Frank, Thanks very much. My l2500DT had no 4 wheel drive today when I went to pull some cut up trees. I had no clue why it would quit. My first thought was that it would probably have to go to the dealers and I would be looking at big bucks. I'll ck it out. Again. You give some hope.

The coupling there seems to have been made using sintered (powdered) metal and likely not heat treated, I wonder if it was designed to be the failure point in the front drive train? What else is there that would break/fail first? It's probably not worth the time to machine a replacement piece out of solid steel and then heat treat it. Any thoughts?

I think it could be like a safety fuse, would not want to make something else break. The couplers are around $25.

You should put grease on the splines. If not the splines will fret and fail. Or go they get oil to them?
