It is the 4th day and it is still cloudy.. i am waiting to see if the water will get clear and it does not. Because i need to add my fishes in it soon. what should i do?

Thank you for another super helpful video. You make things so clear and easy to understand! I just went through a situation where I had a bacterial bloom in my cichlid aquarium. I suspected, and your video helped me confirm, that the issue was caused by excess food. It wasn't as much a question of over-feeding as it was feeding them the wrong food. The day I bought my cichlids, the salesperson recommended this jar of pellet food (labelled for cichlids) that he said was what they fed these fish every day. So I bought it and put some in the tank and it just sat there. They never touched it at all. So I promptly went out and bought some other food. The problem is that I should have vacuumed the substrate and removed the excess food as soon as I realized the fish didn't like it. I tried cleaning my filters (which were already clean). That may have made things worse. I tried a couple of water changes. I used Prime to dechlorinate my tapster and to detoxify my tank water; (thank you for your clear explanation of what Prime does too!). Finally, (last night), did another water change, added another filter, additional filter media, vacuumed the substrate, and this morning it looks like it is starting to clear up. A little. I'm hoping that it will continue to improve. Thank you again. Your videos are awesome. By the way, I subscribed to your channel and clicked the notification bell.

Only wash sponges in tank water and biological media same. Dont use tap water or clean them spotless. Sponges and biological media need to stay wet at all times to keep bacteria alive.

Fist time having an aquarium. I bought a 10 gallon, cleaned rocks, substrate and fill it water. There was still a little bit of dust but after a couple of water changes my water was good. I did put some wood in there and my water had a yellow taint in it but was told that it can happen because of the tannin in the wood. I did put the wood in boiling water so what i had in my fish tank was not much compared to what was in the boiling water. Started the filters (one back and one small sponge filter) and added the recommended amount of 'stability' from Seachem to help starting the cycling. Since they feed on amonia and i had no fish, i took an uncooked shrimp and placed it in my fish tank (saw that somewhere and the person at the fish store confirmed that some people do that). Next morning go to work and open the fish tank light. All looked good. Coming home from work, i saw a snow storm in my fish tank. After testing the water, i found almost nothing in the water (amonia and company). From what i have found, i had a bacterial bloom in my fish tank but since i saw nothing in the water, i found that suspicious. The only explanation i found is that some battery in the tap water just bloomed like crazy. That was yesterday. Today, it's a little bit less cloudy and was able to see that i had amonia, a little bit of nitrite and no nitrate. With that long story over, i have two questions. Did anyone heard the same kind of story about bacteria from tap water? As per the video, the good bacteria will eventually grow so much that it will just make the other one disappear. And second, is it possible that the light may have played a role in that bacterial bloom?

I'd handle bacteria caused cloudy water a bit differently. 1) Locate the source of pollution and remove, if possible, and vacuum gravel while (or in addition to) doing a 33% - 50% water change depending on how bad the situation is. Make sure to match temperatures and use dechlorinator. 2) Change the mechanical filtration media in the filter such as polyester fiber or pads (as that will be trapping a large portion of the unprocessed physical pollution) and rinse off the media doing the biological processing (ceramic rings, balls, etc.) in unchlorinated water and restart the filter. 3) Then I would employ the resins you mentioned and/or Poly Filter (Poly-Bio Marine) or activated carbon, and packaged beneficial bacteria to re-innoculate the tank and filter. 4) I'd continue 20% water changes for three more days, again with dechlorinating chemicals and temperature matching. In severe circumstances the water changes mentioned above would not be too extreme. I once found a tank bottom covered in fungus with the fishes literally taking their last breath. When I finished yelling at the tank owner, I put the fish in a clean bucket with 100% tap water and dechlorinator and completely broke down the tank, washing the gravel several times, and doing a complete filter media change. Dechlorinator, temperature matching, and a Poly Filter saved the day. When the owner became defensive and illogical a few days later, I simply removed both tank and fish from their house. In some quarters that might be called stealing, but I felt justifiably righteous. Ahmen! The fish (all survived) are still sending me thank you cards on my birthday.

