How to fix loose Kitchen Faucet. DIY.

No.139 My Moen kitchen faucet was loose and annoying the heck out of me. Maybe it was overworked and loosened the nut under the sink.

I had a loose kitchen faucet and thought I had to use an Allen wrench on the back of the faucet. After 30 minutes of getting nowhere, I watched your video and was able to fix it in 5 minutes. Thank you!

Thanks man! I was overthinking this and had a loose base for months , didn't feel like calling my apartments maintenance guy since I was unsure how long it'd take to fix and I hate having strangers in my place. On a whim looked up loose faucet base and low and behold 1 video and 30 seconds later problem fixed! Thanks man

Jonah - this video was SO helpful. I needed to fix a loose KWC (high end Swiss faucet installed by previous condo unit owner). The sink and faucet designs are a bit different from your video, but the essential layouts were similar enough that your video helped me tighten the KWC version of the main nut. Again layout was different, but I learned enough from your video to be creative. Thanks again. Great service that you are providing! I left a thumbs-up. BTW -I tried a basin wrench, and there was no room for it. My other wrenches were worthless too. I was able to do a good hand-tightening that was enough. You are a 😇!

Worse faucet I've ever owned! I'm on my second one but I should have learned the first time. Thought I got a defective one but found out it's the design that's defective. I'm under my sink at least once a month tightening the nut which isn't easy. I'm pretty small and it's very uncomfortable to do.Thanks for showing me I'm not alone. Good as far as it goes, but recommended: (a) never use an adjustable wrench (e.g., "monkey wrench") to tighten a nut. Acquire a wrench the exact size of the nut you're tightening; and (b) use Loctite 272 to coat the part of the thread the nut will be over when tightened, then tighten the nut. As it is done here, the nut is not completely tight and it will loosen again very soon, due to the forces applied to the assembly when the faucet is moved left-to-right and the reverse.

As you're tightening the nut, is the washer against the plywood? Because mine is exactly as yours in this video, and every time I go in to tighten the nut, the washer rotates with it. I think i need a plate between the washer and the plywood for the washer to grip so I can tighten the faucet. Its a big headache. Every time I use the faucet, it loosens. Should I buy a new faucet. I paid close to $1000 for this. I'm never buying anything expensive again.

The gold piece that is at the top connecting to the faucet completely fell out of the faucet and is hanging at the bottom. I try to screw it back into the faucet so then I can follow your directions but I can’t get it to stay. The gold piece looks fine, so I am not sure why it won’t stay or how to best screw it into the faucet. Any suggestions?

You installed the faucet incorrectly in the first place. You are supposed to caulk around all the points where the water can get in (the three holes under the faucet). Water in getting in those holes and rotting out your fiberboard counter top. That is why the nut is loose.

I don’t have 3 holes, my countertop is granite so it’s got nothing to do with caulking holes under plate; it is, as Jonah states a deign flaw. Moen no longer makes this faucet.

If it’s this faucet by Moen there’s a Quick Connection on the water supply line. You disconnect that and remove the weight. Then you can turn that bolt right out.
