noise. There is a TSB regarding the missing timing chain tensioner oil return check valve... who needs oil pressure in tensioners ????

That’s crazy . I know this engine well enough to know the oil filter. I wonder who put the wrong oil filter in there in the first place? Fcp euro for the win

I have a 2014 cls 550 and even Mercedes after giving them the vin they couldn't tell me which one to use. I'm getting a metallic chatter for 3 seconds upon start up (not everytime) and then it disappears. The car has 25k original miles and the dealer I bought it from changed the oil but who knows what filter is in it. Can you tell me which filter I need and it's part #?

@@MercedesBenzTechs I changed the oil today I just bought the car as I said previously. The dealer I bought it from changed it. It was crap oil. I put mostly 15w50 and half 5w40 diesel Valvoline premium blue in it. No sound since on four start ups. Think it was terrible oil IMO. But I ordered the check valves and tensioners today from MB of Austin

@@MercedesBenzTechs I don't believe in 0w40 at all. It's Texas and it's hot. 120 degrees on roads. I usually run 5w50 in all my cars or 5w40 diesel oils. I think the diesel oils are such a hidden secret for turbo applications and heat and pressure protections

@@scottp6761 if it’s only on cold start, then it’s the camshaft sprockets, there is a little pin inside that wears out and until oil build pressure internally it rattles

Marc McKenna it’s 276 from 2012 Mercedes changed the engines, instead of 272 and 273 there are 276 and 278.

So not a different brand oilfilter but a totaly wrong type oilfilter caused this?

I am not agree that only oil filter can cost engine ticking in the Mercedes mostly is gasoline people put cheap regular gas and this is the wrong ,Should be 91 octane gasoline

The engine oil filter need to restrict the amount of oil that travel from The oil filter housing and allowing to build pressure to let the oil travel up to the camshaft and the bottom of the pistons, if you don’t put the right oil filter or don’t put oil filter at all you’re not allowing the pump to build oil pressure

No really. You can do your own maintenance if you know a little bit about cars but, always recommend to use original Mercedes Benz parts. You still saving money if you go to the dealer and purchase the original parts design for your vehicle, with the only difference that you not paying to the dealer to do the service for you., that can go very expensive depending on the work they performing in your vehicle. I live in New York State and this clowns charge $165 bucks per hour and most of the time the service fee is more expensive than the parts itself, that’s why I do most of the work on my C300.

If youve got some metric tools, space.and time to do it yourself its not impossible to do most stuff yourself... especially if the value of the car is under $20k. The problem is most people who can afford newer Mercedes are too busy working to even change their own windshield wipers! Lol 😆