THIS IS A GREAT STORY! It's a hard decision to take while confronted to animal cruelty. You did the right thing. I hope you charged him for your time 😂 In extreme cases like this, tap water with dechlorinator was the only good option. That fish tank must have been rancid! Poor fishies. I've seen this happen to some people who over feed their tanks. It's hard to come back from that.

I use seachem prime and stability. I regularly rescape my mbuna tank, a little too much since its only 3 months I dived into it. I kick up a lot of dust but the fx6 eheim 2213 are very effective on 75 gallons but I think ultimately it's the two wavemakers that really speeds it up. It can clear with a mid to heavy cloudiness within 20 minutes

Hi Michelle. Love your channel and am a subscriber to it too. Very informative and very sound advice. Added Seachem Prime and did a water change about 80%. Added Seachem Prime again, topped the tank, added Seachem Stability to it . I have noticed that my water in my last water changed does not clear up. Let me confess that my Biomedia is not too great but will shortly change it to proper medium and I do not have chemical media like Seachem Purigen. Am just waiting to revive all my bio and chemical media to do the change in my external filter by the end of this month. In the mean time if I put Seachem Clarity will it help or just wait and reinstall the bio and chemical media by the end of this month? What do you advice?

I don't think clarity will help. The new biomedia will :) In the mean time, try adding some Microbelift Special Blend to help your bacteria out

I have cloudy water now in my new 50 gal aquarium. Done water changes. Changed filter cartridges. Wondering if the water intake tube is clogged. I DID add some new gravel to old gravel on tank so maybe new gravel exuding some grayish material.. I washed gravel first.

Hi im using silica sand for my salt water aquarium without washing it first because the ad said you dont have to. However when i fill it with salt water its become so cloudly and i keep filling it because i trust my filter can handle it. But its already 3 days and the water still not crystal clear... so i add an aerator thinking it might be a bacteria blooming but the water still not clear... do u think i have to add prime or WC?

you can depending what water parameters you want to achieve.Africans no as they prefer hard alkaline water, south Americans yes as they generally prefer softer more acidic water

So I have a 55 gallon tank that I’ve had runing for a year now and i did a 50% water change because the tank was full of algae and I decided to mix the gravel up with my hands to move it around and then the water became cloudy. It’s been 3 days now and it’s still cloudy when I look through the side of the tank and I added a canister filter because I just got one, what should I do exactly?

If it's cloudy because of the substrate, don't worry, it will go away :) You can make a big water change but waiting also works. The excess will be picked up by your filter.

I don't know if anyone has an answer to this question, but I was curious about using API pond accu-clear in an aquarium. Since the normal dosage is 0.25 cup per 600 gallons, the dosage per 1 gallon would be 2 drops.... the question is, is this product safe to use in an aquarium setting? It's safe for fish, obviously for ponds, so would it work for a goldfish in a 40 gallon? Thanks

I have an established tank. All of my water parameters are where they should be, but the water is hazy. It is a white haze. It started after I'd added some Chemi Pure to my tank. It took me a while to realize that the Chemi-Pure was the only thing "new" to my tank. So, I took that out of my sump (by the way...I have a sump and canister filter on a 220gallon cichlid tank). I've done water changes, but they really don't seem to help with the water clarity. Someone suggested adding Pristine and Prime to my tank...neither of those helped. This has been going on since the end of December. My fish seem fine and are acting normally. Any advice here?

Hello!! I got glofish about 6 months ago and have struggled with white cloudy water since I put the fish in the tank! This video has helped some.. but everyone is telling me different things. I do use prime and chlorinate when I do water changes every month. But what I got from this video is that I need to use the prime everyday for a week to help clear it up?

Prime detoxifies ammonia and nitrite. If you have these in your tank, use prime daily until they are cleared up by your filter.

Hi Aamir, 80% water change is very big. If you don't put enough dechlorifier, the chlorine from the water might be destroying your cycle. This video might help : kzread.info/dash/bejne/e4Wjw8StZdG5mrA.html
